Talkback notice

[edit]
Hello, Xpclient. You have new messages at FleetCommand's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
[edit]

Since noticing the issue with DirectX Media Objects above, I've noticed that you also copied material into Windows File Protection, SyncToy, and Service Control Manager and so I have a couple of questions for you: Have you done this with any more articles? If so, are you willing to identify them and help clean them up? VernoWhitney (talk) 19:15, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes when I was new I may have before I had read all the guidelines. You may look in my watchlist. I don't remember intentionally doing it. - xpclient Talk 19:32, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your honesty. I'm afraid I'm going to have to set up an investigation page here so that your contributions can be reviewed in an orderly fashion. Once it's set up, your assistance in reviewing your prior work would be appreciated. VernoWhitney (talk) 19:42, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For reasons I cannot disclose, I have ceased participating on Wikipedia entirely, starting today. - xpclient Talk 19:46, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to hear that. VernoWhitney (talk) 19:59, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: That's a bug, not a removed feature

[edit]

Except the functionality is still there. I just restarted and kept my Quick Launch toolbar, because it didn't mess up this particular time. We don't need to list every bug that sometimes keeps something from happening. - Josh (talk | contribs) 06:33, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A few notes on being on Wikipedia

[edit]

All right, XpClient, since you've already told me how you hate me, I'll skip the pleasantries and go straight to business. Instead of writing this:

Neither is "stable" any more clear. Is there evidence that the Server 2003 kernel is "more stable" than the XP kernel?

...consider writing this:

Improved the clarity of the statement and added source.

This way, no one thinks that you are attacking.

And by the way, please consider studying Template:Infobox Software/doc. URLs in infoboxes must be visible for print purpose and accessibility. Don't unnecessarily worry for contents being pushed one line. People use different types of monitors: 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x900. They also use 640x480 smartphones. Contents will wrap, one way or another.

Fleet Command (talk) 09:09, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lol I don't hate you, I hate some of the changes you make which change the meaning or introduce inaccuracies in some articles. But I don't claim to do everything perfectly, neither do I hold a grudge against anyone that long. As you must have seen, I've couldn't resist starting to contribute again to WP. Thanks for pointing me to that infobox. It says the significant portion must be visible so I changed it again so the significant portion (top level domain) remains visible. - xpclient Talk 15:34, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Eh? You don't? So here comes the barrage of pleasantries: Hello, XpClient. How do yo do? Merry Christmas! How's the things going on? (And so the Big Bad Evil Fleet Command lets out an evil laughter as he unleashes his artillery codename "pleasantries" upon our heroes! Will they survive? Stay tuned for the next episode!) Yeah, I saw your answer two hours ago, as well as your changes to Encarta. Template URL accepts a second parameter too, in case you want to hide a portion of a very long URL. It is a good template because it emits microformat. And in case you must know, I contributed a great deal to Infobox Software documentation as well a lot of other documentations. (Though I think the portion about URL was originally there when I improved it.) A lot of Wikipedia users go on a rampage when they hear that. Fleet Command (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes regarding sources

[edit]

Hi, XpClient

I'll go straight to the points.

Point #1: I'm not reprimanding you for anything and I'm not referring to any specific article, although I strongly feel that you should know and use the subsequent points. Therefore, I use hypothetical language to deliver my message, because I don't want to restrict my discussion to one single article.

Point #2: Please be careful when adding sources: Most (but not all) internet forums, discussion groups and message boards are not reliable sources. Forums can be used as reliable sources only under the following conditions:

  1. You quote from a notable expert or a knowledgeable person. (The only exception is when citing the source tends to direct the reader to that person's quotation.)
  2. There is a way to verify that the person you are quoting from is the person you think he or she is.

For example, a company's product announcement made by a company's employee, which is made sticky or made in the announcements section, is a reliable source for citing the release date of product, despite the fact that this source is a primary source as well. (We have seen that companies almost never lie about the release date of their product.) Company employees usually have a unique identifying features; e.g. their user status is "Employee", "Developer", etc. and this status cannot be attained by a user who freely registers in that forum.

Point #3: Please do cite a source, unless you are certain that %90 of average users can quickly and easily verify your assertion. For example, you may say "radioactive materials are very dangerous and pose a significant threat to human life" without citing a source because a lot of people have already read about that in their schoolbooks. But if you say something like "Windows Server XXXX version XX.XX, unlike its predecessor, released on YYYY-MM-DD, cannot run on systems that have exactly 64 CPUs", you must quote a source because not even %0.01 of people in the world can buy both versions of that OS along with a computer with 64 CPUs; those who can may not want to spend time installing both.

