Hmmm

This is turning into a bit of a joke: Talk:Stanisław Poniatowski (1676–1762)/GA1. I am actually going to be busy for the next two weeks (moving between continents), but perhaps you could take a look at this in a week or so and see if somebody doesn't need to be, prodded with a sharp GA-stick or such? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 22:43, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Completed

No need to worry about the Stanislaw Poniatowski GA, it has been completed. I am sorry for the unacceptable tardiness in performing this review. dci | TALK 02:39, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry from me too. I am struggling to get enough time recently to finish these off properly. Thanks for tidying up my loose ends. AIRcorn (talk) 03:11, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Joe Mullen GA review

Hey, sorry for taking so long finishing off the GA nom of this article. Busy season coupled with an epically low editing mood right now is causing me to get lazy! I believe I have addressed your concerns, however. Thanks again for the review! Resolute 03:10, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Closure?

So Metamorfosis World Tour's PR closed without any comments. Should the topic be promoted either way? Keep in mind that apparently Peer Reviews are going slow lately. GamerPro64 16:35, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Happily, I can get someone to review it. Though I'm not sure if that it does get a review it'll make it stay longer on the page and could put the GTC on hold longer. GamerPro64 23:24, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
I know that this is a difficult situation, I guess. I will work on Meta World Tour until it is GA, so you can promote the topic, if it's possible, with no worries. Actually, I am being unable to make it GA because of the new dates that are appearing. Seems like the tour isn't gonna end anytime soon. Now it has dates up to May 2013 =/ — ΛΧΣ21 23:58, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the GA review

Hey Wizardman! I just wanted to thank you for doing the GA review for Politics and Prose and for fixing the problems with it while I've been so inactive. Hopefully I'll get back to editing soon, but that was really cool how you helped to fix the problems. Nomader (talk) 17:15, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi,

I noticed that you have been working on Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20100114. These were, alas, my edits and thus the list constitutes a "wall of shame" for me. I noticed that you found and either fixed or deleted a couple of copyvios. I would like to ask you what your plan is for working on this list and how I can help in the effort. --Pseudo-Richard (talk) 18:55, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for helping move my CCI along. Hopefully we can close it out sometime in the foreseeable future. It's been a long time. Thanks again. Yours, Quis separabit? 22:30, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Wizardman, I thought you might not have seen the response to your query on this (very) old GAN nomination, which asks your advice about how to proceed. I hope you can help there. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:10, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. If I recall correctly, one of your editing interests is baseball in the Midwest. Please take a look at User talk:AutomaticStrikeout#Hank'Day and chime in if you'd have any interest in helping out on the proposed effort. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 00:22, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Jennifer Hilary and Maude Storey

Hi. If you could just take a look at the Jennifer Hilary and Maude Storey articles and make whatever changes are needed (hopefully none), Articles 21-40 at my CCI can be closed out, which is something that personally will give me some gratification. Even though I know there's a long road ahead, closing out a second section would be a symbol of movement. Thanks. Quis separabit? 16:29, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 1951 National League tie-breaker series, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bunt (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). United States v. John (1978)

Please consider reviewing the nomination of United States v. John (1978) for GA status. I have made a significant effort to make sure every talk page template {{WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America|class=}} has a assessed class, and that is how I came across this article and the nomination. --DThomsen8 (talk) 02:47, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Golden Eagle Award

Please see the talk page of the Golden Eagle Award. An entire section of the prose is lifted almost verbatim from a Google translate of the page. This is extremely concerning. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 16:23, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

I posted this matter at the ANI. I am getting to the point where I am losing patience with Tomcat7. I knew the Eckenfelder article was lifted and that's why I failed it as well. I suspect this goes beyond these two GA noms. Naphit did as well, he pointed out the Golden Eagle matter with a text bit, but then I went checking his sources... Google translate floored me when I saw it. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 16:37, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Wizardman! Hope you are having a great holiday season. I have a question for you if you have a minute. Are materials on the US Air Force website in the public domain? As these materials were prepared by Air Force personnel in perfomance of their duties, I suspect they are PD, but hope you can confirm my assumption. Here's a specific example: Robert D. Russ duplicates material found at http://www.af.mil/information/bios/bio.asp?bioID=6994. Thanks! -- Dianna (talk) 17:48, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

The trouble is that the material is not from the AFHRA website as claimed. It's from the main Air Force website at http://www.af.mil. Is that material PD, do you think? -- Dianna (talk) 18:33, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

CCI work

Hi, Wizard man! I see you are doing some incredible work with the CCIs. I've worked on a few, but find I have to take a break from it on occasion, plus I'm trying to do a bit more at CP. If you do have an energy left, I'll note that Ktr101 has a current RfA. One of the issues in this RfA is the open CCI. If you were to look at some of the entries, you might be able to provide some informed advice to the editors who are mulling over the RfA. I commented based upon the ones I did, and I asked the same of Diannaa. Obviously, we aren't going to get through them all, but perspectives from multiple reviewers should be useful information.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 18:22, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Oops, I didn't realize there was a Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Ktr101 2. I see you are active there. Thanks.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:31, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Wizardman. Would it be alright if I was allowed to help out in clearing the copyright investigations backlog? I have previously been helping out at mine, but then it was pointed out that I had been given faulty advice, so now I was wondering if I could help clear out some other incidents since I am unable to help out on mine, and I would like to help give back to those who are helping me. If you could respond at your earliest convenience, that would be great! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 20:40, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

