Would love some feedback

ZooPro, I know I haven't had too many questions of you as my mentor, but I am wondering if you would take a quick look at my first article that I have put up and give me a little bit of feedback. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Prometheus_Radio_Project_v._FCC Thanks. Wikipedia Ambassador Program Newsletter: 22 April 2011

This is the fourth issue of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program Newsletter, with details about what's going on right now and where help is needed.

Delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 16:38, 22 April 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Hello ZooPro. Long time. Just wondering if, at some point, we could pick up the species common names thing where we left off? No hurry, no pressure. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:53, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Anna, My apologies I will not be very active on wikipedia until around april. The zoos in my region are going through a rough patch and I must focus on assisting them. Sadly Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve has already folded and we are attempting to rehouse some of the animals. I will try my best to get back asap. ZooPro 11:05, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. There's no rush. Sorry to hear about Cairns folding. Tell the animals I say "mooooo", "aka-aka-aka", "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee", "week-week-week-week" where appropriate. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:14, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please help assess articles for Public Policy Initiative research

Hi ZooPro/Archive September 2011,

Your work as an Online Ambassador is making a big contribution to Wikipedia. Right now, we're trying to measure just how much student work improves the quality of Wikipedia. If you'd like contribute to this research and get a firsthand look at the quality improvement that is happening through the project, please sign up to assess articles. Assessment is happening now, just use the quantitative metric and start assessing! Your help would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you, ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 17:16, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cairns

Sorry, you know you can't put in opinion without support. I have reverted your Cairns addition, though I would probably agree with you if I had seen the conditions. We need someone saying it in the news, or even on ZooChat, but so far I haven't come up with any such refs (the ZooChat citation on "controversy" was already broken, and the thread that I found didn't support the allegations). If you can get me some refs, I would be happy to add back information on the current conditions. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have much time over the next couple of weeks to go digging myself, but I have put it on my list to look at when I have a chance. Donlammers (talk) 14:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WOW I must of left my computer on in my office, I sure as heck did not write that, Thanks for the heads up. ZooPro 00:48, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I should note I am at the moment involved in dealing with Cairns Safari and some people are not happy with the transaction. I have changed my password for security purposes. ZooPro 06:04, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think that sounded like something you would write. I gathered from something you said earlier that you were involved over there, and of course I'm curious, but I guess I will just have to wait with the rest of the world to find out what happened. Good luck with whatever it is that is going on. Donlammers (talk) 23:27, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please take the Wikipedia Ambassador Program survey

Hi Ambassador,

We are at a pivotal point in the development of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program. Your feedback will help shape the program and role of Ambassadors in the future. Please take this 10 minute survey to help inform and improve the Wikipedia Ambassadors.

WMF will de-identify results and make them available to you. According to KwikSurveys' privacy policy: "Data and email addresses will not be sold, rented, leased or disclosed to 3rd parties." This link takes you to the online survey: http://kwiksurveys.com?u=WPAmbassador_talk

Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, Thank You!

RFA

I think you'd be a good admin with your knowledge of content from all the zoology projects and also have good use for the tools given your organizing tendancies and leadership. Wish you had not thrown things in their faces, was overly dramatic. More something I would do.

You don't need to "crawl", but I hope you can wait a while and then do the thing more calm and cool.

I know it is a cliche, but "I already thought you were one" from your calm leadership at AAR.

TCO (talk) 17:38, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks mate, give it a few months and ill have another crack at the mop. ZooPro 12:30, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New articles

There are a bunch of biographies linked to from the Zoological Society of London article: presidents, secretaries, and such. Should I go in and add WPZOO to all of these? I just added the first president/founder, but figured I would get a second opinion before adding them wholesale. There are on the order of 60 articles, maybe more if I go through the text instead of looking at just the lists. Donlammers (talk) 14:14, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problem with you adding them. ZooPro 07:19, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Anything needed

Hey ZooPro I've been a bit over worked with school...lol Is there anything that needed to be watched due to a lot of vandalism or anything in need of improvement by providing citations? DeucesMcelite (talk) 04:18, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey buddy I will let you know soon, everythin looks okay at the moment though, Cheers ZooPro 12:32, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Puma

