I was surprised to see the article now being flagged for not showing importance and I need to understand why this is. There is online evidence that many other RS exist that are not available online and it should be noted when the translation shows Alternative Press this is a wrong literal translation of a publishing company name connected to "La Stampa" newspaper not self publishing.

The following individually should be enough for his inclusion and collectively it is seems very clear notability.

  • 1) He arguably was the top player in scrabble in Italian.
  • 2) He had a definite impact in backgammon where he is one of the world's top experts and also an excellent player. He is responsible for innovations to the games tournament play introducing new format of pairs play. Significant to the creation of international tournament scene in Europe. Research moved back origins of backgammon.
  • 3) The game designer criteria have been very modest for having a wiki page and by having a games company that has been around for over 20 years not owned by Hasbro is also significant. While only one I know of has significance for its own article due to game mechanisms there are many main stream and themed games that will be known to people such as a board game called sudoku.
  • 4) He is the most significant gamebook author in Italy including the first book on poker in Italian and encylopedia of games.
  • 5) He won the world championships in the only games all-round competition in the world at the time without a language element. And has been a prestigous performer in many new games including many national championships and some world championships in new games.

Anyone of the above points would be sufficient notability to warrant consideration for a page especially point 2).

There are many Category:game players that are dramatically less important than De Toffoli's impact on games while clearly this may be because of profiles that you think shouldn't be there I think his impact is clear. His contribution to games spreads almost 30 years and still continues.

Italian wikipedia: Giochi magazine has an article, his are the core cited books for the Italian page on backgammon. Lex Arcana has its own wikipedia page in Italian too. There are English forums with people listing him as a Hall of fame candidate for backgammon, Google in Italian autocompletes searchs on his name, etc...Tetron76 (talk) 14:18, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stop changing categories on chess biographies

[edit]

Stop changing categories on chess biographies. Category:German chess players is not obsolete. We don't want all player biographies in Category:Chess players. Quale (talk) 02:53, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of abstract strategy games

[edit]

Hey, got your message. Feel free to undo my deletion. In the early days of Wikipedia lists containing lots of redlinks was the norm as it was a useful way to encourage the creation of articles that needed to be made. Over the years things have shifted. Now a lot of these lists operate under the principle that the article needs to be created first and then added to the list otherwise the list fills up with redlinks that are going to stay red forever because they're things that aren't notable, only known to that editor and a couple of other people, or are a hoaxes/vandalism. Basically, a lot of lists these days do not allow redlinked items anymore. That said some lists can benefit from redlinks, like lists of high schools in an area (given that general consensus is that all high schools are inherently notable) but even in such cases there still needs to be some kind of reference that proves that the high school exists. I think that if you want to allow redlinks in this article then they should only be added if a reference is supplied to a reliable secondary source that establishes that the game/variant exists. Also, entire articles do not have to be created for game variants. For instance there's an article on chess variants so adding the game there (with reference) can be enough to justify the link in this article. SQGibbon (talk) 18:12, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Historic counties of England, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Henry I (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
