WP Pakistan: Article Importance

I have come across some articles with little relevance which are given high importance in WP Pakistan. Some examples are Eden Grammar School, Chicken tikka, and Sehr Mahmood! There are a lot of articles articles which are either not important at all or were relevant for a short period such as the Bhurban Accord or 2002 Karachi Bus Bombing. Can you please look into it. I will fix as many as I can when time permits. Samar (Talk . Contributions) 17:56, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Sure.. I'll check such articles out over the next few days. The low importance tag is well suited for these. --lTopGunl (talk) 00:13, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Re-assessed one that was left above... keeping an eye out for others. Will run AWB sometime. --lTopGunl (talk) 17:42, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

There are more than 15K unassessed articles about Pak. I had a idea to start a contest regarding Assessment.

Please have a look at this: Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2012

Due to this contest, more then 30K articles were assessed in 1 month.

I thought that Pakistan has a good number of articles now and needs clean up like WP IND needed.

This will be beneficial for articles as well as editors as they will be able to interact with editors in their country and will learn new things and can obtain a lot of knowledge about their country.

I've been active in WP IND and I have done 3,000 assessments there so I thought that I can help you as well.

If editors agree with the idea of starting this contest, then please let me know. I'll be happy to help. Thank you and Happy editing! Yasht101 07:27, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Yasht.. this seems to be a good idea. I'll let other active editors comment on it (or start a section at the project page) and see if we have enough volunteers to get started, most are working on some thing or the other but hopefully we can get some for this. Assessments are quite helpful generally. --lTopGunl (talk) 07:32, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Okay. Just leave me a message on my talk page if you want to start the contest. I m willing to contribute. Thanks! Yasht101 07:40, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks. --lTopGunl (talk) 07:42, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
PS: I have left a message on WP PAK talk page. Yasht101 07:42, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
I was about to do that too... I've linked this discussion there. --lTopGunl (talk) 07:45, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Princely states and the option of independence

you're a student right? you probably have access to a good library then. could you please try to get hold of this book [1]? hodson clearly shows that mountbatten and nehru prevented the independence option due to their fear of a fragmented india, thereby revealing their motives. i don't have the exact quotes (check page 361), hence, this book needs to be read. here's another useful source[2].-- altetendekrabbe  08:33, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Yes, sure I'll check my library for it. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:41, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Not in my library, which is mostly engineering related, but I'm looking elsewhere. I've got to read this since I'm in the dispute too. I'll quote if I find an online/offline full version. --lTopGunl (talk) 12:12, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
ok, thanks. it's a well-known fact that hyderabad, kalat and kashmir were not allowed to chose independence. probably many books out there covering the subject. this book [3] mentions this fact but not nehru's motives.-- altetendekrabbe  15:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "India, Afghanistan and Pakistan". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 19 April 2012.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Taliban/Pakistan

whats your take on the situation? why should Pakistan be singled out when several nations have literally reshaped whole continents through supporting terrorists and violent regimes? why not mention these activities on the other nations main page? as you are probably aware most people on the talk page challenged this inclusion yet Jcala seems hell bent on adding it considering USA made the taliban also I think everyone with half a brain should oppose this idiotic taliban rant Ruffruder0 (talk) 11:08, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

I think this should be dealt with peace fully with discussion instead of escalating. We're working on promoting Pakistan to featured article, so it might get disrupted. Can you email me at [redacted]? From a non-personal address if you like, I'll reply from a permanent email once you do. --lTopGunl (talk) 11:19, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
I know your edit style your very calm and neutral but your facing highly anti pakistani editors who are hell bent on distorting history and pushing there pov into pakistan related articles we must be firm when tackling pov pushers if you give them an inch they want a mile in return Jcala has not even asnwered my question this shows how weak his argument really is anyways I will email you peace and love Ruffruder0 (talk) 11:31, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Accusations

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

Since [4] is not your first accusation, and you have been previously warned, I am requiring you to support that accusation or retract it immediately. Gimmetoo (talk) 18:36, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