Neoson, unnatural, artificial, subsequently take by people. Like pythons in the Florida.--Westnest message 10:40, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thats not really acceptable on an encyclopedia, no source and if you wish to include captivity you might as well make the whole world blue. Please be more careful before introducing factually incorrect information. Cheers ZooPro 12:13, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I represented that is unnatural. Look at British and Malaysian police reports.--Westnest message 15:55, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They're living in the wildlife of those countries unnatural.--Westnest message 15:59, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
An isolated case of an escaped animal is not worth adding to a map, they are not listed as a wild/feral animal in those ranges. ZooPro 02:13, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
cougarnet is an excellent site for this stuff. Read their discussions and the big picture map. They are a small nonprofit but have scientists on the board. Really quite good. MUCH better than wiki articles where people try to claim there are cougars in Appalachia and the like. See: [1]. The green represents breeding populations. The sightings in the Midwest are male lions travelling (occasionally) further out. Maybe some pet escapes too...but definitely mostly wild lions. The stuff in FL (and even the one confirmation in Georgia) were also travelling males from the south FL population. The stuff in the NE is pet releases (e.g. DNA showing South American stock).TCO (talk) 02:53, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The addition of the CT killed lion to the puma lead is misleading as it makes it seem as if that were a transient male, not an escapee. And there are no nearby breeding populaitons.TCO (talk) 03:08, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was more concerned with the map that I replaced, the one that had cougars roaming the english countryside :P ZooPro 03:43, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Map does not show the normal range properly either.TCO (talk) 03:49, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not very good at creating/changing maps, I will ask one of our more map savy users if they could create a new one (unless you wanted to have a crack at it??) Might be something WikiProject Mammals could do as a monthly project. Any ideas?? ZooPro 03:54, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I do have a map-maker up my sleeve...and I have a fair amount of experience integrating sources for range. Have even read a decent amount on the cougar (more in US minutia though). But the map in cougar looks fine. That map you show is only being used in some Turkish site. Is really hosed though...TCO (talk) 04:19, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will leave it in your capable hands, Yeah I restored the current map that the cougar article uses the one above was way to broad and incorrect. ZooPro 04:23, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

You removed a number of links from my talk page. Whilst I dare say you acted within the letter of the law in doing so, I am a little bemused by your feeling the need to do this. I realise you are under no obligation to explain such an action, but I would still ask, as a personal favour, would you discuss this decision with me? Thanks Prunesqualer (talk) 23:40, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to discuss the matter with you, Please dont take it as a personal offence, My reason for doing it was more to benifit you then the project. I noticed you have had some "issues" in the past and if it had only been 1 Youtube link (or even a link to a usertalk subpage) then I would have had no issues and would have gently reminded you of the policy. We are given a lot of discretion in what we have on our userpages/talk pages, If you wish to have links to YouTube then I would suggest making a subpage with a lead that explains what the links are, why you are using then and what users can expect to see on the YouTube video. Kind regards ZooPro 01:35, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ZooPro- Thanks for replying to my post. I appreciate that your action on my page was well intentioned. (An attempt to save me from myself maybe?) Here’s the thing though- In the face of some rather frustrating shenanigans, I have tended to use posting videos on my talk page as a kind of pressure release valve (what you biologist might call a displacement reaction). I feel that, tucked away on my talk page, where few people will see them, those links where doing little, or no, harm to anybody. Consequently I would like to respectfully ask (no doubt flying in the face of your own sound wiki judgement) could you please reinstate them. All the best Prunesqualer (talk) 10:06, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can we compromise and you perhaps put them on your userpage instead of your talk page and ensure they are properly labeled and perhaps give a reason for the links. A talk page is not really the best place for YouTube links. I am happy for you to perform the actions yourself there is no need for me to further edit your userspace. Kind regards ZooPro 10:33, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My above edits were made without looking at the videos I removed the links for from User:Prunesqualer's page. I was contacted via email by the user and they informed me those videos contain material that is covered in the users topic ban. Having been made aware of this fact I will now take the required course of action. ZooPro 13:07, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please, can you check this list of redirects? Bulwersator (talk) 23:09, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, it is probably result of my poor English. I wanted to ask you to check/verify/validate/proofread bot generated list, not to create all suggested articles (it is very easy to do it using bot but there is risk of propagating errors across multiple Wikipedias) Bulwersator (talk) 10:12, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will go through them and ensure they are correct. ZooPro 10:15, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello from Anna

Bob the hamster while "not on his meds"

Thank you so much for the nice stuff. I hope you are well. Always remember, don't keep the giraffes in the pen near the power lines. And if you don't have an aardvark, just put a Shopvac in the cage. Nobody will know the difference. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:05, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Anna Frodesiak

