Deleted copyvios

[edit]

I have restored the revisions by you, before the infringing user. See User talk:Centrx#Word/Void copyvio deletion, just wanted to leave you a message so you would be notified quickly. —Centrxtalk • 03:25, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you just edited link from loz. I was wondering if you like the page. It's jsut that there is one individual who keeps trying to trash it and make a new one, which would delete yours edits, my edits, and all those of the others who have worked hard on it just 'cause he doesn't care for it. Just thought you, as a fellow contributor, should know.

Zelda

[edit]

I'm glad you removed the infobox for The Legend of Zelda series article. Thanks! --Tristam 06:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Video Game Maps

[edit]

Hi, sorry to jump the gun in placing the map links in. I talked to ReyBrujo, who was the person who removed the links before, and he said it would be ok to add the links back in, and suggested I leave the Edit Summary comment. I have no problem waiting until a consensus is reached. I just was not sure how to tell once one was reached. How will I know when a final decision is made? Thanks, Snesmaster 02:24, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spoilers

[edit]

I was actually basing my edits off of those of User:Ryu Kaze and User:Deckiller, two prominent editors. They began removing spoilers in Final Fantasy-related articles for several reasons. Spoilers violate Wikipedia's free content policy, its universal disclaimer, and, to an extent, NPOV. Furthermore, it's something of an insult to the intelligence of readers: wouldn't they expect to find information about the story and characters in a section marked "Story and characters"?

Thanks for the compliment, but no articles I've worked on so far reflect what I consider my evolution as an editor. Only after reading comments by User:A Man In Black and User:Angr have I realized that most WP:CVG articles violate official Wikipedia policies, namely Fair Use Criterion, Original Research, Reliable Source Criterion, and Verifiability. For Fair Use Criterion, I believe that User:Angr is correct: most CVG articles only need two fair use images at most: one for identifying the subject of the article (usually the cover art of the game) and one to demonstrate the game itself. Most other images are for decoration; the article doesn't actually need them. As for RSC, and Verifiability, these are why many CVG articles shouldn't exist: there simply aren't reliable (published) secondary sources over them, and most analyses of the plot, characters, and gameplay constitute Original Research. Imagine if all editors spent their collective time on important computer and video game articles with verifiable information from published secondary sources rather than trivial articles such as "List of weapons in [x game]." Ah well, I'm done with my tirade now. I just hope that other editors will begin to follow official Wikipedia policies (again, I've neglected to do so until very recently).

Oh, for the plot in The Legend of Zelda, I should warn you it sounds a bit redundant. If you wrote the original plot, I probably took a few words and phrases and used them in the gameplay section (such as the bit about Link's guidance by "cryptic clues from Hyrule's sparse inhabitants"). I'd also recommend writing from an out of universe perspective (in line with another Wikipedia policy), but I understand that it's very difficult and it's something I haven't come close to mastering. --Tristam 01:54, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm glad that you don't advocate spoiler tags as they are against the philosophy behind Wikipedia. I probably came off rude in warning you about redundancy, so I'll emphasize that the redundancy was my fault in re-using some of your original plot text. If you want to slightly re-tool the plot wording or the gameplay wording, it would help the article out. --Tristam 01:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You certainly have the right idea. As my ideology towards Wikipedia shifts, I'm not sure if plot summaries are meant to be included in most game articles: they usually constitute original research and aren't verifiable. However, these are only guidelines and not official policies, so I wouldn't try to remove any but the most crufty plot analyses. As it is, the Legend of Zelda article's plot summary is nice and short (perhaps because the plot itself is extremely simple), so I think that it's OK. Good luck reworking it and thank you. Hopefully we can work to preserve the integrity of the article; I notice that many users add in information that, while in good faith, violates some policy or guideline or is written using second-person pronouns. --Tristam 06:53, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:SNIyer12 isn't going away.

[edit]

What course of action can we take? Its getting annoying to revert these articles over and over again. Can we get an admin to block him or something? --Havermayer 05:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shannara titles

[edit]

Shoot; sorry, my bad. I goofed :( -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 02:56, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:180px-Zelda2 west continent.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters 11:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Shannara

[edit]
Hi! I've seen you editing Shannara related articles here on Wikipedia, and so I would like to invite you to join the Shannara task force, an effort by Wikipedians to improve the series' coverage on this encyclopedia. Please consider signing up here and helping us out. Thank you in advance!
Though (if my memory serves me right) you are already a member from back in the Dark Ages. =) I hope that you decide to return at least part-time! Cheers, -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 21:12, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've been on a bit of a hiatus but I'll probably be inspired to get down to work with the release of the new novel. As soon as I finish it (this is by far the longest period between release of a Shannara book and reading it I have ever had, but that's another story) I plan to do major surgery on the plot summary and related links. About the sign up page, I just sign up on the general "novels" task page now? Things have changed a bit.Sraan (talk) 05:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Something like that...I joined the WikiProject right as the Novels Project looked to suck it up.....They were like, "maybe more people will join if it is under the Novels WikiProject, where people can see it"...well, that didn't happen... =/ ...I'm literally the only regular contributor! ([[User:Zachary Crimsonwolf|Zachary Crimsonwolf helps a little, but he isn't on too much.) Anyway..... I nominated The Sword of Shannara to be a FA here...will you comment on the article or help me improve it? Thanks and cheers, -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 03:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. How long has it been? There may be a few new "guidelines" you've missed if it has been awhile....*looking at your contribs*....yeah, it's been awhile, hasn't it? =D Take a gander through WP:OR, WP:RS, WP:V and WP:MoS if you want...they've changed a lot. Also, the criteria for FA and GA have gotten a lot tighter...you need sources for everything*mdash;just having "brilliant prose" isn't good enough anymore. -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 03:33, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Angel Perez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
