British Bangladeshi - gangs

[edit]

This is what I was afraid of - having to firefight gangs who want to see their name eblazoned in the article :)

I would suggest removing the names of all gangs completely as the names don't add much value to the article. → AA (talk)11:32, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Sylhet

[edit]

Hi, Here is the thing: Sylhet Division is a collection of Districts (Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar). The districts are probably a post 1983 creation ... before that they were most likely to be part of greater Sylhet District. However, right now, Sylhet District is a collection of upazilas and the municipal area.

Sylhet city is the headquarter of all these ... both the district and the division. We have so far followed the convention of using the names (without any suffixes) for city articles, and add a "district", "upazila" or "division" suffix for administrative division articles. That's why Sylhet should only talk about the city rather than the district or the region or the division.

Unfortunately, right now I can be of minor help such as copyedits ... but you can ask Aditya Kabir to look into this. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 19:14, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Islam4U.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Islam4U.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:16, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla maps

[edit]

Hi Mohsin and thanks for your comments. i made all those maps using data that i got from user:rarelibra. i had spent considerable time creating a base map, so it is easy for me to keep making these state maps. while i would have loved to do the same for Bangladesh, i really dont have that kind of time to dedicate for such a massive effort. you could contact rarelibra for an svg version of the existing Bangladesh map which could serve as a starting point -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:01, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BD Map

[edit]

Dear Mohsin, you might have guessed from my reduced level of activity in wikipedia that I have suddenly got very busy with real life. Actually, I have come back to Bangladesh from Hong Kong. In Bangladesh I don't have much free time to work on Wikipedia. Creating map is a very time consuming exercise. I don't think I'll be able to spend enough time to create one anytime soon.

If you are interested to create an SVG map or image. You need to download a software named inkscape. Please go to This link to download it. Then for a good tutorial, you may refer to: Wikipedia:How to draw a diagram with Inkscape. This is exactly how I learned to create SVG files.

To create a Bangladesh map you may download Image:BD Districts LOC.svg and start from there. Best of Luck. Arman (Talk) 04:53, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
What? You worry?

Sorry that it has not been promoted this time. But, no worry, address the issues raised at the FAC first, then take it to a peer review, and then... a second FAC. A lot many current FACs have gone through this pain, and it only helps to make the best of articles. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on the viewpoint), the bar for Wikipedia article standards have been raised significantly since the new grading system. A year back you probably have passed fine. But, the way you keep dilligently working on the article, and its subsidieries... may be you can have a whole bunch of Featured topics in the end (and enter Durova's vaunted circle of triple crown winners on the side). Sylheti language

[edit]

Hi Mohsin,

Firstly, want to say you are doing a very good job in expanding all the Bangladesh related articles. For personal and real life reasons, I am unable to devote much time to WP currently (but hope to return at some point again).

Secondly, I would like to say that Sylheti is a language and not a dialect of Bengali. Could you clarify this point when updating articles please.

Again, keep up the good work!

Hi there, if you should have the time, I'd appreciate a 'neutral eye' at this article. Uncited claims of 1.3 million were added to the article earlier - however there's only 607,083 Muslims reported in the 2001 census. I'd be happy to take a more recent figure, should there be one with a citation.

Don't let wiki grind you down; sometimes it can be difficult but you do need to trust fellow editors. Somewhere, in there, there is an existential truth we can all live with. Peace and blessings where ever you go; and whatever you decide. Kbthompson (talk) 00:02, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Shahara Islam

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shahara Islam, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non-notable victim of heinous attack. However, victim is only notable for this one event, any valuable information should be added to the main articles on this attack

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Replaceable fair use Image:Baroness Uddin.png

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Baroness Uddin.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 15:51, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