Fleet Command (talk) 09:59, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Still this notice must be in context of some recent reference I added. In the past few days, the only forum references I have added are for the Microsoft Expression Web article and all of them have Paul Bartholomew, who was the development lead on Microsoft Expression Web when that product was developed which satisfies conditions both conditions of point #2. If this notice is not about this article, please be specific about which references I added which were non-notable. - xpclient Talk 11:41, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Aha! I did expect you to make such a wrong conclusion. You assumed that the message should be related to something that you did recently while it corresponds to something that I recently took notice of your having done it. Assumption is the mother of all blunders. I'll go check that article, but in the mean time, are you sure point #3 also applies to that article? Fleet Command (talk) 21:28, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Assumption isn't the mother of all blunders. Being purposefully vague is. For some reason, you seem to have some personal problem with me these days. I have no time to perform any further discussion with you unless you be specific. You are free to draw any assumptions of your own. - xpclient Talk 17:48, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And here you go ignoring my point #1: No, I DO NOT have personal problems with you; I have been telling you this for a year and a half now. The problem is some of your contribution and it is strictly business Wikipedia business.

And don't worry for specifics; any subsequent violation of the above will come in your talk page. Here comes the first: The article that you mentioned yourself, Microsoft Expression Web. This contribution lack source:

Expression Web doesn't have the form validation controls for HTML fields like FrontPage, but supports validator controls for ASP.NET.

Fleet Command (talk) 21:17, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the remote control information on this article, the sentences you added back are misleading. They imply that only Microsoft remotes work with this application. This is not true. Other remotes can work with the application as well. Of course the sensor isn't part of the remote, but that's not what the sentences said. It says that the remote uses infrared technology, which is true. --Jtalledo (talk) 12:45, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, regarding your recent edit summary with this article, I recommend you review WP:AGF. --Jtalledo (talk) 12:49, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added the info you wrote on my talk page. No worries. Thanks for clarifying! --Jtalledo (talk) 15:03, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year

[edit]

Hi, XpClient

Happy New Year! Hope you enjoy it.

Oh, speaking of enjoying it, let me tell you about something funny: My colleague just told me that in his country, one the eve of the new year, everyone forgets his or her disputes or bitter arguments with his family, friends and colleagues and buries the hatchet. Hmmm! Nice thing too! But such a tradition has nothing to do with us, does it? At least I don't remember, for example, you and I ever having a dispute, bitter argument or anything like that. Still, if I remembered any grudge against anyone in the past years, I'll just speedy-delete it from my mind per the new CSD:NWYF1 criteria.

Hope you're having fun. Fleet Command (talk) 21:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks and happy new year to you too. - xpclient Talk 10:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MSDT?

[edit]

Just wondering as to why you reverted my edit that added the future MSDT article to the Template:Microsoft Windows components page.  A p3rson  01:19, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think Xpclient was right to undo your edit. The purpose of a navbox is to aid navigation. Adding a nonexistent article to navbox deters navigation. In the past, people added a lot of red links to navboxes, promising that there will be articles. However, no article ever came and the navboxes remain full of annoying red links for month and years. If you really intend to add an article, please feel free to do so. The link in the navbox can always be added. Fleet Command (talk) 01:58, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@A p3rson, it's not an article. It's a template. Templates and categories should preferably include articles that exist. See WP:Templates with red links and WP:WTAF. :-) xpclient Talk 02:21, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your redundant request for source in Microsoft Security Essentials

[edit]

Lead sections do not need redundant citation if what they say is said in the article body with appropriate citation.

Because the lead will usually repeat information also in the body, editors should balance the desire to avoid redundant citations in the lead with the desire to aid readers in locating sources for challengeable material.

Fleet Command (talk) 17:25, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! Hadn't read that. Will keep this in mind. Easier for me to remember this from amongst hundreds of guidelines when I learn it due to a mistake while editing. - xpclient Talk 05:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rebooting the Wikirelation

[edit]

Hello, Xpclient.

