Sig

[edit]

Well, here's one. The colors are six-digit hexadecimal; the first two digits indicate red, the 3rd and 4th green, and the 5th and 6th blue. For instance, 990000 is bright red, 004400 is dark green, and 990099 is both red and blue, which would make it purple. Experiment away :) >Radiant< 08:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something else about your sig: When I noticed your "sign here" link, I vaguely remembered WP:SIG#Internal_links, where it advises against such links. But I really don't know how strictly that is being enforced. —AldeBaer 03:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, um, actually I am seeking to enforce it. But not by means of threatening etc, but by asking politely. —AldeBaer 22:06, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

schools

[edit]

Just a reminder that I think schools are not one of the A7 categories. For the article on Wichita North High School, it does look as if this might possibly be a copyvio, if you want to check that. DGG 19:21, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would have to be deleted at AfD if you wanted to delete it, but I think it says enough to pass. The bias for high schools is that they are often notable, and this does talk about the history of the school rather than merely give directory type information. It needs sources, but it sounds as if local histories would provide them: it's a substantial city. The result of the school discussions was no agreement on the policy page, but in practice the outcome at AfD is that high schools usually are N, junior high schools vary, and elementary schools that they usually are not--unless a really good writer can find something interesting to say. First step is to check the web site for copy violations--if it is all or mostly copied, that's a valid speedy. If only some is copied, remove that & see what's left. But even if almost nothing is left it still should be AfD, because someone will defend it.

Sometimes one judges by how the article looks, rather than the contents, & I have made mistakes that way. The article looks awful, would need wikifying of course if kept--I put on a tag for that. But the subject may be notable despite that. DGG 17:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

Hello Teh tennisman,

Thankyou for voting in my RfA. You will be pleased to know that it has been successful!! Meaning that I, Reedy Boy, am now an English Wikipedia Administrator.

It passed with a suprising 47/0/0, and I really am grateful of all your support, and I hope that I live up to your high expectations!

If there is anything I can do to help you out, please, do not hesitate to contact me!

Yours,

Sig

[edit]

This is kind of an experiment. You see, Some people kick in doors instead of asking politely. The thing is, I'm not an admin and I'm trying not to be a wikilawyer of sorts. The sole reason I'm asking you to change your sig is because I actually believe that signature collections are not what we are here for, and they are nourishing the wrong spirit.

The fact that there is an according rule is relevant only insofar as it encouraged me to come here asking. Remember: Guidelines are not set in stone. If you refused to change your sig, I wouldn't "tell on you" anywhere (it would probably be useless anyway). My aim is to persuade you of my opinion. If I can do that, I'd try and ask other users, too.

The difficulty is to find the right words, which isn't always easy for a non-native speaker like myself. Again: Signature pages are relatively harmless, but in my opinion they are among those habits which corroborate the wrong kind of spirit, in my opinion. If I can offer you any advice, please do not change your signature because I told you to. Do it if you want to avoid a minor guideline violation. Or better yet, do it if and only if you understand why I'm asking. Best regards, —AldeBaer 20:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Nice page design, by the way. If you'd like to link your menu images to the according pages, take a look at the code of my welcome page. —AldeBaer 20:47, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
<imagemap> Image:Crystal_Clear_app_package_network.png|90px circle 64 64 64 [[User:AldeBaer|user page]] desc none</imagemap> returns like

—AldeBaer 20:50, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Another thing: When I first saw a signature with a "sign here" link, I had the idea to sign including a link to WP:SIG. I then ditched the idea because I was afraid humour wouldn't achieve anything. What's your opinion? Should I rather have signed your page with that link? —AldeBaer 20:56, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the design-pointer. With "including WP:SIG in my signature" I meant posting and signing like
"Hi there, User:SignHere, sign my page too please! —AldeBaer"
Something along those lines. —AldeBaer 23:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

You have to capitalise the first letter in your user name:

