Zella is a ghost town in McMullen County, Texas, United States.[1]

History

[edit]

Zella is situated on Texas State Highway 97. It was named for Zella Bland, daughter of settler Howard Bland. It was settled in 1913 on the route of the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railroad. The company helped construct a hotel, rail depot, a well and other building. They also circulated brochures to get more settlers. A post office operated opened in 1914m and began declining after its closure in 1916. The community served as a shipping point for cattle drovers until 1959. By 1985, only the hotel and some homes stood.[2][3]
