Say it isn't so!

I was just coming by to give you long-overdue thanks for the thoughtful Christmas greeting when I saw the retirement banner. I've been in the same position many a time and I hope you'll reconsider. Please don't go.  :( Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 16:47, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

For now, let him rest; "For in dreams, we enter a world entirely our own. We can swim in the deepest oceans, and glide over the highest cloud..." Orphan Wiki 23:04, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
True enough and a great quote to boot. Rest up, my friend. Come back when and if you feel better. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Here, here! :) Very best wishes, Orphan Wiki 19:45, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Spend a nice itme in hibernation. I wasn't expecting this, but later you might come one as a new force. Nice seeing you, and hope to do so again. Buggie111 (talk) 21:46, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Back

Goodness, so much stress has been suddenly relieved over the last week I can't even begin to describe it. Seems like every time I try to retire or take a Wikibreak because of real life issues building up, something always happens that manages to cut that down to reasonable levels. I retired because I had lost interest in Wikipedia, and, more importantly, I needed to focus on my schoolwork. See, originally, in order to get my Associates Degree, which was recently discontinued in my institution, I would have needed to get over 1000 credit-hours worth of classes taken in 2 terms, almost double the normal amount of credit-hours per term, which is 360... an ungodly burden by any standard.

The teachers, and students of course, were originally told that the cut-off date to get the degree was to be the summer of this year, after which one would be dropped. And after being told about a week ago that the math class on my outline was incorrect, that a more advanced class was supposed to be taken to get it, I was sure that I would literally be doing nothing but schoolwork every waking weekday moment for the next 6 or 7 months, and I probably won't learn anything, because I'll be trying to get things done so fast that nothing would sink in. But, moments later, I was told that there apparently was a miscommunication about the date.

I instantly started to think "Oh no, let me guess, it's even sooner?". But, and I was sure I felt a little like I was going to faint when I heard this, the cut-off date is not this summer, but the summer of next year, and has been confirmed. So instead of having only 2 measly terms to get in over 1000 credit-hours of classes, studying late, and wondering how in the hell I'm going to do all of these classes in such a short period, let alone paying for them, there's now a plentiful 6 terms to get it all done.

An already large, and still sharply-increasing burden has suddenly shrunk massively over the course of less than a week. Therefore, as you all can probably assume by now, I can come back to edit once again. The Thing T/C 02:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Your version of huggle

Just wondering.. Why not implement your changes in your version of huggle to the main huggle development? ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 16:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

All it does really is allow me to change the project config file of my version without affecting everybody else. Pretty much the one thing I do with that is change the preload to 10... if you want to do that, then by all means. The Thing T/C 00:10, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

The Special Barnstar

The Special Barnstar
I hereby award you this Special Barnstar because nothing can sum up your fantastic contributions to Wikipedia, and the gratitude of the community to your expertise and actions in improving Wikipedia. Thank you, and I, and many others, thank you so much for your amazing contributions. Sad to see you go. Hope you come back, even as a shadow, sometime in the future... 123Hedgehog456 21:36, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

You're...

...not forgotten. Hope you're doing well. Herostratus (talk) 18:08, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

You are not forgotten.

I just heard of your retirement. I just returned from my own....You were the best and most prolific vandal that I have ever seen. Thank you for your service, you are not forgotten my friend.--SKATER Is Back 14:26, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Just stopping by to say hello.

So... I'm just stopping by to say hello, and to update on how I'm doing. I'm doing great in real life, I have a job now, still going to college. A little of my spare time goes towards playing StarCraft II, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, things like that. I'm still active on IRC, I still do whatever little is required to maintain my channels and such.

I just want to let you all know, I still watch over this place from time to time. Occasionally I'll find a 4chan raid thread, and clean up the mess that another person happened to miss... seems like they're getting more active recently with the raids and such. Now the raid threads have primarily moved to /v/, and there they concentrate on "being subtle", so their vandalism is less obvious that /b/'s.

I'm still too busy to, and am not planning on coming back full time, in fact I'm only on my alternate account to post this message, nothing more. I just wanted to let you know, that I do sometimes miss this place, and am grateful to have had chance to participate in such a project.

Best wishes...

For shame

You did a lot of good work; I do hope your retirement isn't permanent. bobrayner (talk) 13:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

For all intents and purposes, it is permanent. I don't intend to blame or offend anyone, but my last RFA pretty much wrecked my motivation. That, plus real life responsibilities have made it so that I have no desire to edit anymore, nevermind the time to edit. The only reason I saw this was because I happened to stop by this page today, lol. I do edit on this account in a limited fashion, but I won't be vandal-fighting anywhere near the amount that I used to do, if I even do it at all. If I do, it's probably testing out Huggle or something, for the benefit of everyone else who uses it. --Vandalism destroyer 22:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Files missing description details

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

Invitation to look at edits on IQ reference chart

I see the article IQ reference chart has been tagged for expert review since October 2012. As part of a process of drafting a revision of that article in my user sandbox, I am contacting all Wikipedians who have edited that article since early 2009 for whom I can find a user talk page.

I have read all the diffs of all the edits committed to the article since the beginning of 2009 (since before I started editing Wikipedia). I see the great majority of edits over that span have been vandalism (often by I.P. editors, presumably teenagers, inserting the names of their classmates in charts of IQ classifications) and reversions of vandalism (sometimes automatically by ClueBot). Just a few editors have referred to and cited published reliable sources on the topic of IQ classification. It is dismaying to see that the number of reliable sources cited in the article has actually declined over the last few years. To help the process of finding reliable sources for articles on psychology and related topics, I have been compiling a source list on intelligence since I became a Wikipedian in 2010, and I invite you to make use of those sources as you revise articles on Wikipedia and to suggest further sources for the source on the talk pages of the source list and its subpages. Because the IQ reference chart article has been tagged as needing expert attention for more than half a year, I have opened discussion on the article's talk page about how to fix the article, and I welcome you to join the discussion. The draft I have in my user sandbox shows my current thinking about a reader-friendly, well sourced way to update and improve the article. I invite your comments and especially your suggestions of reliable sources as the updating process proceeds. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 20:38, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Request to take part in a survey

I am Piotr Konieczny, a fellow Wikipedian (User:Piotrus) and a researcher of Wikipedia (http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=gdV8_AEAAAAJ). I am currently (in collaboration with WMF) embarking on a project trying to understand why the most active Wikipedia contributors (such as yourself) may reduce their activity, or retire. We have a growing understanding of why an average editor may do so (see http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Former_Contributors_Survey_Results), but we have a very limited understanding of why the top editors would limit their contributions. Yet it is the top editors like yourself who contribute most of Wikiepdia's content, thus understanding this is of vital concern to Wikipedia's project future.

I am contacting you because you are among the top Wikipediana by number of edits, yet your editing activity shows a decline. I would very much appreciate if you would take a minute and answer the following four short questions. Please note this is not a mass email; I am contacting only few dozen of editors like yourself, and each response is extremely valuable. Your response will not be made public, and your privacy will be fully respected.

If you would like to help out in this project and take part in a very short survey, please send me a wikiemail, so that I can send you an email with the survey questions. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:37, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
