Demolished or Moved Buildings or Structures
[edit]- Swanton Covered Railroad Bridge (Swanton, Vermont) was destroyed by fire in 1987.Mfwills (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- West Milton Bridge (Milton, Vermont) was dismantled in 1994; in 2009 it was reconstructed on the site of the Swanton Covered Railroad Bridge as part of a "RailTrail" recreation path.Mfwills (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- Chittenden County Courthouse (Burlington, Vermont) is now a parking lot. The building was demolished sometime after the adjacent U.S. Post Office and Customshouse was donated to the county and renovated as a county courthouse (1974).Mfwills (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- The Dog Team Tavern in New Haven was destroyed by fire in 2006[1].Mfwills (talk) 12:44, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Property names
[edit]- St. John's Episcopal Church in Highgate Falls is listed as "St. John's Episcopal Churdh" Nyttend (talk) 14:37, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Gratton Congregational Church and Chapel in Grafton, clearly should be "Grafton Congregational Church and Chapel" Nyttend (talk) 19:00, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- St. Pauls's Episcopal Church in Royalton: should be St. Paul's. Nyttend (talk) 19:12, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Old Ohavi Zedex Synagogue in Burlington: "Zedex" should be "Zedek" — "Zedex" makes no sense, but "Zedek" makes complete sense in a Hebrew-language context. Nyttend (talk) 07:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ethan Allen Engine company No. 4 in Burlington: listing fails to capitalize the word "company." Mfwills (talk) 14:19, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Grassemount in Burlington is correctly named Grasse Mount. Mfwills (talk) 21:07, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Town location issues
[edit]- St. John's Episcopal Church in the village of Highgate Falls in the town Highgate, Vermont is listed as being in the town of Highgate Falls, which does not exist. clariosophic (talk) 20:04, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Sweat-Comings Company House is listed in Richmond, but the map and coords clearly show it to be in Richford. Nyttend (talk) 07:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- Richwood Estate is listed as being "North of St. Albans off U.S. Route 7." That description is accurate, as are the coordinates. The property, however, is in Swanton, not St. Albans. Mfwills (talk) 14:37, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Douglas & Jarvis Patent Parabolic Truss Iron Bridge is listed as being in Highgate Falls. Highgate Falls is not a town; it is a named location in the Town of Highgate, which is how the listing should read. See also the street address issue below. Mfwills (talk) 21:07, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Connecticut River Covered Bridges (Mount Orne, Columbia and Cornish-Windsor) should not be listed as being in Vermont towns. The state line between Vermont and New Hampshire is at the high water mark on the west side of the river (i.e., the Vermont shoreline). Thus, these bridges are not in Vermont but only touch it; they are the property of the State of New Hampshire, and maintained by the New Hampshire Highway Department. Mfwills (talk) 23:46, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Orne Covered Bridge (NOT the Mount Orne Bridge, above) is listed as being in Coventry, Vermont. It is very close to the town line and the principal village of Coventry, but the bridge is in the town of Irasburg. Mfwills (talk) 18:05, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Martin Covered Bridge is not in Plainfield, but in adjacent Marshfield. Confusion may arise from the fact that the principal village of Plainfield straddles the town line quite close to the Town of Marshfield park of which this bridge is the centerpiece[2]. Mfwills (talk) 19:05, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Georgia Plain Baptist Church is listed in NRIS as being in "Geogia", New Hampshire; it is in Georgia, New Hampshire. --doncram 23:21, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
Street address issues
[edit]- The East Arlington Village Historic District is listed as being "Roughly bounded by Old Mill, Ice Pond, E. Arlington, and Warm Brook Rds., Maple and Pleasnt Sts., and the Lane" — need to correct spelling of "Pleasant". Nyttend (talk) 12:19, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Rutland Downtown Historic District in Rutland is listed as being "Roughly bounded by Strong Ave., State, Wales, Washington, Pine, and Cottage Sts.": correct spelling from "Strong" to "Strongs". Nyttend (talk) 01:57, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- The F.W. Wheeler House in Richford is listed at "31 Interbale Ave."; correct spelling to "Intervale Ave." Nyttend (talk) 14:42, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- The Winooski River Bridge in Richmond is listed as being on Vermont Route 2, but it's clearly U.S. Route 2. Nyttend (talk) 07:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- Fletcher Union Church, Fletcher, Vermont is listed as being on VT 1 (taken to mean Vermont State Route 1). It should be correctly identified as Town Highway 1. Mfwills (talk) 21:26, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Douglas & Jarvis Patent Parabolic Truss Iron Bridge is incorrectly listed as being on U.S. Route 2; rather, it carried Vermont Route 207, but since the bridge was closed to traffic and the road relocated, it is no longer on that route, either. It is more accurately described as adjacent to Vermont Route 207. Alternately, Google Maps locates the coordinates at 428 Mill Hill Road. Mfwills (talk) 22:03, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
County location issues
[edit]- Samuel Gilbert Smith Farmstead, 375 Orchard St., Brattleboro, is listed in Windsor County. It's in Windham County. --sanfranman59 (talk) 07:12, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Other descriptive issues
[edit]- River Road Covered Bridge, Troy, Vermont: river is misspelled as "Missisquni." Correct to read "Missisquoi."Mfwills (talk) 14:54, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
