AfD nomination of Jon Courtney

[edit]

An editor has nominated Jon Courtney, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jon Courtney and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 14:59, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your question

[edit]

Hello Darkfourth - in answer to your question, I can only say that there's no reason that that should happen, unless the page you're trying to edit is semi-protected. Which page is it? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 16:56, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pure Reason Revolution

[edit]

Sorry for labeling it as vandalism, its one of the default twinkle settings and i hit it without thinking. I removed it because it's unreferenced, unverified and unlikely; i've checked various sites and search engines, neither PRR (who i am an enormous fan of) or NEARfest itself has any info on such a release, all the bands who DID release albums from NEARfest did it ages ago and i doubt they'd release a live album at the same time as the TDT followup (it'd muddy the waters). Thanks for the comment; i take it from the username you're a large fan as well, so i'd be interested to see if you have any info/comments to add. thanks! PRR

[edit]

I'd just like to say thanks for your edits of PRR-related articles, clearing my spelling mistakes and such up :) Ironholds 15:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

haha, no problem. I've posted a reply to your comment on the Jon Courtney talk page as well (i thought it'd be a bit silly to repeat it here in case you've already seen it when you get this). I can tell from the username you're a particularly big fan; going to the Barfly gig? Ironholds 19:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the unofficial-but-not-quite-unnofficial forum. Nothing to do with the band whatsoever, except various band members/managerial people sometimes post there. SO independent :P. Were you at the water rat? the sound was awful and i dont know if that's because the mixing bloke has cloth ears (my band had problems when we were there) or if it's a general problem. Are they normally good live? could just've been the combination of no lights/decent sound/room to move. Ironholds 20:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Where were you? i was literally right at the front in front of jon; i was lucky enough to nick his setlist. Ironholds 13:17, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, it was your lot throwing the signs on stage! i wondered what they said. Were you one of the group who seemed to know jamie? Ironholds 19:29, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, that makes sense :). Yeah, bullits would've been nice. The original intention craft would've been good; i'm a bit pissed that a couple of songs (golden clothes/in aurelia) i didnt know at the time and couldnt appreciate :(. Ironholds 19:36, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic :D. I loved the little pink floyd reference (saying "welcome to the machine" before the song. I really need to pick up that bootleg recording, it'll have Gloaming (the new song). Ironholds 13:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, thanks! i was planning on finding a less-than-legal method, although i think this may be a bit iffy anyhoo :) Ironholds 22:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Jon Courtney

[edit]

I have nominated Jon Courtney, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jon Courtney (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. [edit]

No, found them on WP:COMMONS; suprised nobody had used them before. I'll be taking some of my own at the next gig they play (forgot to take my D40 to the lastn) so i'll upload them as well. Oddly enough one of the people at the London wikipedia meetup looked exactly like chloe :S. Ironholds 13:39, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We have them monthly in london; you're (of course) welcome to come along. The London one is the most established; it's been going since 2004. It takes the format of an extended lunch (by "extended" I mean it finally broke up around 8:30 PM last time) although most people leave after about 2.Ironholds 13:53, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PRR updates

[edit]

Hey, just saw your updates; good work! Going to the Cargo gig? Ironholds (talk) 17:57, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it is! Pissed off though; I had tickets to the gig, travelled down to london to see it.. and then fell mankily ill :S. Ironholds (talk) 19:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ooh, what new ones did they play? DXM and the gloaming I assume. "surround sound"? No idea what the real name is, but a decent 5.1 system seems to be the general theme of the lyrics :P. I'll be picking up the DVD then; mebbe at some point they'll do an Oceansize style thing and play the whole album in some warehouse. Ironholds (talk) 19:38, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh, nice! and there was me thinking they'd done away with the complex song titles :P. Ironholds (talk) 19:21, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mind using some sources? Ironholds (talk) 15:25, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I happen to know for a fact that the material in the DJ section is correct, it's hard to find sources to establish the Courtney-pseudonym link though I think it's fairly clear even to someone who isn't familiar with courtney/prr. I've removed the third one cos I was only 90% sure about that one. I think the remaining two should be left because they help with notability and also I've added sources which validate the claims of what Courtney has done with the pseudonyms. If you really feel they must go then I understand but I think it's a shame because it is definitely accurate.Thedarkfourth (talk) 21:35, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
btw, I notice someone (defs not me!!!) has already redirected the page KC Blitz to Jon Courtney. I think it's a widely known fact.Thedarkfourth (talk) 21:39, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You should talk to the Wikimedia Foundation before making further requests for surveys.

