IRI Military Emblems
[edit]I'm trying to fix up the rather bare-bones Military of Iran and get a series going there, even though I have already bitten off more than I can chew with Military of Greece. Right now I'm in the "creating colorful templates phase." (See: Template:Iran Military). The problem is, I'm stuck, because the only service emblem I could find was the Iranian Air Force roundel, which someone was kind enough to have already uploaded. I did a Google search, but nothing came up. I found some pictures of an Iranian military parade, and I saw some tanks and trucks with what looked like a stylized گ. Is that the Ground Forces symbol? That would make it too easy! If you can give me any pointers or you know of any image sources, please let me know. --Jpbrenna 3 July 2005 08:44 (UTC)
- You have just reverted back all my recent edits to the Tehran article. This is not the way we do things in the Wikipedia. I protected the page (as your version) until this resolves.
- Don't write Persian in Latin on the talk pages. This way people who don't speak Persian won't understand your allegations. roozbeh July 3, 2005 14:28 (UTC)
Pics on San Antonio Texas
[edit]I'm afraid images which cannot be commercially reused are not allowed in Wikipedia. Unless you can get permission from the photographer for his images to be freely reused both commercially and non-commercially, you won't be able to use those images. Here is a further explanation of the policy. Kaldari 7 July 2005 00:04 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, it doesn't matter if the photographer gives permission to use it on Wikipedia. Wikipedia only accepts photos which have non-restrictive licensing, i.e. free for commercial and non-commercial reuse. The reason for this is that Wikipedia content is reused by other websites (such as about.com), so the photographs must also be reusable and not limited exclusively to wikipedia. Kaldari 7 July 2005 14:48 (UTC)
Inaccuracies
[edit]Concerning the number of Persian-speakers, there is definitely a problem there (even concerning the number of native speakers). Is the number supposed to be inclusive of those who speak Persian as a 2nd language as well, or is that supposed to be in a different ranking? Because with Iran's population being somewhere in the 74-76 million range and the majority speaking Persian as their first language, with minorities speaking Persian as a 2nd language, the number listed should be much higher. Also, I've noticed that in the Iran article, there is no official census figure of the total population. Do you know what sources are considered acceptable for that article?
Concerning the Safavids, wouldn't Azerbaijani language be more accurate than Turkic language (which is vague and could imply they spoke the same language as the Ottomans, which they did not)? Is there any difference between Azeri and what the Safavids spoke? SouthernComfort 7 July 2005 03:29 (UTC)
- Yes, I think the CIA estimates would be the only reliable source. As for the list of languages, 84,238,675 seems to be a fair figure - it would have to be around that range, more or less (which is inclusive of those who speak Persian as a 2nd language as well). For diaspora figures, there is this missionary link [1] which might be useful. Does there have to be some sort of consensus before adding in the number? SouthernComfort 7 July 2005 09:12 (UTC)
Safavids
[edit]I've done quite a bit of copyediting and correcting a few mistakes over at Safavids. Do you see any reason why it's factual accuracy should be in dispute? Overall it looks fine to me, though I'm not sure if Azeri was the official language of the court at all times - perhaps before Shah Abbas, but not after, right? Talk:Texas
[edit]There is a message for you on Talk:Texas. UH Collegian 9 July 2005 15:05 (UTC)
- This is getting out of hand. I believe there is a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication envloved at Talk:Texas. Will you give me the opportunity to try to clear the dispute between you and UHCollegian up? Surely a seasoned contributor to wikipedia (and I assume iranian.com) will be willing come to a negotating table in good faith. Thanks. -JCarriker|Talk July 9, 2005 16:03 (UTC)
- Would you consider dropping MD Anderson from the list, UT is already represented by UT Austin. Also UH Collegian is willing to apolgize for his violations of wikiquette. Would you also be willing to apologize for the "Look kid" remark? -JCarriker 21:59, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- I think he was ofended at your comment about the image and went off. In the compromise I'm proposing Baylor would stay and MD Anderson would go. Since MD Anderson is part of UT it makes more sense that it should be the oen squeezed out in the compromise. He may be upset with A&M but he also wants UH included, compromise includes give and take. Also, I'd apolgize to him directly rather than me as you've do nothing to me meritng an apology, though I appreciate you willlingness to offer one. -JCarriker 22:24, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Actually I grant permission to edit the languages per a notice under the welcome noticese: My knowledge of languages without Latin characters is negligible; please forgive me if I insulted your mother. Please correct the mistake(s) if you are a native speaker, but thanks for pointing it out any way. Now which was it you corrected Arabic or Farsi? I'm too incompetnent to remember which one a put where. Also why is English missing from your Babel listing on your user page? Just curious. Also if you live in Tenn. and are interested in Texas why not join Wikipedia:U.S. Southern wikipedians' notice board? -JCarriker 22:47, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Apparently I missed a large section on my talk page that UH Collegian posted. It may complicated things, I hope not given your apology I'll speak to him anyway. Sorry. -JCarriker 23:01, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
Correction and Move
[edit]I'm pleased with the correction you made, my point was that I invited native speakers to correct errors. On moving, welcome to Texas. You like San Antonio, its the most Americanized city in Latin American you know. Central Texas and the Hill Country is beautiful, though its not the magnolias, wisteria, and pine tress of my native East Texas, but pretty just the same. You may also be interested in joining WikiProject Texas. Again thanks for the correction. -JCarriker 23:07, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
What is this?
