Dallas Makerspace

According to the article, when it was written, they had 1500 members, which gives them the notability of being the largest in the United States in terms of non-profit Makerspaces with a paid membership model. In contrast, other Makerspaces considered "notably large" have less than 500 members. Please see referenced article. If additional sources are needed to establish notability, please let me know. BrainDozer (talk) 00:44, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

BrainDozer I've read the sources. The best thing you could have done to establish notability for Dallas Makerspace was to find substantial coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources, and added those to the article. Two administrators have now agreed with a nomination for speedy deletion. Honestly, I think it would be better for Wikipedia to focus your efforts on a more general topic like the Maker culture article or a new Makerspace draft/userspace article instead. Going through the WP:AfC process will help ensure that a new article will not be nominated for deletion. The version of Makerspace that was redirected was insufficiently sourced. AfC can help address those issues. Good luck, Mduvekot (talk) 04:16, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Stats

Hi. We already have someone doing a parallel set of stats for us and the data they have provided already is excellent and well presented. We do not wish to publish this information just yet because we do not want the Foundation to think they don't have to do it for us. It's always important anyway to have a second set of data for comparison. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:55, 29 August 2017 (UTC) Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:55, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello KARANSUTTA, You need to understand that Wikipedia only summarizes what other people have written, but that copying other people's writing is strictly forbidden. We take copyright very seriously. You can start over though: Start by finding independent (not her, her label), reliable sources(not a tabloid, but the BBC for example) like this first and then paraphrase them in your own words. Please read Wikipedia:Your first article. Let me know if you have questions once you've read that. Good luck,Mduvekot (talk) 22:33, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

redirects

Hi you have been creating redirects for a number of articles asking the person to work on it at the target article first. The problem is that they haven't done so. I would suggest adding the information yourself in the target article before creating the redirects or proposing for deletion or adding a source yourself to the article and marking it as a stub because as it is the redirect makes no sense. thank you Domdeparis (talk) 16:48, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi Domdeparis thanks for your message. Yes, I sometimes do that as a less bitey alternative to deletion. If this was about Rampur, Chitwan, I have reverted your PROD, and provided my rationale on its talkpage. I don't immediately see any other redirect that I created that might be problematic, but if you do want to point out specific ones that you feel need to be fixed, please let me know and I'll have a look. All the best, Mduvekot (talk) 19:14, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
hi could you tell me which of the reasons in WP:RPURPOSE justifies these redirects? Domdeparis (talk) 16:45, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Domdeparis I didn't think the article was viable, there was a plausible target, there are incoming links, so it seemed like the best thing to do. I should have added {{R from more specific geographic name}}. My bad. I'm actually not sure which specific policy covers that particular template. If you really want it gone, feel free to restore the original content, by reverting my edit to make it a redirect and nominate it for deletion under some criterion that you think applies. Or do whatever else you need to do. Mduvekot (talk) 22:54, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
hi it's not it a case or wanting it gone or not it seems like a totally legitimate redirect but only if the article title is mentioned in the target. Otherwise it is impossible to know if it serves a purpose or not. This requires a search on the article title to know if it really is connected to the target. You may have already done this hence the redirect. If the town exists as a populated place then it meets WP:GEOFEAT I believe. If you made the redirect then you must have verified that this is the case so you came across a source. I think it would have been better to simply add this source rather than create an unsourced redirect that isn't mentioned in the target. When I review redirects the first thing I do is verify that it serves a purpose as per WP:RPURPOSE and this one doesn't. There is no way of knowing if this village was invented or really exists there are no sources and it is not mentioned in the target. Domdeparis (talk) 08:36, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm Kudpung. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Geckocrazy, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:09, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, Kudpung, I see you've deleted it as G3 rather than A7. I just want to make sure of one thing: do you think that marking a an article as reviewed when it is already tagged for deletion is OK as an endorsement of the nomination for deletion (similar to a Prod2 template), or should it not be marked as reviewed? Mduvekot (talk) 14:18, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
Geckocrazy was pure vandalism. It's very important to use the correct criterion other wise we get wrong category content and false stats. There is no point in double tagging/endorsing an article that is already tagged for CSD. CSD tags add 'patrolled' to the article but at the same time a 'NO_INDEX' tag. They are usually deleted within an hour or so. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:25, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Mduvekot, many thanks for your comments. I agree the page is not yet ready for prime time. However, we're getting close, and tightening up the citations and text - both- should get us there. I will continue to revise and inform when the resubmit is fully prepared.