Cambridge fresher's fair

[edit]

Hello! I've bid a stall on behalf of the Cambridge University Wikipedia Society at the Cambridge University fresher's fair, 2-3 October. If you are around, it would be great if you can come and help by staffing the stall for a few hours!

The fair will run, roughly, from 9am to 7pm on the 2nd, and 9am to 4pm on the 3rd; details are yet to be confirmed.[1] You certainly won't be expected to stay the whole day unless you really want to! It'll be a sign-up stall for the campus Wikipedia Society, and we'll give out Wikimedia freebies at the event to promote awareness for Wikipedia-editing and Wikimedia UK.

Please contact me if you're interested in helping, even if it's just a few hours. Thanks! (Apologies for double-posting if you've seen this message on wikimediauk-l already!) Deryck C. 22:28, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! That's awesome that Wikipedia has made it to the fresher's fair - unfortunately I've now graduated from Cambridge and am living in London. I'm thinking of heading back some time next month to see friends, I'll see if I can time it to allow me to be there to help at the fair, though I'm not promising anything as it is a weekday! I'll let you know, but I hope it's a success if I can't make it! All the best Thedarkfourth (talk) 22:54, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Amber Light has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet notability requirements for music

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Yworo (talk) 21:52, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think your addition to this article is generally good but I think it needs better references; I would put the uni website as an external link instead. I think mentioning the Uni in the USA would be helpful. And I am not sure where this section belongs within the whole article. The reason the pictures are on the right at the top is because the table of contents is rather long; maybe one solution is to move the TOC to the right, nix the photos, and truncate the TOC too, perhaps to the third level at most.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 22:20, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks for this! What kind of references do you think would improve it? What do you mean by "mentioning" Uni in the USA? And what kind of external link - in the text or in the external links section at the bottom? Regarding the pictures - I don't think it's a problem to have pictures at the top right, but I think they should be more relevant to college admissions! At the moment it's just random pictures (like the thinker) that have nothing to do with it. But yes I agree maybe the TOC could be truncated.Thedarkfourth (talk) 10:19, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. How about putting this in your browser and seeing what you get:--Tomwsulcer (talk) 12:52, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"uni in the usa" (site:thesun.co.uk OR site:guardian.co.uk OR site:telegraph.co.uk OR site:independent.co.uk OR site:dailynewspaper.co.uk OR site:dailymail.co.uk OR site:thetimes.co.uk OR site:bbc.co.uk OR site:orange.co.uk OR site:bbc.co.uk/news/ OR site:belfasttelegraph.co.uk OR site:express.co.uk OR site:megastar.co.uk OR site:economist.com OR site:epolitix.com OR site:expatica.co.uk OR site:thisislondon.co.uk OR site:ft.com/home/uk OR site:itn.co.uk OR site:theliberal.co.uk OR site:mirror.co.uk)
About pictures in College admissions.. yes perhaps more relevant ones can be found but it is sometimes slow-going slogging through Wikimedia Commons. I think having some pictures are better than having a screenful of only text which can sometimes seem intimidating; wondering what your preference is here. About links: yes perhaps one in the text and one at the bottom in the external links section would be helpful for British students interested in studying in the US. And wondering is there a better way to write the subsection heading so it is clear that it is about foreign students applying to the US.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 12:52, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I've made the changes you were suggesting (I think) - let me know what you think. Personally, I think the heading "international applications" makes it perfectly clear what it's about, but feel free to suggest alternatives. CheersThedarkfourth (talk) 14:10, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I suppose the subhead title is workable. Would you mind if I copyedit the section a bit later on.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 15:47, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all - let me know when you have, thanks!Thedarkfourth (talk) 16:04, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:21, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I am part of a group called the New Page Patrol and we check new articles to make sure they follow Wikipedia's basic rules. The Budd article does (and is well-written too), so no more was necessary beyond the automatic message above. In fact, I was wondering if the article is titled properly, as something like "Budd (tailoring company)" might be closer to WP's titling conventions, but I would not consider that to be a crucial issue for now. Keep up the good work! ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 20:25, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