As you failed to reply, your statement has been removed. Gimmetoo (talk) 18:41, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
What you stated was synthesis... my comment was on your reasons for inclusion and hence not an accusation... and that usually happens when you back up content without providing sources or quotations on which you base your arguments. I firmly stand by my first (and only) accusation that you editwarred. and I don't think I really need to provide diffs to support that. What doesn't sum up for me is, what warning... btw, this is your only warning, don't refactor or remove my comments again. --lTopGunl (talk) 18:51, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
You have restored your statmeent without support. In my view that constitutes talk page disruption and is a personal attack. Restoration of personal attacks will not be tolerated. You are required to fully support your accusation or retract it. You have also inapprorpiately templated a regular. Gimmetoo (talk) 18:56, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
It is not a personal attack. It was a valid comment on your analysis. So stop over reacting. Though I am against templating regulars myself, but in this case I would like to point out WP:TTR to you because you don't seem to understand a simple comment. Don't remove it again. --lTopGunl (talk) 18:59, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
No it was not a valid commentary as stated. You are required to support it or retract it. Gimmetoo (talk) 19:00, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Well I disagree, and I have supported it by linking to WP:SYNTH which details over this. Also see WP:BURDEN to get some idea on how things need to be supported. I'll not indefinitely discuss with you because you feel bad about me pointing out that your criteria for inclusion is synthesis. That is not a personal attack by any means and I don't think further replying here will take it anywhere esp. when you removed the comment (a violation in itself) without waiting for a response you requested. --lTopGunl (talk) 19:04, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
First, this is on a talk page, not the article. Do you understand WP:SYNTH? Second, have you bothered to get the source in question, yet? Do you have any support for your accusation whatsoever? I consider your statement a personal attack. You have been informed, so your refusal to support or retract makes your statement a conscious, standing personal attack. Gimmetoo (talk)
Now this is what I call a personal attack [5], as compared to a discussion about what you propose is original research/synthesis [6] (Yes, on a talk page but about the content). We're done here. --lTopGunl (talk) 20:24, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Family tree

I've got an idea, how about preserving the family tree at Jinnah_family#Family_Tree into template form (i.e. at Template:Jinnah family) similiar to how it's been done for Template:Bhutto family and Template:Zardari family. The reason being that family trees on South Asian articles don't usually last very long without being vandalised a couple of times every month.... I've seen it firsthand. And this is definitely a high-profile article. Mar4d (talk) 13:59, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Is there a reason the vandals won't get to the templates and do the same (or atleast add patent nonsense if they don't know how to edit? --lTopGunl (talk) 14:01, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, I created Template:Zardari family and Template:Bhutto family for the same reason...they used to get vandalised when they were in their respective article (especially the Zardari family tree). But after I put them in template form, there's been zero vandalism as far as the family trees are concerned; simply because 95% of vandals don't know how to edit the template page or can't be bothered lol. Mar4d (talk) 14:03, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Lol, seems a good idea then.. --lTopGunl (talk) 14:08, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
 Done. Mar4d (talk) 14:16, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Actually this was an elegant solution. Want see some one's face when all they find this is a single line to vandalize, which will at most disable the transclusion and can be reverted. Don't think most vandals will even know that it is in the template name space. --lTopGunl (talk) 14:20, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
👍 Mar4d likes this. :) Mar4d (talk) 14:23, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Request for mediation accepted

The request for formal mediation of the dispute concerning India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, in which you were listed as a party, has been accepted by the Mediation Committee. The case will be assigned to an active mediator within two weeks, and mediation proceedings should begin shortly thereafter. Proceedings will begin at the case information page, Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, so please add this to your watchlist. Formal mediation is governed by the Mediation Committee and its Policy. The Policy, and especially the first two sections of the "Mediation" section, should be read if you have never participated in formal mediation. For a short guide to accepted cases, see the "Accepted requests" section of the Guide to formal mediation. You may also want to familiarise yourself with the internal Procedures of the Committee.

As mediation proceedings begin, be aware that formal mediation can only be successful if every participant approaches discussion in a professional and civil way, and is completely prepared to compromise. Please contact the Committee if anything is unclear.

Do you want some help?

Hello TopGun, I notice you've been getting involved in a number of different scraps lately, especially with he-who-shall-not-be-named. Even though we've never talked, I could perhaps step in and help you out with a few. I know you're a generally good-faith editor, but I would hate to see you blocked again over trivial issues. I think it may be a good idea if you came to me when you're feeling frustrated or heated with any issue, and not let your wiki-anger get the better of you. If there are any conflicts you get into, I'd like to know about them and help mediate them at the bestest of my ability. My talk page is always open, as you know. What do you say? Soviet King :  ?  09:03, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your offer. Well, technically I can't be in any disputes mentioned above because an IBAN is in place. In relevance to the IBAN, issues only occur when there are violations. Actually I've not been blocked since the IBAN and 1RR were enforced (and the only blocks in the log are of editwar mostly 1RR violations before even I was put under one). As for content disputes... I've been following DR usually to get past them without violations. I can't do anything about WP:POINT disputes that keep getting brought up by another editor after being resolved, it is on formal mediation now. But thanks for your offer, I'll ask you whenever I need any help and don't hesitate to drop in any advice. :) --lTopGunl (talk) 09:13, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
You are welcome TopGun. But the point remains is that the issue between you and he-who-shall-not-be-named and the 1RR is still a bit of a concern. I agree that there are some trouble makers up there, but still just avoid reverting too much if in a content dispute and just try to stay away from he-who-shall-not-be-named. The more you stay away from him/her, the better your life on Wikipedia shall be. Just notify me or an admin if he-who-shall-not-be-named is still trolling and screwing about, and if you are in a content dispute, use the talk page OK? you are a great guy, but you have the tendency to lose your temper a little bit too much. Just stay calm and notify me/admin if something's wrong, OK? Again, thanks, I am happy to help you out. Soviet King :  ?  10:11, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
I can not revert more than once thanks to the 1RR so that won't be much of a problem. I don't loose my temper... just file a quick report because there's a trend to reject reports as stale even when it is obvious I'll have to end up back reporting again esp. with my 1RR being baited by first adding content and then reverting me again.. so much for the 1RR. For the IBAN, a detailed discussion about IBAN might get me violate it so I'll not comment any further on that. Thanks for offering to help. --lTopGunl (talk) 10:17, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Your version