I saw that you just passed Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

It looks to me like Hahc21 never finished the review, and in my view the Controversy section is problematic. The final sentence, "The former member rebuked that the accusations were "purely vindictive" and sought legal counsel.", is bad prose and talks in such vague generalities that it should either be struck entirely or gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Did you really think this was Good Article quality? BlueMoonset (talk) 04:24, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

I was awaiting the nom to andress some aditional concerns (and I had some personal issues that were plaguing my RL). I apologize for never closing the review, as I believe the job wasn't ready (in my view). But it's fine if Wizardman finished it off. I took so long to do it. — ΛΧΣ21 04:42, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) (edited) But Wizardman didn't finish it off; he thought you had. I agree with you that it isn't ready, and hope you'll put it first on your review list until you've completed it. I just replied on my page, asking Wizardman to please reverse it now so the review can be finished; the author will never fix it without guidance, and it's just not GA quality. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:47, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Magnetic Tower of Hanoi

Hi, about a year and a half ago I edited an article by this name, which was [subsequently deleted]. See also [this section from your talk page archives]

I've finally got around to re-editing the article and addressing the issues that were raised, specifically: I've added more references, and I've added a complete new section about another work relating to the same problem.

The revised article is [here]

I would like the article to be reconsidered. How do I go about this?

A barnstar for you

The Copyright Cleanup Barnstar
Hey Wizardman, I would like to thank you for all the hard work that you put into making sure that my copyright page was cleaned up last week, as it really meant a lot to me by how quickly you and the other editors responded. I see that you have now retired, and I had planned on giving you this earlier, but I have been on vacation for a bit. Regardless, good luck in life, and I hope to see you around! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 06:01, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Re Magnetic Tower of Hanoi

Actually, none of the sources are to the regular ToH.

Source 1 is a variation of the ToH which relates to base 3 (as does MToH)

Source 2 (concrete mathematics) refers to the exact same puzzle as MToH (though stated differently). As to your question, this is a book. I will check whether the citation is in the correct format and I will add page numbers.

Source 3 refers to the exact same puzzle as MToH (though again stated differently). This source is the basis for the new section (Markov) added at the end)

Source 4 refers to a general review of ToH variations in which MToH is mentioned.

I think that the MToH is s good example of a complex set of inter-related puzzles that can be solved quite elegantly. Much of the point of the article would get lost as just a section in ToH. Also, I think that the puzzle is sufficiently distinct from ToH. Davidm0508 (talk) 06:32, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Tomcat7 again

I saw the fun over at WT:GAN about Tomcat7 renomming after the fail. He just did it again with Ortrun Enderlein which I decided to check out. Aside from having a source that didn't back the material and some clarity issues, he just renommed it again without fixing the major issue I had. I dunno what to do, the article even after a copyedit still reads like a machine translation in parts, straight from Google translate. You reviewed it when Tomcat7 was under the name Kürbis. I do not know what to do about Tomcat7 anymore, but it is starting to worry me about his behavior even after all the discussion about it. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 18:20, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Happy New Year!

Best wishes for the New Year!
Wishing you and yours a joyous, healthful, and productive 2013!

Please accept a belated thank you for the well wishes upon my retirement as FAC delegate, and apologies for the false alarm of my first—and hopefully last—retirement; the well wishes extended me were most kind, but I decided to return, re-committed, when another blocked sock was revealed as one of the factors aggravating the FA pages this year.

Maintaining standards in featured content requires vigilance, dedication and knowledge of people like you, who are needed; you are missed in here !!!!

Somehow, somehow we never ever seem to do nothin' completely nice and easy, but here's hoping that 2013 will see a peaceful road ahead and a return to the quality and comaraderie that defines the FA process, with the help of many dedicated Wikipedians!

Clarification

To any talk page stalkers, I'm not officially retired. My fine print is meant to say that I'm done with drama. I'm no longer looking at the admin noticeboards, and as I speak I am dissuading myself from nomination-type pages as well. I'll certainly still write articles, but I'm leaving it at that. I have a few Sporting News collections I got a couple years ago to go through, so there'll be some baseball articles coming soon. Wizardman 03:21, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

I looked at this scharf article and pleased to see that he lived so long ago that his stuff should be free and most stuff that was written at the time. I noticed that on one my edits I said "badly needs reading! .... and then editting ... needs a ref per paragraph to acknowledge that this is taken from a historic source". So it may be OK??? Wizardman, I realize this isn't article writing, but I've seen comments from you recently on some of the older GANs, so I'm hoping for your advice here.

Both Gabriel.hassler, the nominator, and Samara.levine, the reviewer, were students in this class that ended in December; both last edited on Wikipedia on December 20. Another student, User:Cobiorower, appears to have done the lion's share of the editing, a fair amount subsequent to the review commentary (including a great deal from MeegsC), but the last day is again December 20. I don't know whether all the review's issues have been addressed.

Subsequent issues were raised by Atrian. The new semester started on January 14; very few of the students have returned to their articles (at least two dozen GANs were made by students in the course).

How do we go forward here? Thanks for any help you can give. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:16, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 19:55, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
