I have tried to synthesize the above discussion, so here it is....

Top-importance

• Square-Enix and all company-related articles
• Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest
• Final Fantasy (video game) and Final Fantasy VII
• Chrono Trigger
• Kingdom Hearts

High-Importance

• All other Final Fantasy titles (I'm on the bubble about where Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy X should go), Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts 2, Xenogears, and whichever Dragon Quest games are the most popular
• All numbered Final Fantasy games, DQ8, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Trigger, important people (Yuuji Hori, Ya-something Matsuda, and the people CSW listed) - The bread and butter games and the people who made them.
• all the actual game articles need to be high importance (if they have sold more than half a million copies). But shouldn't DQI be there as well, as without it there'd be neither Enix nor Square today? Also, what about composers like Koichi Sugiyama who (even though owns his own company) did most of SE music, and had a huge influence over Nobuo Uematsu (and many video game composers afterward)

Mid-Importance

• All Final Fantasy VII characters and Rikku
• All articles on main characters
• Nobuo Uematsu, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Tetsuya Nomura, and Yoshitaka Amano
• FF and DQ spinoff games released in English, the bulk of Chronicle of FF7, the rest of the DW/DQ games, Xenogears, a Grandia series article (do we have one?) sequels to KH and CT, Akira Toryama, notable collaborators with Square-Enix (Brownie Brown, Quest, and Tri-Ace come to mind) - The core games, the rest of the notable people, and the companies S-E have published for.
• Mitsuda

Low-Importance

• All other character articles
• Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda
• Any other games, fictional people/places/things from games that are at least High importance, music composers, soundtrack albums from games that are at least High importance - Pretty much everything else, as long as it's something that has some real-world impact on the English-speaking part of the world.
• Unreleased games, fictional people/places/things from other games, other soundtrack albums - Everything left.
• mid for Spirits Within, low for other movies
• low for FMA movies

Discussion

Well, I think things have changed since this was brought up. First of all, there was a fair bit of merger drama so now we're down quite a few characters (for the better) and we'll be down a few more when things are all completely settled. Anyway, it seems kind of weird to put FFVII above other game articles since it isn't nearly as notable as we make it seem inside our video game bubble. Anyway, suggestions:

• FF1 and DQ1 --> top
• FF series, DQ series and KH series --> top
• Chrono Trigger could probably be bumped down to high
• all numbered FFs and DQs --> high, KH games in high
• hot-shot company producers/execs should be bumped up to top (Uematsu, Sakaguchi, Matsuno, Nomura, Amano, Nojima; some are borderline high instead of top; Uematsu and Sakaguchi are definitely top though)
• Not sure about Xenogears, mid or high, take your pick
• All "Characters of", "World of" and "Music of" articles should be mid
• Gameplay of Final Fantasy (when it starts existing; Final Fantasy battle systems should be merged into that, btw), Monsters/Creatures of Final Fantasy, Common themes of Final Fantasy are mid/high, not sure
• Individual character articles are probably low
• Nobody games and random other stuff go into low also (Square's Tom Sawyer, anyone? Rad Racer? ^_^)

However, I can't get the bot to create the table stuff and stats; it seems we can't rate only by importance, we have to rate by quality too, even though we shouldn't need to since quality ratings are the same for all projects and VGproj already does it for SEproj... I believe, there is one spinoff of Final Fantasy that should be on high importance but is actually labeled as mid-importance: Secret of Mana. At least in Europe there is still a huge fanbase. --Con^structor 15:02, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Currently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.

TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.

Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.

1. Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
2. Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
3. Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
4. Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
5. Write the concept and creation section for the main article

TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.

Dragon Quest articles

It might just be me, but I've noticed that the Dragon Quest articles have been recieving a lot of vandalism lately. I know they typically don't recieve a lot of attention here, but thanks to anyone who has reverted any of it and anyone who does in the future. Oh and I might as well mention that the Dragon Quest article (as well as several other articles) are waiting to be reviewed for good status. WikiProject Dragon Quest

Hi, some of the members here may or may not be aware of this but the VG Project has been trying to consolidate/clean up inactive projects related to video games. See project page and talk page for more info.

Anyway, the next one on the list is Wikipedia:WikiProject Dragon Quest, which has been tagged as inactive for almost a year now. Rather than delete it, we wanted to see what you guys thought about making it a task force under your project. A similar move was done with the inactive Warcraft Project; now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Warcraft.

The aim is to consolidate resources and make it easier for new members to find a niche; having several inactive projects can make this more difficult. The hope is that it can be restarted down the road more easily as a task force rather than a full project. I'll check back to see what you guys think, or post on the project talk page. I've been editing Dragon Quest articles for a while now (I had originally joined the project, but ended up being one of the only ones that was active).Recently, the DQ articles have been recieving more attention, so maybe a taskforce or revival of the project would be a productive thing. Honestly, this project is so quiet that it might be worth it to just kill the DQ project and merge it in here, not even making it a sub-project. This project isn't "dead", per se, it's just that we're all still paying attention to the FF wikiproject, and no one's been working on the Chrono or KH series recently. --PresN (talk) 23:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Disagree. Task forces are set up because there's already a good momentum for editing a particular topic and to organize that momentum. They're not created in the hope of generating more momentum; task forces and wikiprojects which have been set up for that purpose have always failed to get any decent activity. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. I would like a WP-wide standardization of List-Class (just the class itself) and FL to contain lists like List of Square Enix games and to not reasonably contain "lists" like Characters of Kingdom Hearts. Squaresoft Sampler discs / Collector Volumes

Restructuring of the Square Enix article after the Company Split?

I've already posted it on Square Enix's talk page, but I guess I'll ask here too...

Square Enix is going to become a Holding Company. You can go to the last page of the PDF file to see the new company structure. My question is, will this article become something like the Sega Sammy Holdings and Namco Bandai Holdings, where the holding companies are listed by themselves, while their subsidiaries (and brands) have their own articles as part of the Square Enix Holdings main article? --Yottamol (talk) 19:35, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

If anyone wants to help, I'm trying to boost this article in quality. What I could use help with is general copyediting and development - specifically, I need help finding an interview that discusses the future of the series. This interview says that if the title sells well in the US, he may make a sequel that may have online play. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler!
