The 2028 Republican Party presidential primaries will be held to select delegates to the 2028 Republican National Convention to determine the Republican Party's nominee in the 2028 United States presidential election. These primaries will be the first since 2012 in which President-elect Donald Trump will not stand as a candidate, as he is ineligible to be elected to a third term due to the term limits established by the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution.[1]

[edit]As of November 2024[update], the following individuals have been subjects of speculation about their potential candidacy within the previous six months.
- Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida (2019–present), candidate for president in 2024, former United States Representative for Florida's 6th congressional district (2013–2018)[2][3]
- Nikki Haley, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations (2017–2018), former Governor of South Carolina (2011–2017), former State Representative (2005–2011), candidate for president of the United States in 2024[2][3]
- Brian Kemp, Governor of Georgia (2019–present), former Secretary of State of Georgia (2010–2018), State Senator (2003–2007)[2][3]
- Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Governor of Arkansas (2023–present), former White House Press Secretary (2017–2019), daughter of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee[2][3]
- JD Vance, Vice President-elect of the United States, United States Senator from Ohio (2023–present)[4][3]

National convention
[edit]In August 2023, Politico reported that the Republican National Committee would host its 2028 convention in Houston, Texas—a Democratic city.[5]
