The 2024 Baramulla Attack was a militant assault carried out by members of the People's Anti-Fascist Front in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, on the night of 24 October 2024. The attackers targeted an Indian Army convoy in the Boota Pathri area near the Line of Control. During the initial attack, a civilian porter was killed, and four soldiers were injured.[3]
The militants opened fire on the military vehicle, leading to a brief but intense firefight between Indian Army personnel and the militants. The attack resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two porters. Additional forces were deployed to the area, and a large-scale combing and search operation was launched along the LoC to neutralize the attackers.[1][2][4]
In response to the attack, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Northern Command (India), Lieutenant General M. V. Suchindra Kumar, held a media briefing on 25 October 2024, where he confirmed that the Army was reassessing its strategies. He suggested that the attackers likely received cross-border support from Pakistan, and emphasized that the Army was adapting to the evolving challenges and the tactics used by the militants.[5]
The attack in Baramulla was part of a series of militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir during October 2024. Earlier in the week, on 20 October, a doctor and six construction workers were killed in a terrorist attack on a tunnel construction site in the Ganderbal.[6] Additionally, on 24 October, a blast inside court premises in Baramulla injured one person, further intensifying the sense of insecurity in the region[7]