Is the below your suggestion you want to stand by?

"Pakistan's international relations have been affected by allegations of support to the Taliban and its response to these accusations."

JCAla (talk) 13:04, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

It was just a suggestion and open to discussion... so I won't have any issues if you want to discuss on these lines. However, I've burnt out on the lengthy debate and will not like to continue it there. If you want to put this in an RFC do add a "completely oppose inclusion" option too. Actually better to ask an uninvolved editor frame it, since I even disagree with your conclusion of their being a consensus at all. --lTopGunl (talk) 13:12, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Who is the mediator you asked to look over the RFC? I'd like to talk to him also. JCAla (talk) 15:28, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Whenaxis [7]. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:33, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello.
I noticed a copyright infrigment in this voice and, then, used the appropriate template (and all the procedures connected to it). Then, the user responsible of the first version with copyright infrigment has simply reverted the page without removing the infrigment...

What can I do to stop the violation of copyright from [8]? I noticed also that the username who reverted the page remember the staff of the channel... --Gce (talk) 15:59, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi, you can revert him back if you are sure that it is a copy right violation and it will not be considered editwar on your part. If this persists you can report at WP:ANI, revision deletion may also be asked for series copy vios. Thanks. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:22, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
I've also left him WP:COI notices. --lTopGunl (talk) 17:09, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

In the voice I found a section "Copyright permission" with this link. Mah... How can I do in this situation? It seems that the user has an authorization, but there aren't OTRS tickets or similar to confirm this. I will talk with the competent WikiProject to resolve the situation (also with a copyright permission a voice can't be un-neutral). --Gce (talk) 22:06, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

If the appropriate permission is present, you can no longer call it a copyvio. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello Good Editors

As this is my first contribution to WIKI I'm quite new to the procedures tho I have followed the instruction in issuing the copyright permission to the best of my understanding. I'm working as a Webmaster in PMC (www.pmc.tv) and thus gives me full authorization on posting or distributing any information that regards to PMC. I have also created a link to our website going to the Wiki page.

We were trying to reach WIKI admin as i write this. I can be further reach thru our official company email : admin|at|pmc.tv

I hope my limited knowledge of procedure will not hinder me from contributing information which we believed will help Persian Artist specially those who is just starting in the industry knowing how hard it is for them to do so with the current Iran economy status.

--Pmcwebmaster —Preceding undated comment added 07:48, 18 April 2012 (UTC).

Thanks, I've left you appropriate notes on your talk page. Please see WP:COI for further conflicts that you may have inspite of copyright permissions. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Templates

Okay, I've started a rough draft at Template:Pakistan Wikipedia quick links. If you've got time, take a look through and propose suggestions/improvements. There's still a ton of stuff (i.e. links missing) that I'll add in time. Meanwhile, feel free to edit it and make corrections. If you think something needs improvement, just ping me on my talk page. Once we're done, I guess this can go into the outreach template in collapsed form. For the colour, I've filled in with white while the thin outline is "Pakistan green" (#006600). If you don't like it, let me know..... I've been sort of over-experimenting with colours lately lol (check out Template:Coke Studio) :) Mar4d (talk) 16:36, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Let me check. Btw, after reading Pakistan green I found out that the Pakistani flag article actually misrepresents the shade... can you make an edit or put up the notice at the project? --lTopGunl (talk) 23:12, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Good work with the templates. I've coloured only the Pakistan Movement template yet and that actually felt like a good idea as it catches the context (same with the coke studio). Yeah, put it at the end of the outreach template in collapsed form whenever you're done with it. I'll drop in if I think of adding something. --lTopGunl (talk) 23:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Really? Could you indicate where's the misrepresentation on the flag article? Btw just as you mentioned Template:Pakistan Movement, I recall that the green used there is not the Pakistani green but rather a slightly different shade (#00800). Might be appropriate to update it with this shade, due to the context and relevance of the colour. Mar4d (talk) 16:38, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
See the flag itself in the infobox. It is a lighter shade. About the template... that seemed catchy, but try changing, if it looks too monotonous, you can always revert. --lTopGunl (talk) 21:24, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