Hello, urm... so I'm guessing that you spoke to Anna on IRC or have been e-mailed by her. I was a bit confused as to what personal attacks I have made against people, if it is believed that I have made personal attacks it wouuld be nice for them to be pointed out to me so that I can improve this in the future. Also I don't believe that there has been any form of harassment, in terms of harrassment, I believe I have been harrassed. If she says on the IRC channel (#en-wikipedia-help), "Hello, can I help?", then I PM and say "Hello, how are you, can I have some help" and then instead of telling me to leave her alone I get edits like this I'm the one that feels harrassed. Then when I reply on her talk page, she gets her admin friends such as you and experienced users such as Sitush to threaten me because she doesn't like what's going. This whole thing of her's started when I spoke to her about User:Gorlack36 and his rollback rights on the IRC channel, she thought that I was some proper experienced user and chatted to me for 45 mins then when she found out that I had been blocked, she says to me "I hate you, liars swim in China". So she is just looking for reasons to be nasty to me, for example I have also tried to apologise to her on IRC for that thing with Gorlack36 but she just posts on my user talk. IRC and Wikipedia are not connected entities, what happens on IRC should not affect anything on Wikipedia and it seems to be. Yes, maybe I shouldn't have tried to push through my apology or tried to make up with her but that's what I believe in. Please reply to this. Much appreciated. :-) -- PoliMaster talk/spy 15:44, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wait I do apologise you are not an admin. ;-) -- PoliMaster talk/spy 15:46, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are lying. I want to publish the chatlogs. I've asked at your talk. Please give your permission. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:00, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
ZooPro she has urged for so long to be left alone, now that she is being left alone, she again is trying to add fuel to my fire, it doesn't matter to her if I'm gone but it does matter to me and hopefully some other users. Now that she is being left alone, she won't just take it at that, I have also asked for her to contact my mentor if she wants to speak to me but she isn't doing that and now even wants to speak to me on my user talk page. I am willing to discuss with her on IRC (via Private Message) as to whether to publish these, I am not currently giving my permission as she will not just leave it at this and instead wants to gather you all up and attack me in my opinion. I am currently online there now for 20 minutes. -- PoliMaster talk/spy 16:12, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am terribly sorry to butt in, but I would like to know, what is this issue regarding? Does this regard any form of a ban in #wikipedia-en-help connect? If it does, I have some more comments I would like to make and may have helpful information, although I don't know yet since I am not quite clear on what the issue is here. Thanks!  JoeGazz  ▲  16:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would just like to say, I have spoken with Anna and she has cooperated enormously with me to provide me information on her side of the story and significant evidence supporting it. Anna never once said she hated TPM, not once, she hated the situation. This is only one example of the many many many lies TPM has told over the time that I've known him and see him. I am an uninvolved party and simply here to mediate and help out. I wasn't involved in this exact situation, however, I do know how TPM likes to work around people and "opshop" and "adminshop" etc. He has asked at least 3 other users that I know of other than Anna to give him information regarding Gorlack36, which he had no reason to be concerned about in the first place. He has made requests from me to give him the IP of Gorlack which I declined (I had the IP from his joining on the IRC Channel). He continually is making false accusations all over the place on the wiki as well as IRC and it is becoming a bit of a concern to me. I don't see any personal attacks made by Anna so I don't understand the issue here. The only issue I see is that TPM, you are lying, left and right, and it needs to stop, it gets you no where. I however did see a few personal attacks you have made to people on your end on IRC which I will be looking into and taking appropriate action on. I'm sorry to all of you that this is a bit scattered all over the place, this user, TPM, is getting on my nerves now and it needs to stop. I appreciate your patience and hope that you all will take me seriously as well as Anna 100% serious, I have no doubt in her honesty.  JoeGazz  ♂  16:52, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What personal attacks are there from me? -- PoliMaster talk/spy 18:44, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
WOW a lot seems to have happened, Firstly; User:Thepoliticalmaster you are clearly not getting the problem after a number of very experienced and trust worthy editors have explained it to you, I will move to ban you from anything that relates to Anna or any areas Anna is involved in. If you break this Ban you will be blocked, Simple. Secondly; Anna, I will move to "Topic" Ban TPM within the next 24 hours, I apologies for the lenghty time it will take as I am swamped at work, however I assure you it will happen. Joe thanks for your input :) warmest regards ZooPro 07:02, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ambassador Program: assessment drive

Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.

