Your assignments
[edit]Hello, I assume you're the instructor behind the assignments at Pellissippi State Community College. At this point I would very strongly advise you to ask your students to abandon their contributions to the main namespace and to only grade their contributions based on their user sandboxes. Unfortunately I had to revert all the edits by your students that appeared on my watchlist at Whiskey Rebellion, one presumably accidentally adding a link to Wikipedia, because we generally don't add citations to article lead sections (additional refs in a densely sourced article do more harm than good). I found a lot more of your students and undid many of their edits in the main namespace for similar reasons. If an article is semi-protected and especially if it has a good or featured article icon on it, it is almost definitely not a good candidate for a student assignment unless the student has deep expertise in the subject in question. Additionally, it would be much easier if you could do your course through the Education program, so other editors who deal with students can advise you better and edits by your students can be more easily tracked. I'm going to make a note about your course at the education noticeboard. Graham87 06:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- I noticed the problematic edits at Whiskey Rebellion as well and agree with everything Graham87 has said. I'm not here to pile on, just wanted to say that the Education program can be really helpful to an instructor and to students. Shearonink (talk) 14:58, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- After reviewing your students' edits over the last 24 hours, I've had no choice but to partially block all of the users who have recent edits in these search results from the article namespace. They can still complete their assignments in their sandbox, but can no longer post to articles. Graham87 12:01, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I just declined an unblock request from one of your students. It's clear you have not liaised with the meta:Wiki Education Foundation. I urge you to do so as soon as possible Please see the thread at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard/Archive 21#Undeclared class making good-faith but often unhelpful edits in US history subjects. Thanks. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 02:21, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- I appreciate your comments and will instruct students to contain their work to the Sandbox only and to refrain from publishing any edits to live Wikipedia articles. Webuckpstcc (talk) 13:34, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. If it's alright with you I think I'll leave the partial blocks in place though because of the difficulty of tracking so many accounts manually. Graham87 14:45, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
