Five

[edit]

Has anyone noticed your edit to Five (TV)?? Georgia guy 23:00, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know :S TheTallOne 23:01, 4 February 2006 (UTC) (Just to say I read the post below)[reply]

I did, but I won't revert it anymore. I was under the impression that Wikipedia does not advertise or endorse other organisations or their products. If British TV channels have articles on Wikipedia, with their names typed on the basis of their branding alone (i.e. advertising), then why are these same articles not typed with the following displayed as: "BBC ONE", "BBC TWO", "itv1", "4", and so on? The same could be said for articles on any other organisation or product. RobWill80 01:29, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about iPod or adidas? TheTallOne 11:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, but I'll get to that in a moment. The reason I had for renaming the Five article, was that Five don't use a small case 'f' outside of branding (e.g. they call it Five in their press releases). Independent sources also don't use it either (e.g. newspaper articles and many TV listings call it Five). The same applies where organisations and products do use a stylised name outside of branding - iPods, adidas, eBay, etc. (Press releases and newspapers type them as iPod, adidas, eBay, and so on). EDITED: I take back the comment that was here. See below. RobWill80 18:40, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is just sarcasm...nevermind

From Wiktionary: shut up

(Informal) Said to people to stop them talking or making noise. Generally used to insult, to command attention, or to convey urgency, but is sometimes used lightheartedly by teens or among close friends.

I'm a teen and I use it in everyday conversation - I'm sorry if you took offence. TheTallOne 16:15, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay. I'm sorry for taking it the wrong way. :) RobWill80 18:40, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copy vio

[edit]

I did not upload any images to wikipedia. I used the 6N site as a source, it does not state copyright. I did not copy and paste the articles, I used only a few sentences and there are differences between their sentences and mine. The articles were always intended to be further edited.

I suggest that calling such things copy violation is extreme, I doubt that copyright could be argued to apply to individual sentences on work that is not specifically copyrighted especially when the sentences are part of a much longer text such as the Andrew Sheridan article.

I've read the five pillars. They say nothing about not having similar sentences in wiki and primary sources.GordyB 02:21, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you read this, it specifically says a few sentences taken from a website does not count as a copyright issue.GordyB 02:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The AIC map

[edit]

Looks good, except the West Bank and Gaza Strip names need to be switched. Thanks. ←Humus sapiens ну? 13:19, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. --TheTallOne 11:26, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This has been closed as kept in December. Do you want to renominate? In that case you need to use {{afdx}}, which adds a (2nd nomination) to the header. ~ trialsanderrors 19:49, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Checking the article, turn out it was moved to Celebrity Big Brother 2007 (UK) and your nomination is just for a redirect, which should go here: WP:RfD. ~ trialsanderrors 19:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, TheTallOne. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Stamos mullet.jpg) was found at the following location: User:TheTallOne. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 09:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Taskforce

[edit]

Please feel free to assign yourself tasks from the list of unassigned tasks at Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. Arranging assignments is too much work for me to do by myself. We have a large backlog of unassigned tasks and there is probably something in there that will interest you. RJFJR 22:17, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:MorrisbyProfileCover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MorrisbyProfileCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 18:14, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Morrisby Logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 23:33, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
