Image Selection

[edit]

Hi all, thank you so much for your work. You shared really great information here. I want to bring your attention to the image. It is misleading to label this fresco as Sappho, since it is actually a fresco found at Pompeii of an educated noble woman. People see a women with tablets and assume she is Sappho, when in reality she is an educated Roman woman interested in literature in her own right. You can read more about this on pages 6-7 of this JSTOR article: [1]. I recommend either changing the description to Woman with Stylus or Pompeian Noblewoman with Stylus, or picking a different image that is more intentional in representing Sappho. Or perhaps picking a different representative woman writer. Thanks! Kounelaki.27 (talk) 16:04, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