Bongacams and List of Bitcoin affiliate programs

Hi Mduvekot,

regrading BongaCams, there was a draft article sitting for some time, and i just moved it after making some minor edits. I guess creator didn't know how to publish it. I have no affiliation with this company, i just feel that such huge website should have it's own page.

I also removed "proposed deletion" part from List of Bitcoin affiliate program after changing article a bit. I removed some of inappropriate expressions, just as you suggested. I left full explanation on talk page, but i do believe that this list can only benefit Wikipedia user. Once again, i have no affiliation whatsoever with any of listed companies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jodlokast (talkcontribs) 07:14, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Hello Jodlokast It may be entirely coincidental, but your editing history raises some questions. Consider that your first few edits were a user page (no problem), a user talk page (also no problem), adding two commas, linking to United States, adding a comma, adding a link to Tettigoniidae, changing portraitures to portraits, linking Denmark, changing topsy-turvy to confusing, adding a link to identity card, linking to Canada and the United states, all apparently randomly selected and within minutes of each other. Then you categorize LocalBitcoins ‎as E-Commerce, the next day. On September 7, with your first ten edits, and after the mandatory waiting period for autoconfirmed has passed, you find yourself looking at a draft article, (which isn't indexed, so it's a little bit curious how you found it) and you feel compelled to help user Sezhers move his draft into mainspace, even though they hadn't submitted it for review because you guessed that its creator "didn't know how to publish it", even though you didn't bother to ask if that was in fact the case. I'm not yet saying that you have been engaged in activities that are prohibited, but it certainly looks like it. I suggest that you read or re-read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure and Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. As for the bitcoin stuff, it is absolutely critical that we avoid the appearance that Wikipedia endorses, suggests, recommends or otherwise promotes bitcoin exchanges or other fintech companies. We're being inundated with spam from highly dubious cryptocurrency companies. I would suggest that you stay away from such topics unless you can contribute expert knowledge supported by independent, reliable sources. "The Complete Guide To Earning Free Bitcoin", "20 best bitcoin referral programs" and "Top 5 bitcoin affiliate programs" are anything but reliable. To suggest that our readers should trust or even use these sources for information about financial matters is doing them a great disservice. Howdy Mduvekot,

Thank you for the constructive edit and notice on my talk page. I have converted the citations, I think the way you asked, but have to tell you I am an occasional editor, I am following some content usually on the Hungarian wikipedia and editing those, but seems the wikipedia is changing pretty fast for me :) The page was originally a direct translation of the already existing Hungarian page, I just added some more info from the kuruc site, which is a terrible site, but had some citable useful info on this fine painter, whom I had the occasion to meet personally several times. I added some more citations and seems the first original citation I copied from the Hungarian page is a dead link so I removed that one. Hopefully this will be fine now. As I am not sure, I will not remove the tag myself. Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by W-v-tegetthoff (talkcontribs) 20:15, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Niels Högel

I am really still not sure on how to do this 'talk' thing. So if it is wrong, I am sorry.

I am just writing about the additional information about the medication that the German killer nurse, Niels Högel, used to kill his patients. The name of the medication is correct.

I HATE adding or altering people's pages, as they become quite possessive about it. But I just wanted to add to the story after watching a documentary on it for criminology plus I am a nurse and know of this medication.

I am sorry if I have offended you once again, but I have a lot more information on Högel if you are interested in working together on improving the page?

Redrecks I have moved your question here. WP:TALK explains how to use talk pages. Thanks for your offer. To be honest, I'm not all that interested in murderers, so I'll decline. Reliable sources report that the medication used was Gilurytmal de:Ajmalin en:Ajmaline. That it was not Allgemeine was really all I had to contribute. Mduvekot (talk) 17:39, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Both the Ajmalin, Ajmaline and Allgemeine are all the same drug and do the exact same thing anyway.

I have read and read and read about the User Talk. Every time I think I have finally got it, I manage to muck it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redrecks (talkcontribs) 17:50, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but Allgemeine is not a medication. It's inflected form of allgemein (German for general). Mduvekot (talk) 18:04, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Vexations, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 14304 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • Currently there are 532 pages in the backlog that were created by non-autoconfirmed users before WP:ACTRIAL. The NPP project is undertaking a drive to clear these pages from the backlog before they hit the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing a few today!