I have favor to ask. Pasts may be unchangeable but we can always forget and start anew. Instead of instilling bitterness and hatred into yourself, let us try again and be friends. I would like to hear your complaints about my edits. All of them. Then, we go down the chain of dispute resolution to resolve our dispute. Fleet Command (talk) 18:37, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sure. I'm always open to a fresh beginning and always ready to let the past go. Thank you and I really appreciate your repeated and sincere efforts to be friendly. I admit I haven't myself read all of WP's long guidelines and therefore my contributions often fall short of meeting some guideline or requirement. I really don't harbor any hatred or anger, although it may appear so. If you are talking about my complaints on a certain private user page, don't take them seriously at all. They aren't really substantial enough. I think that your edits are always well-intentioned. Because I'm always falling short on time to contribute to WP, I may be getting a little too upset over some of your contribs for the simple reason that I need to spend time again to go through the changes. For now, just ignore my complaints, you're doing good work. I will try to contribute to certain articles when I get time and of course everyone is free to make corrections to any inaccuracies I may be unintentionally introducing. - xpclient Talk 02:20, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A certain private user page? Wow, I wonder now... But let's not bother this. No, I saw your edits on my watch list. Your edits had the same quality that mine had when one of the Wikipedia Administrators bite me so hard (ignoring Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers). You reminded me of myself. I thought I shouldn't have done to you what others did to me and I didn't like. Fleet Command (talk) 08:13, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, dear Xpclient. Start talking about one. For example, tell me about all the differences of Windows Photo Viewer with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Also tell me how do you know them. (Don't bother with a RELIABLE source; give me unreliable ones; even your own assumptions and suspicions.) Even if they didn't get published in Wikipedia, I'll publish them elsewhere, e.g. in my blog. (I give you credit.) Fleet Command (talk) 18:27, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Internet Explorer 9 Support for OpenSearch XML

[edit]

Hey, Xpclient. You have said that IE9 does not support OpenSearch XML and have provided a source whose topic says: AnswerIE9 does not support OpenSearch XML. But when I read that source, a Microsoft MVP says that the problem is only with a certain web page (catalog.update.microsoft.com). He says:

I think you need a better source. Fleet Command (talk) 09:37, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Free rationale for File:LangBar.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:LangBar.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Microsoft Windows thin clients WinTPC vs. WinFLP

[edit]

Hi, possibly you don't like one of my modifications in History of Microsoft Windows, but just reverting everything without explanations on the talk page or at least the edit history is wrong. I undid your revert, among other things my modifications implemented a proposal on the talk page: In 2011 "thin client" is more likely WinTPC (based on Windows 7) than WinFLP (based on XP). I have no preferences how WinTPC is organized into the history, but as long as there is a section title mentioning "thin PC" WinTPC has to be covered to avoid confusions with WinFLP. –82.113.99.129 (talk) 17:57, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I guess that's settled, your organization is obvious: Strictly chronological with a flat ToC. I don't like very long flat ToCs with (almost) no subsections, therefore I tried to rearrange minor variants such as "2003 R2" or "XP + 2003 x64" as subsections of the relevant main "2003" section. And maybe that was not obvious; never mind. –89.204.137.133 (talk) 20:11, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I don't like long ToCs either but XP x64 is not bit for bit Server 2003 but a distinct variant which is XPized. :) Similarly, Server 2003 R2 includes new unique features. So subsection isn't right IMHO. - xpclient Talk 20:28, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proper use of footnotes

[edit]

You don't seem to be fond of proper referencing, are you? (Me neither; but I do it.) You often insert a space before <ref> or after </ref> which is wrong. Also, you use plain links which are prone to link rot. Why not use the Cite button on your editor's toolbar? It will help you insert a nice {{cite web}}. Fleet Command (talk) 06:31, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Henceforth, I will stop using bare URLs and insert proper citations. In case I forget out of habit, you are always there to prod me with a stick. (sighs about too much time being spent on inserting citations) :) - xpclient Talk 07:04, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! You are so kind. The last editor to whom I sent this very same notice was not as lovely as you are and therefore did not hesitate to mention exactly which part of his body I shall prod with a stick. Fleet Command (talk) 10:18, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All you do is counter-edit all my contribs and other people's contribs to delete content and damage the WP articles rather than taking the effort to enhance or correct them. There have been innumerable occasions where your pointless rewording has introduced significant technical inaccuracies. If I were administrator, I would revert all of your edits for introducing inaccuracies with the style of editing you do. - xpclient Talk 09:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:SyncToySS.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SyncToySS.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. The article Tablet PC Input Panel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails meet WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Bezel vs screen bezel

[edit]

Thanks for your message. I was working through a list of links to disambiguation pages (which are almost always unintentional as they can confuse the reader) and Bezel is a dab page. Of the options available Screen bezel seemed the most appropriate - perhaps we need an article on it as those interested are unlikely to be interested in jewellery etc.— Rod talk 14:14, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thane Janata Sahakari Bank moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Thane Janata Sahakari Bank, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