—AldeBaer 23:14, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Here's the mediawiki page about the imagemap extension: mw:Extension:ImageMap. —AldeBaer 23:23, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I could just go to your menu subpage and try it directly, if you want me to. —AldeBaer 23:39, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm having a hard time to get the imagemap syntax eat url links. Take a look at the preliminary version: User:AldeBaer/sandbox. —AldeBaer 00:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Still no luck. Maybe it was excluded for a reason (it would be very easy to abuse this to lure users to bad places etc). I'll try some more tomorrow. —AldeBaer 00:43, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I managed to exchange the userspace link for an internal one, so this also works for imagemap. But the edit count and log links cannot be formatted as internal links. As I said, I strongly suspect that the external link function imagemap does basically offer has been disabled for plausible reasons, so I'm giving up for now but keeping an eye open for possible workarounds. I may use my sandbox for other test edits, but this permlink stays. —AldeBaer 00:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for taking the freedom to just put my final result in your /Menu page... In the end, it was a really obvious solution, one I should've thought of earlier: I just took the template syntax from {{click}}, which usually auto-puts double brackets around any given target link (as if it were an internal link) and adjusted that tiny bit of code... —AldeBaer 08:29, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Rfa

[edit]

Just dropping by to say "thank you" for supporting me in my recent my RfA. I passed the vote, and am now an admin. It will take me some getting used to with the new tools, but I thank you again for the trust. Have a good one, and, as always, happy editing! Jmlk17 04:54, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's me...

Dear Teh tennisman, thanks for your support in my recent RfA, it was, however, unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience. If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me.

I will run again. Until then, Cheers, Dfrg.msc 08:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not an admin, and I received your message after I logged off, but thanks for reverting the vandalism on my userpage. I think it went through 7 or 8 revisions last night. Thanks again, Cool Bluetalk to me 12:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my edit to Tommy Williams‎. When I added the {{db-nonsense}} tag I must have been viewing an earlier version of the page. -- Rehnn83 Talk 14:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

I did not vandalize

[edit]

I read your message that said I vandalised a page. I looked at the edits I made and I don't see how it was vandalism. I did not delete any information. I did the opposite - I added content to the page. There seems to be some misunderstanding here. Perhaps you should look at all 3 edits I made and then decide if I vandalised.67.40.215.221 20:36, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you copyedit Karmichael Hunt

It would be much appreciated.

SpecialWindler 04:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because, every copyediter seems to "be to busy" or "don't want to do it". Thats why. SpecialWindler talk 09:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean this, sorry for that. It was late and I was unnerved because someone (yet again) had told of display errors with my pages. I pointed them to other user pages from where I had grabbed code. I'm using the title override code I found on your page, so I came here and inadvertently saved the page, not realising that it wasn't my page. But while we're at it: How do you like my revised welcome page design? The best part is the blue navframe bar blending into the frame (hint: klick, twice if necessary, to the right on the blue bar). —AldeBaer 00:42, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

All stolen .-) —AldeBaer 00:45, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Wanna see something I actually didn't steal? Look here. I created the alternative setup section. Also, if you're as much into trying around with css/js as me, you may be interested in several user scripts I'm using, like e.g. QuickEdit. Please point out other interesting scripts you found. —AldeBaer 00:57, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
With scripts I mean stuff like Twinkle. On WP:US (WP:US/S) there's a bunch of stuff like that, some useful some less so. —AldeBaer 01:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
LOL, someone actually stealing something from me... makes me proud... erm, um, I... I'm not crying, it's just something in my eye... —AldeBaer 10:23, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Go right ahead. I was hoping to get 1000 mainspace edits before I ran but I'm over ¾ there so it should be close enough. —  $PЯINGrαgђ  03:57, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probably wait until my ER has gone for at least a little while since I want to get peoples' opinions on things. Of course my previous one had several hits by the time it ran this long, but we will see… —  $PЯINGrαgђ  04:00, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

false accusation

[edit]

im just noting you that you accidentally falsely accused 24.250.58.113 of vandalism. he only took out the whole bit on the left hand killer because he reentered it at the appropriate location which was now somewhere else because he added his name that previously wasnt given, which required it be replaced because of alphabetic order. (this sentence make sense??; i allready undid the revert by the way)· Lygophile has spoken 04:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly do I need to do to make it not look like vandalism? I tried to summerize the plot of the movie, not tell it word for word like that person did.

Okay, rest assured my intentions weren't to vandalize anyhow. And I'm still learning all the controls for Wiki, so apologies for the non-signing.