[edit]What is this? After all the time and effort I put into trying to broker a compromise between you and UH Collegian. I thought we had an agreement? -JCarriker 23:24, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Kate is unaware of my attempts at brokering a compromise, and do you really think UH Collegian will accept a vote proposed during a negotation- very bad move. He'll only see your move as more bad faith. UH Collegian won't let it go that easily, you should know that. -JCarriker 23:37, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- I think if you had an idea like that you should have proposed it as part of the negotiations, rather than run off and make a move unilaterally. All of the work we've been doing for the last few hours is gone now. I'm very disappointed in you. -JCarriker 23:44, July 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Frankly you've made a major mistake. The post you made on my page in regards to Kate's support makes it look as if you jumped out of the negotiations as soon as you thought you had the upper hand on UH Collegeian. I strongly urge you to return to the table, it's not too late. -JCarriker 00:00, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
- From your point of view he intiated by taking a hostile tone. In his view you started it you started by insisting that the pic be removed and that it was not in the same class as the others. A vote won't be a permanet soultion any more than the negotiations would have. Other user will come in other will leave. with the negotiations you get an agreement that is acceptable to the warring parties. What you've done is make UH Collegian madder than hell, he would have apologized to he deleted an entire post that was hostile to you on Talk:Texas. Kate hasn't voted in your poll, she wasn't aware of the negotiations. I have since informed her of your actions and the negotiaiosn and asked her to boycott the vote. I urge you to return to the negotitations, however I will not ask again. Peace. -JCarriker 00:20, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

Good faith edit
[edit]- UHCollegian has made a good faith edit by removing his attack on you after you posted the vote. See it here. I'm certain that he will apologize in due course. Until then I am asking people not to participate in this vote, to allow time for him to make it. -JCarriker 00:59, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
- You didn't give him a chance to apologize, you preceded with intiating the vote. The compromise was only under discussion, UH hadn't responded to it. You are the one that took it to Talk:Texas as if it were a done deal. People are not always online at the same time you have to give them time to respond. I've asked people to wait on voting until the 12th that should be more than enough time, for UH to offer an apology. -JCarriker 01:12, July 10, 2005 (UTC)
Talk: Texas, part 2
[edit]I would like to offer an appology of my personal attacks, such as calling you "greedy" and "ignorant". Other than that, I have re-read my first post and found that I did not have a tone toward you at all. Some had personal attacks, yes. What I typed on the first response was directly from emotions and did not have a tone at all. I usually type like how I speak and/or feel at the time. Again, I appologize for the personal remarks I made initially. As I was typing the first response, I did not view some of the stuff I said to be "personal attacks" but rather my opinion from your views of what can be and cannot be included. Also, I did not think it was fair that you get to put all five pictures on there and then when someone else put something up there, you demand it taken off. For example, a month ago, I added a picture of Austin to the "Important cities and towns" section of the article because it is the fourth largest city. Originally, there were 3 pictures of the top 3 cities. I added Austin because space permitted and because it is the fourth largest city. My action of adding Austin was not because I like Austin or a fan of Austin. I only did it b/c space allowed. I am not from Austin by the way but I added it as well. As you can see, the city that I am from is not pictured on there and I am not going to add it either. You said that I want UH's picture to stay on there plainly because I attend that school. If that was true, I would have added a picture of Sugar Land to the "important cities and towns" section but I didnt and will not. If I did not attend UH, I would have added UH to the picture anyway because usually the top 3 are represented, in order of population. No, I do not have any problem with Texas A&M or UT, I changed the picture of A&M b/c I wanted a better picture for the page. You seem to think low of me because I go to UH. I just want to let you know that I had the opportunity to attend UT but I chose not to. I was maybe a bit hostile to you because of your urgent demand on removing the pictures, not dissing UH. I know UH is second