Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: automatic
Programming language(s): Javascript
Source code available: User:DannyS712 test/DNC bot.js
Function overview: Automate the conversion of categories that user drafts / draftspace drafts are added to from categories to links
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): WP:DRAFTNOCAT, Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PrimeBOT 2
Edit period(s): As needed
Estimated number of pages affected: Not many (~10 per run? depends on how frequently it is activated)
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): No
Function details: Go through the pages in Category:AfC submissions with categories and, for pages in the user or draft namespace, convert the categories to links. I already have this as a manual user script (User:DannyS712/Draft no cat), but since I would like to be able to activate this at the category page and have it automatically run the same script to all of the pages in that category without making individual decisions, I thought I should submit a BRFA.
Discussion
[edit] Note: Currently, there is a safety check to only run if ( name === "User:DannyS712 test/sandbox" || name === "User:DannyS712 test" )
. Thil allowed me to run a test, with edit 1 and 2 --DannyS712 (talk) 20:10, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @DannyS712: Isn't PrimeBOT already doing this though? Why is a new task needed exactly? Or do you mean taking what PrimeBOT 2 does and running via a cronjob? --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:05, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @TheSandDoctor: Yes, it is, but recently I've been seeing pages in the category and going through each manually to fix them. I'd like to make it easier to go through them all. Also, PrimeBOT uses AWB, which means that they have to open a separate application, make list, etc, etc, to go through the pages. For me, this would be "Oh, there's more than 3 pages here, I'll click on my tool and fix that" or something like that. I don't see the harm in having both, and the upside is redundancy and that I could, perhaps, just run it every day, rather than only when I realize that it has become an issue. --DannyS712 (talk) 06:09, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- Also, I don't yet know how to use toolforge and run a cronjob, but that could be a future task. --DannyS712 (talk) 06:10, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- (edit conflict) @DannyS712: Fair enough. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:13, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved for trial (25 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Let's see how this does and take things from there. In summaries please link to this BRFA. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:13, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @TheSandDoctor: Started - did the only 2 in the category. I'll check back periodically, but can you take a look and see it that was okay? --DannyS712 (talk) 06:48, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @DannyS712: Looks fine and do take as much time as is needed. You might also want to either create User:DannyS712/DNC_bot instead of leaving it as a redlink or change where the edit summaries link to. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:50, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
- @TheSandDoctor: Trial complete. --DannyS712 (talk) 20:33, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved. Just as a note, DannyS712, please make sure that when finishing a trial you link to the specific group of edits so that it's easier to find the trial edits down the line (for example, your task 2 trials are now no longer the top of the contribs).