Technology update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation is currently working on creating a new filter for page curation that will allow new page patrollers to filter by extended confirmed status. For more information see: T175225

General project update:

  • On 14 September 2017 the English Wikipedia began the autoconfirmed article creation trial. For a six month period, creation of articles in the mainspace of the English Wikipedia will be restricted to users with autoconfirmed status. New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.
  • Before clicking on a reference or external link while reviewing a page, please be careful that the site looks trustworthy. If you have a question about the safety of clicking on a link, it is better not to click on it.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

Flagged page of Luvleen Sidhu

Hello, You flagged a page I created and I would like to know how I can make it better to fit the standards.

Hello, QUEENLOVER94 We'll get to that, but before we proceed: Have you been paid to edit that page? If this applies to you, Paid-contribution disclosure is required. Mduvekot (talk) 15:24, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
Hello, Yes I would be considered a paid contributor. How do I add that to my user page or the actual page?
Hello, @QUEENLOVER94: That's explained in the page that I linked to. Specifically under the heading How to disclose For example, you can add {{paid|employer=BankMobile|article=BankMobile}} to your user page User:QUEENLOVER94 and {{connected contributor (paid)|User1=QUEENLOVER94|U1-employer=Madeleine.hbmadv|U1-client=BankMobile}} to Talk:BankMobile Mduvekot (talk) 15:51, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Jenna Kim Jones Cite Updates

Hi Mduvekot, I apologize if you feel this change is not correct, I reviewed the Wikipedia’s citing of social media and crazy enough this one post lists all the correct information and is within the policy as far as I understand it.
I am trying to understand what the issue is in this case? Is the issue that he is her brother or that he is a dancer, At one point I did have a cite their but someone else removed it.
I just want to understand what the problem is. If it better to just removed the family part all together I can, i only left it there as it is about who the content is about?

Thank you and I am grateful for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jay.insley (talkcontribs) 18:40, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello @Jay.insley:, the issue is that you need a source that says that Chuck is brother of Jenna and works for NDT. All we had was "He goes back to work soon in the Netherlands". You cannot infer from one source that Jenna has a brother Chuck, from another source that Chuck works for NDT and then synthesize that into Chuck is brother of Jenna and works for NDT. See WP:SYNTH.Mduvekot (talk) 19:04, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you very much Mduvekot, I will remove the family section for now if and when I find a cite for that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jay.insley (talkcontribs) 19:13, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Terrell James draft

Hello Mduvekot, I'm following up on your comments of 15 September regarding the proposed new article for Terrell James: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Draft:Terrell_James.

Since then, I have continued to study comments and make edits, and now believe the draft to be approval-ready, or close to it. Starting from the beginning, the reviewers' objections have been related to,

1. Notability of the subject. I believe this to be established based on:

a) the number and prominence of the public institutions collecting her work;

b) the number and prominence of art critics and art world figures drawn to write about her (they are listed near the end of the draft, with their publication pedigrees footnoted); and

c) the honors conferred on the subject, ranging from the Texan French Alliance for the Arts' medal, to the Art League Houston's declaration of her as "Texas Artist of the Year, 2016" (with associated exhibition and gala celebration). She has received many other awards.

2. Promotional tone. I did my best to eliminate "Peacock Terms" and the taint of a promotional tone. I hope you agree they are gone, but let me know.

3. Sectioning. I studied and followed the Wikipedia outline suggestions as directly as I could.

4. In-line citations. I believe the article is thoroughly footnoted to verifiable sources.

5. Insufficient coverage. This has been fixed via citations to books, magazines and also to high quality on-line publications (such as, Glasstire.com and ArtSlant.com). The subject has been the subject of numerous published articles.

I am certain the subject is deserving of an article in Wikipedia. The rejections to date reflect my inexperience, I believe. Any comments on the article or responses to this note would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your attention,

Camo1955

Thank you Mduvekot.

It seems I can always find one. more. thing. In this case I want to mention that in keeping with WP:ARTIST there's one more point about her notability: "The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors." This is addressed in the article's section about her teaching, where her citation as a public expert on art matters (such as major artists or exhibitions) by newspapers and other media is cited/footnoted several times. Also, as described above, she has received numerous awards for her work.

Thanks again,

Camo1955