tier, along with UNT, Texas Tech, UT-Arlington, etc. However I believe that pictures of state universities should be represented because they represent the cutlure/heritage of Texas. - I don't remember this occuring either, as I just noticed it yesterday - if my memory is correct, the article was not a stub and there were no grounds for deletion, unless it was a result of some sort of glitch or whatever. As for Tehran's weather, that's nothing compared to what it's like in Khuzestan this time of year, where it usually shoots up towards the 110s and even higher. ;) SouthernComfort 22:03, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit]You must know that most people find aggressive and uncivilized behavior extremely offensive and unacceptable. You forced me to examine your edit history and as a result I ended up pointing out just one example of your unacceptable behavior (Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Changes to the Sunnah made by the Rashidun). Arabic tag on Iranian people
[edit]Persian is different than Arabic, and I don't want to promote a misconception. But wasn't Persian written in Arabic letters? Help with farsi / persian
[edit]Hi, I am looking for somebody who speaks farsi and came across your name at the Iran portal. What I need help with is this: at the Swedish Wikipedia, one user, Hadi 89, has been uploading photos of various Iranian soccer players. The photos look like they have been taken from various Internet sites but the user insists that he has a written permission to use them from a photographer, Ali Ghabari.
The user has scanned the permission and it is now available at sv:Bilddiskussion:13-Hossein-Kaabi.jpg. None of us can read farsi, but do you think you can take a quick look and see what it is. Interestingly, the same scanned "permission" is used at the web page of an Iranian plastic company, alvandplastic. It would be a great help if somebody who understands farsi could answer if the permission is genuine or not. Regards, Thuresson 04:54, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
Mashhad
[edit]Hello Zereshk,
We seem to be in conflict over the Mashhad article. The news about Mahmoud Asgari and Ayaz Marhoni, which was added by someone else, you deleted, saying "This is not a news page, or a report card, or a lets-smear-the-Islamic-Republic politics page. Take your news somewhere else."
I agree that we should not be trying to create a news page. And I assure you that I'm not trying to smear Iran or create a report card of any sort. The reason that Mashhad is on my watchlist is because one of my friends is from there. I have no ill will against the city. But I do sincerely believe that this information belongs in this page.
I'll try to offer a few examples to show you what I mean. I'm from Massachusetts. A somewhat similar (I know I'm stretching things) incident happened in my state about sixty five years ago. Two men were convicted of a crime and killed, causing great public outcry in other countries. The case is that of Sacco and Vanzetti. It is linked to from several pages about cities in Massachusetts (e.g. Dedham, Massachusetts, Braintree (town), Massachusetts, Brockton, Massachusetts). The History of Boston, Massachusetts page even says, "Their execution sparked riots in London, Paris and Germany, and helped to reinforce the image of Boston as a hotbed of intolerance and discipline."
Now, I could see this as an attempt to smear Massachusetts or issue a report card, but I don't. This was a significant event, and it deverves a place in these articles.
Perhaps a more apt example comes from the page on Stockwell. "Stockwell gained a certain unexpected and unwelcome notoriety as the scene of the shooting by police of a terror suspect (who later proved to be an innocent Brazilian electrician, Jean Charles de Menezes) in the tube station and of the arrests of other suspects in nearby housing."
Should we remove this? Is this not news? A report card? A smear?
I hope you'll see that it's not. And I hope you'll understand why I think the information on Mahmoud Asgari and Ayaz Marhoni belongs on the Mashhad page.
Sincerely,
Acegikmo1 08:33, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I appologize ahead for clogging up your talk page with this.
Recently, User:Ed g2s keeps on changing the Texas template to a plain version and won't explain why. I need you guys to support me to keep the Texas template that has been active.
This is the Texas template that has been active, before that user erased it, see below:

This is the template that User:Ed g2s (that he made) and has been reverting to, see below:

I want you guys to have some input and decide which one is best for Texas. Like I said, I support the colorful template, but Ed g2s has been reverting it without explaination and has threatened to block me if I revert again to the colorful one. I think the colorful one is more aesthetic looking. Ed g2s doesn't seem to think so and keeps on erasing it to a plain version. abuse?
