Question from Samboadu (21:56, 24 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi and thank you for time. How many edits can i do in a day ? Secondly too i normally get this bots thing telling to try in minutes later --Samboadu (talk) 21:56, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samboadu! I am not sure what bot you are referring to, but you can make as many edits as you want in a day. My busiest months early on in my time editing Wikipedia, I made over 3000 in a single month! What message do you get when you're talking about a bot telling you to try a few minutes later? Can you give me an example to see if I can help narrow it down? TheSandDoctor Talk 00:49, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So anytime i edit and I try to to publish the changes, it sometimes tells me that i cant save it and that i should try in few minutes time, warning me of going to fast with edits Samboadu (talk) 01:42, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an anti-abuse measure, you are limited from performing this action too many times in a short space of time, and you have exceeded this limit. Please try again in a few minutes. If you are attempting to run a bot or semi-automated script, please read and understand our bot policy, then request approval. Users who run unauthorized bot scripts may lose their editing privileges.
The above message is what i get when i edit more.. this is what i was saying earlier Samboadu (talk) 15:35, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Polarmailbabe (17:10, 29 December 2024)

[edit]

Greetings, TheSandDoctor. I want to edit a page, citing an article in The New Yorker magazine, November 18, 2024. This is my first attempt at editing. Which editor do you recommend (Visual vs Source), and where should I go for help in making the citation? --Polarmailbabe (talk) 17:10, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Polarmailbabe! The visual editor is probably the best way when starting out -- and it is still what I prefer when it comes to doing most ref work. I would recommend reading up on Help:VisualEditor#Adding a new reference for guidance on how to add a new reference using the visual editor. TheSandDoctor Talk 07:17, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Polarmailbabe (17:32, 29 December 2024)

[edit]

I have another question already, as I have gone to the page and considered again how to edit it. The last line, and most recent update, states: "The instrument remains in use for Sunday services while awaiting further restoration.[1][2] " This is now only HALF true, as the organ stayed in the church till February of 2024. I am reluctant to over-write anything, but it makes more sense now to do so, something like "The instrument REMAINED in use in the church until .....", and follow with a brief synopsis of where it went, and for what purpose (repair and reconstruction). --Polarmailbabe (talk) 17:32, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Polarmailbabe: do you have a reliable source that confirms when the organ was no longer in the church? Is it that New Yorker piece? So long as you have a reliable source for it like the New Yorker etc., you can update it. If you're feeling leery on it, feel free to link your source here & I'll take a look and let you know what I think or lend a hand. TheSandDoctor Talk 07:19, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Dimitri.writes (11:28, 9 January 2025)

[edit]

Hi TheSandDoctor,

Thank you for your work in ensuring the quality of content put forth on Wikipedia.

I’m glad to have you as a mentor and grateful for your willingness to guide editors like me. If you have a moment, I’d really value your feedback on a change I proposed at the bottom of this page: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Talk:SoundHound

Thanks so much for your time and support!

- Dimitri.writes --Dimitri.writes (talk) 11:28, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Dimitri.writes: Commented. From what I understand, the changes you proposed were already implemented, correct? TheSandDoctor Talk 18:56, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSandDoctor: Thank you for your feedback! I've only proposed changes and haven't implemented them yet, as I am carefully reviewing this part, exploring best practices and examples to ensure the best decision is made for this major edit. I will also use secondary sources instead of press releases where possible, as recommended. Again, thanks so much for looking into this! - Dimitri.writes (talk) 08:12, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jackal Archives (20:33, 10 January 2025)

[edit]

Afternoon. Thanks for volunteering to help out newbies like me! Do you by any chance watch Late Night with Seth Meyers - specifically its segment called Corrections? It's difficult to explain but it's way more than a segment. I truly believe it deserves its own page but I'm having a hard time proving it. I'm happy to provide more details but it's become its own absurdist thing.

Thanks! --Jackal Archives (talk) 20:33, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jackal Archives: I admittedly do not. Do you know if the Corrections segment has received significant media attention outside of the broader show? Can you point me to your [[WP:3SOURCES]|3 best sources]]? We'll go from there. TheSandDoctor Talk 18:57, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jasii888 on Amalia Rubin (01:51, 11 January 2025)

[edit]

It’s not letting me edit whenever I try it just say biography then blablal --Jasii888 (talk) 01:51, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jasii888: I don't understand. What is the specific error message that you are receiving? Or do you just not know how to edit a page more generally? If you don't know how to edit a page more generally, please see WP:TWA for guidance on how to contribute to wikipedia. I would also suggest trying the VisualEditor if you are just seeing Wikitext.
