Revival

[edit]

I understand that NyanThousand is trying to revive this WikiProject. Bearian (talk) 19:01, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, sounds about right! So far we've had a few people showing interest in the project (four, by my count), so not really enough to say revived but I'd say enough to get things started. Right now I'm advertising (mainly reaching out to people who might be interested), while also doing some clean-up (checking tags, mostly, but I think the scope of what counts as history needs to be well-defined first so I stopped short of the obvious historical topics).
So that's the gist! I know it's going to take months at least to really get things up and running but I'm optimistic. NyanThousand (talk) 02:30, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Scope and to-do list

[edit]

So! As part of reviving the TF, I propose we get a discussion going on two things:

  1. Scope of the project. It'd be good for us to have a concrete definition of what constitutes "Philippine history." I was thinking about this when I was looking at PH articles that should be tagged under History. Some things are obvious enough, like historical events, national heroes and so on. But what is a historical figure? What about events that involve the Philippines tangentially (eg. World War II)? Are those within scope? A good two to three sentence definition might be useful.
  2. To-do list. The to-do list in the discussion page is, alright, I guess? But it's pretty vague and I don't think it reflects what actually needs to be done at this point in time for this TF.

That said, I'm proposing the following:

  1. Scope: The scope of Philippine history is any event, place, person, group, or item that has made a notable impact in the course of the economic, political, or cultural development of people living in the Philippines, with a primary focus on their relationship to the Philippines. Specifically:
    1. Notable impact is a nebulous concept that is determined by reliable sources
    2. Historical events are events that took place in the Philippines' historical past, pre-history, or in the present, with a notable impact in Philippine history (i.e. the economic, political, or cultural development of the people living in the Philippines).
    3. Historical figures are people who have made a notable impact on Philippine history. Living persons are not historical regardless of their impact. Likewise, historical places and historical groups fall under the same definition.
    4. Historical items are historical if they are tied to a historical event, place, person, or group.
  2. To-do list: Some things I feel are important are:
    1. Tagging appropriate articles within WP:PINOY as historical
    2. Reviewing old tags to see if articles are within scope
    3. Re-assessing article priorities (after we define what is a Top, High, Medium, and Low priority article)
    4. General article clean-up. I'm thinking we can encourage edit drives through monthly themes (eg. Septmber is for Martial Law related articles) as well as having a general target of zero stubs/FA for all top articles or something

Just some things I've been thinking about for the past few days. What does everybody think? NyanThousand (talk) 03:14, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