[edit]what do you mean "abusing admin" Roozbeh is not an admin. Also, he seems just to be tagging unsourced images: He is right: if you claim "PD" for an image, you need to provide the source, and give a reason. I seem to remember that you have taken this picture yourself. In such a case you need to say
- "I, User:Zereshk, have taken this picture and am hereby releasing it under the GFDL".
other images that you have not taken yourself need a source, and either a reason why they should be PD, or a "fairuse" tag. dab (ᛏ) 09:47, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
ah, I see Roozbeh is an administrator, after all, sorry. But that doesn't matter, he is just acting as a regular user here. dab (ᛏ) 09:50, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
he didn't remove it, it wasn't displayed because you have overwritten an earlier image. He probably just didn't see it. That's his mistake, but you should assume good faith, I think it is an honest mistake. He is apparently looking through hundreds of images, and was getting a bit careless. You can always revert his inaccurate edits. You will admit that he did tag some of your images as unsourced with good reason. That probably made him suspicious, so he looked through the other images you have uploaded. dab (ᛏ) 10:08, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
Request for monitoring and reversing admin abuse
[edit]Hi Zereshk, I've moved your comment from the WP:RFAR page to here. If you read below, you'll realise why I did this. --Deathphoenix 14:06, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
Please go to User:Roozbeh's page (an admin), then go to his "user contributions" section. His past 200 or so edits have ALL been nothing but following me around, and deleting the tags I already put on images I uploaded, and replacing them with fictitious copyvio tags. Here are 2 examples of the hundreds of images he is unwarrantedly deleting:
- http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Image:Iran_peoples.jpg (the U Texas link at the bottom clearly states the map is free)
- http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Image:Wheel_Iran.jpg (scroll down to see the history of this picture. I CLEARLY say even what I used to take this picture with.)
What do I do with him? This man really is trying to flush down the toilet everything I have been doing. He has a grudge against me, and it isnt his first time either. Thanx.--Zereshk 09:47, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- I don't think this is the place to ask this sort of question. This page is for the last step in dispute resolution, not the first. Read up on the dispute resolution page first, then maybe try launching an RfC (specifically, under Use of administrator privileges) if you feel you need to. --Deathphoenix 13:56, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Alternatively, if you don't want to go through the formality, you could try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. --Deathphoenix 14:02, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- This will be the last time I bug you with this. :-) Looking at the above comments in "abuse?", it looks like a simple mistake. Hopefully you can resolve this with Roozbeh without having to resort to any steps of dispute resolution, since going through any steps in that process can be unpleasant, to say the last. Have you entered into any dialogue with that user? --Deathphoenix 14:10, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Material copyrighted in Iran
[edit]Just recently, Jimbo Wales mentioned that the Wikimedia projects should respect the Iranian copyright law [4]. I would like to ask you to help us locate the material (either text or images) you have uploaded to the English Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects that you have claimed are public domain because they were produced in Iran. Apparently, we should treat them as copyrighted material from now on. roozbeh 11:49, August 18, 2005 (UTC)
Your other images
[edit]Thank you very much for mentioning the exact source of Image:Iran_peoples.jpg. Now that I could confirm the source, I removed the PUI tag from the page and put the proper tag there. I would appreciate it if you do the same for the other images uploaded by you, including those mentioned above, so their copyright status could be confirmed by Wikipedia contributors, including me. roozbeh 08:49, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Roozbeh
[edit]hi dude ! Whats wrong with this guy ? a new Zora has born.I dont think he has a usefulness but deleting the Iranian pictures before requesting from Author of the article for permission , Maybe his laptop was so expensive along with his "legal copy of Windows" , leading to this behaviour.Oh god he is not going to stop ! he is a real pain in the butt.
Oh by the way I need some more materials for Sassanids (my favourite dynasty) , you know there is a hit game coming out this september and it contains sassanid as playable faction, so alot of people may want to know more about them and I'm doing my best to enrich the article (if roozbeh dosent step in and ruin everything), so please if you have any thing useful contact me. Incomplete claim
[edit]Hi. You have put a PUI dispute claim on Image:Roozbeh pournader.png that says "This file has been listed on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because the information on its source or copyright status is disputed." But that is not true, the file is not listed on that page.
If you have a PUI dispute, please list the image on WP:PUI. If you don't have a dispute anymore and the reasons I have provided on the image page are enough, please remove the {{PUIdisputed}} tag. In case of any difficulty in PUI procedures, please refer to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images#How to list for the exact procedures. roozbeh 04:06, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Need help on Demographics of Islam article
[edit]Zereshk, I just put up a new article on the Demographics of Islam -- it's an attempt to get a handle on the # of Muslims/# of Sunni/# of Shi'a controversies that keep coming up. I made a spreadsheet analyzing the demographics country by country, then transferred it to a table.
