[edit]
This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Zakringelstein, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:

  1. Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
  2. Please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 14:10, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you yourself are Mr. Ringelstein, you cannot use his name as your username. You will need to change it per the instructions above. A name in the format of "YourName of ZR campaign" would be acceptable(you don't have to use your real name). You will also need to review the policies I have linked to below. 331dot (talk) 14:14, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Zakringelstein. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Help United States Senate election in Maine, 2018, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 14:11, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The licensing of the image is likely incorrect, as it is not a selfie as the license indicates. 331dot (talk) 14:12, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Account unblocked

[edit]

As you have confirmed your identity to the WMF, the account has been unblocked. However the comments above about managing a conflict of interest still apply. Nthep (talk) 19:31, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nthep: Does this mean that Mr. Ringelstein is now using this account, and not a campaign worker as one of this account's edit summaries states? 331dot (talk) 00:35, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I can answer that due to the confidential nature of OTRS tickets, pinging @Cordless Larry: as he is the one who actually dealt with the ticket. Nthep (talk) 11:29, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
331dot, while OTRS can be used to confirm that Mr. Ringelstein has been in touch to say that this is his account, I don't think there's any way we can prove whether or not he is actually operating it. If edit summaries have indicated that a campaign worker is using it, then a reminder about WP:NOSHARING seems in order. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:40, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nthep I understand. Thanks for your reply nevertheless. Cordless Larry One of this user's edit summaries stated "I added a photo of Zak Ringelstein. FULL DISCLOSURE: this account is run by the Zak Ringelstein campaign. We released this photo to improve the quality of this Wikipedia page and allow people to see what Zak looks like." That's why I suggested that they change their username above to indicate that they are a campaign worker. If Mr. Ringelstein is now using the account himself, fair enough- but he clearly was not at the time of that edit, at least. 331dot (talk) 12:00, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • To this user, please remember that the sharing of accounts is not permitted. You have indicated that this account belongs to Zak Ringelstein, that means that he needs to be the one operating it. If it belongs to his campaign and is being operated by a campaign worker, they will need to either establish their own account and leave this one for Mr. Ringelstein, or request that the name of this one be changed. Please reply. Thanks 331dot (talk) 18:51, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • This account is being run by Zak Ringelstein.Zakringelstein (talk) 19:05, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Being run by someone does not necessarily mean that person is at the keyboard responding to my posts. This is not like social media where a representative or multiple representatives can operate someone's account for them and act in their name, if the account name is that of a specific person(especially someone who merits an article here) that specific person must be operating the account themselves. See WP:NOSHARE. You previously made an edit summary stating "I added a photo of Zak Ringelstein. FULL DISCLOSURE: this account is run by the Zak Ringelstein campaign. We released this photo to improve the quality of this Wikipedia page and allow people to see what Zak looks like." As I doubt Zak would speak about himself in the third person, that strongly suggests you are not him. In order for this account to be named Zakringelstein, Zak Ringelstein must be the one and only person actually operating it. If you are not Mr. Ringelstein, (do not tell me who you are if that is the case) you will need to change your username to indicate this is an account used by a campaign worker or representative of Mr. Ringelstein. In that situation, a username in the format of "Worker1234 of ZR campaign" or something similar would be acceptable. I appreciate your reply. 331dot (talk) 19:53, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