In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.

Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

Keys to Species

Heya, just to let you know I have started a discussion on the Turtle Portal about utilising the natural hierarchy of web pages and hence WP as a means of adding keys to the pages. Was hoping for your thoughts on this.. Cheers Faendalimas (talk) 02:15, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reptipedia

Heya mate,

whats happening over at Reptipedia? I have some issues as well but was wondering. Not sure I can hamdle them without help. Cheers. Faendalimas talk 16:22, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Exhibit Descriptions

Hey ZooPro. I'm a member of WikiProject Zoo but I need help deciding how to write about the exhibits. Should it be more of a walkthrough description (beginning of complex, exhibit by exhibit, to the end) like at Oregon Zoo's Great Northwest, or just a general description of the animals, topography, plants, etc.? Thanks in advance! Takinzinnia (talk) 01:29, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well its a choice really, I think describing the exhibit as a walk-through is the best way and in that description describe the topography and plants in that area. Use both of your suggestions mixed together :) and if you need any help feel free to ask ZooPro 02:07, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! :) Takinzinnia (talk) 01:08, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback privelages..

Hi ZooPro,

I have requested rollback privilages from Bibliomaniac15 User_talk:Bibliomaniac15#Rollback_privelages.. he was one of those listed that I could put this rwequest in to. I was hoping between the two of you I might be able to get this. To assist in my efforts against vandalism. Cheers, Faendalimas talk 04:05, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Case in point Limnodynastes dorsalis. Cheers, Faendalimas talk 04:07, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey bud Biblio has been away for some time now, I would suggest requesting the right at Rollback requests, Would be much faster and would then be a non-bias grant, though I would endorse it. ZooPro 10:23, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry figured you guys knew I would not abuse the privilage. It is done at ther appropriate place. Cheers Faendalimas talk 14:26, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Holy crikey, I would never have expected you to be declined.... I will put my two cents in there. I would trust yah with every tool we have :) ZooPro 01:56, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that, I appreciate the confidence. Let me know if I can do anything else in the Projects I am involved in too. Cheers, Faendalimas talk 03:53, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
and thanks for the followup on the rollback page, I have to say I dont mind if someone objects, I had no issue with Salvio's denial I can see his point and said so on his talk page. I did also find it unusual for an applicant to be commenting. Cheers Faendalimas talk 04:19, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well I think its best to stop before it turns into a bit of a war, I would suggest stalking the recent changes for a few days then re-request the right, would be no problem after that. ZooPro 04:26, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep I am fine with that. I did chat to Salvio about it and I will follow up on it. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Faendalimas talk 04:32, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization

Then, Category:Ecology of the Rocky Mountains is incorrect?, I don't think so, it's obvious that the Rocky Mountains are in North America, The Main article is named Rocky Mountains it is not named Rocky Mountains (North America). Thank you.--Noder4 (talk) 05:43, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am shocked that you made all those changes without consulting anyone, The category you stated is only very new, there are plenty of rocky mountains around the world. Wikipedia says be bold but I think you have overstepped the mark with your interpretation. ZooPro 05:50, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. An old ghost is back to haunt you.

I dropped it for a long time because you were involved with other things. To refresh your memory, we left off with you saying that you'd give it a look-see before I post it at relevant project pages requesting input. Then, if it seems worth it, it could be added to the guidelines page.

Take your time. Be frank. Let me know. Many thanks. Triple smiles. :) :) :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:58, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hahaha, Oh Anna I was wondering when you would remind me :P I promise I will look at it tomorrow :) its 7:14 at night here in Aus and I really need to go home :P Please leave another Msg on my page to remind me in the morning :) ZooPro 09:14, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take your time. No hurry. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:00, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get your green light for me to move this forward? I'd love to see the table added to the guidelines. Case in point:

Another case not covered in the proposal or the current guidelines is being discussed. The result of this one could be added for the future. Please see: Talk:Peacock-pheasant#Capitalization of species names within this genus

Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods

Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:

  • Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
  • Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
  • Watching out for the class as a whole
  • Helping students to get community feedback on their work

This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.

You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.

Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.

If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

PS: There are still a lot of student articles from the last term that haven't been rated. Please rate a few and update the list!

Lol...every time I see your name, I have to wonder how you pronounce it-- ZOH-oh-PRO? or ZU-pro? Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 17:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I take my name from "Zoo Professional" so I always say it as two words Zoo Pro :) hope that helps. ZooPro 01:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