The Shi'a are certainly grossly underestimated. Whenever I couldn't get a Sunni-Shi'a breakdown, I put all the Muslims in the Sunni column. While the Shi'a minorities in some countries may be small, all together they would add up to millions, I'm sure.
Whatever you may think of me, I'm sure that you have an interest in making sure that the Shi'a aren't undercounted. If you have access to any figures that would correct the inaccuracies, it would be nice if you could fix the table and cite your sources. Zora 14:33, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Please check your images
[edit]I noticed that you have some images in the category Category:Images with unknown source. Due to the vast number of images in this category (12000+), and the fact that, lacking a source, they present considerable copyright uncertanty, Jimbo has stated, and added to the Criteria for Speedy Deletion, "Images in category "Images with unknown source" or "Images with unknown copyright status" which have been in the category for more than 7 days, regardless of when uploaded." This means the images can, and will, be deleted with no notice. To see a list of all the images you've uploaded(at least, under this username), review the upload log. You might also find User:Pearle/by-author-Category:Images_with_unknown_source.txt to be useful(search for your username). If you have any questions, please let me know. - Thanks for making sure your images are tagged, and letting me know. You did remove the {{unverified}} or {{no source}}, etc. tags, right? In any case, thanks! JesseW, the juggling janitor 21:33, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Did you, personally, take the photograph Image:Pol e Farhad Abad.jpg, Image:Darol Ehsan Mosque Kurdistan.jpg and Image:Emarat Moshir Divan Kordestan.jpg? Could you please state the source? pronounciation of iran?
[edit]i have looked into this question a bit and have come up with multiple answers from different sources, according to M-W.com's english dictionary it's pronounced i-'rän('i' as in the 'i' in 'ice' and 'a' as in the long 'ā' in 'father'). however, i have also had a brief introduction into actually learning Farsi, and according to the text the correct pronounciation is ee- rān, with the ā being pronounced the same but the 'i' spoken as 'ee', as the 'i' the word 'ski'. which of these is correct? or are they simply pronounced differently depending on what language is being used? thanks --Gozar 00:25, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

- Same for Image:Kashan ceiling.jpg
Taking a photo of someone elses artwork cannot be claimed as GFDL. Unless you have verification otherwise, we have to assume this artwork is copyrighted and the image cannot be used, especially since you don't know who the artist is and thus when the artwork was published or when the artist may have died. This image is going to need to be deleted. --Nv8200p (talk) 19:37, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- Same for Image:Hosein.jpg
Hey Zereshk. You should keep an eye on this article. An anti-Islamic bigot has tried to put a neutrality notice on it because he believes Muslims can't do science. It is ridiculous because there isn't even a neutrality dispute on this article, and I think it's safe to just remove it. Thanks. Yuber(talk) 14:43, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Looks like http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Image:Iranparliament.jpg was deleted and the image put on the Commons. I don't have unlock priviliges on the Commons. I won't be able to anything for this. Sorry --Nv8200p (talk) 15:04, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

Islamic Sciences
[edit]Assalam o Alikum ,
Just saw your extensive work on Islamic sciences/scientists . I have added some categories to your articles , & started 2 new categories , Islamic Science & Muslim Scientists . My Internet connection speed is very poor , so I cant add the names of Each & every Muslim Scientist to them . So when ever you get time & whenever you start a new article , be sure to add as many relevent categories as possible . This way your work becomes more accessable for everybody .
Thanks for your good work on Islamic sciences
Khuda Hafiz . F.a.y.تبادله خيال /c 21:17, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Also Added category muslim scholars & list of da'ees .
I just wanted to let you know that there are a lot of Islamic science articles here & there , that are without category , or under nationality category, so they are impossible to find when somebody searches for Muslim scientists . People think there arnt any muslim scientists at all...lol . So whenever you write or see an article regarding muslim sciences , dont forget to add categories . Your Opthalmology article was very informative . I have also added it to the category . F.a.y.تبادله خيال /c 21:42, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

- Thanks for the message. I understand your concerns and there's no need to worry! Like you, I am not here to defend any part but to learn. I dunno much about the history of the conquest of Iran and that's why I couldn't contribute to the article. However, I stated my concerns in the talk page. We all know that articles should use proper terms that correspond to an encyclopedia. There's nothing personal Zereshk. Again, never worry ;) -- Svest 22:24, 31 October 2005 (UTC) Me again™
