The inaugural Innovation Law and Policy Editathon was held on Saturday March 8, 2014, at New York University School of Law. We worked with law professors and activists to create, edit, and improve articles at the intersection of law and innovation.

After the editathon proper in the afternoon, those interested can walk together to join an evening social Wiki-meetup at a neighborhood restaurant downtown.

When and where

[edit]
  • Date: Saturday, March 8, 2014 from noon to 6 p.m. If you can't join us for the entire editathon, no problem! Come for as long or little as you like.
  • Venue: New York University School of Law, Furman Hall, 245 Sullivan Street, NYC, 10012. IND subway to West Fourth Street – Washington Square (New York City Subway); walk east (against traffic) on Third Street to Sullivan.

  • Twitter Hashtag: #ILPEdit

What is Innovation Law?

[edit]

"Innovation law" encompasses all kinds of legal issues, including patents, trademarks, antitrust, advertising, and copyright (and copyfraud), and how these areas of law intersect with privacy, free speech, and technology.

It's like intellectual property, but broader.

Many of these legal topics concern matters of public interest. Even though a lot of case law and policy information is available online, the average person may not know where to look. We're looking to bring professors and activists who have technical expertise in these areas together with passionate students and editors to help us improve legal articles about these cutting-edge topics.

Suggested Innovation Law Articles & Topics

[edit]

The following is a sampling of suggested Wikipedia articles to create or add upon. However, feel free to come up with your own ideas!

Helpful updates could be as simple as: Making sure reference links are still appropriate and functional; Adding new inline citations/references; Adding a photo; Adding an infobox; Adding data to more fields in an existing infobox; Creating headings; Adding categories; etc.
