Fixing the October archive

[edit]

@FAC coordinators: The problem in the October archive was raised days ago; who’s fixing this? If none of you want to edit the longest FACs to remove templates, do you want someone else to do it? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:26, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Give me an hour and a half to get off work, and I'll give it a few minutes before I go to premarital counseling. Sandwedge, prison education, and Second Battle of Finnisterre are where I plan to start. Hog Farm Talk 21:40, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you ! I hope you enjoy talking about sex, politics, money and religion in your premaritals :) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:14, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
lots of green in these … Symphyotrichum lateriflorum, The Trundle, Sustainable energy, your Grant’s Canal, Daisy (advertisement) … i stopped there, but maybe Sustainable energy will do the trick. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:18, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So for me right now, having removed tq's from Sandwedge and Finnisterre, it'll load 44, with Schichau as the last one. Post-include expand size for those 44 is 2,093,545 (limit of 2,097,152) El Tatio and I'm Going Down are the ones that aren't loading. Transcluding those two onto User:Hog Farm/transclusion tester shows that we've got slightly over 119,000 bytes in those two. So with less than 4,000 clearance, we'll need to find a bit over 115,000 more bytes to cull. Hog Farm Talk 23:28, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sustainable energy and Daisy (advertisement) might do it … let me know if you want me to help convert tqs to straight quotes … not sure I should wade in to help considering tone elsewhere, but willing to help if I can! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:34, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Removing tq's from Grant's Canal brings it down to 2,089,007. Daisy is next. Hog Farm Talk 23:34, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Removing tq's from Daisy gets us to 2,071,600. So (2,071,600 + 119,097) - 2,097,152 = 93,545. Much work to do, and I've got to stop here for several hours. Hog Farm Talk 23:49, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some more with lots of green, besides Sustainable energy, The Trundle, also Dracophyllum_fiordense, Cyclone Dumazile, London_and_North_Western_Railway_War_Memorial, Dhoby Ghaut MRT station … Sustainable energy still a top target … didn’t follow closely how much sigs contribute, but way-crazy sigs in evidence throughout. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:10, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NOTE: I am having a hard time loading the archive page :). You may need to make a mental note to watch for this same problem every October. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:31, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Had a nice time snaking the drain earlier this evening, too - seems kinda similar in the sense of cleaning stuff out until it runs quicker and gets everything. Hog Farm Talk 05:14, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so I've culled the tq's (not messing with pings for now as I'm afraid of mass-repinging, don't intend to touch any sigs, and I'm assuming the {{tl}} and {{endash}} calls are pretty harmless) from sustainable energy, lateriflorum, the Trundle, and Cyclone Dumazile.

Bizarrely, we are still at 44, but it's not the same 44 - Tatio is showing now, but not Schichau. So using my transclusion tester page, the untranscluded amount drops to 56,380. The 44 still pulling add up to 2,090,642 out of the 2,097,152, so (2,090,642 + 56,380) - 2,097,152 = 49,870. Progress! Hog Farm Talk 05:44, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dhoby Gaut and Frederick the Great got it to 45! The 45 are now at 2,067,799 of 2,097,152. It looks like #46 (I'm Goin' Down) on its own is 31,833. (2,067,799 + 31,833) - 2,097,152 = 2,480. That should be doable. Hog Farm Talk 06:08, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And RESOLVED! The war memorial one was enough to get the 2,480. Everything shows now. Hog Farm Talk 06:15, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well done lad, you had nothing to prove but you've sure done so anyway... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:31, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, HF!! From my iPAd, FAC is now stalling after about 16 (but eventually loads if I keep waiting), while this page is loading, so depending on how many of the current FACs end up in the November archive, we may end up with the same problem there, requiring similar intervention … heads up to watchlist the Nov archive (which I’m sure all of you do :) Sorry about the drain!
