It's late

[edit]

Didn't I read somewhere that your computer is on automatic shutdown between 02:00 and 08:00? Have you sent the offspring to bed so that you can use theirs? :-) Bielle (talk) 03:06, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd never try to change machines ruling my life by asking the same machines to restrict my access! Not that I'd even know how. It is oh so quiet here though. ---Sluzzelin talk 03:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will remember who it was, likely days from now. He/she had the household IT specialist work the magic to ensure at least a few hours of sleep. (At my vast age, my eyes quit after 5 or 6 hours of staring at the screen, which is its own type of enforcement.) I am the Nightwatch in my house, nonetheless. Bielle (talk) 03:18, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was the nightwatch already as a kid. I remember the first times insomnia set in, perhaps I was seven, and it scared me. I thought I might die if I didn't catch any sleep. Don't know why I believed that, but in my narcissistic frenzy I woke the entire family, running up and down the hall, screaming "I can't sleep! I can't sleep". I had tried to repress this memory, but my big sister reminded me recently. She hadn't forgotten. ---Sluzzelin talk 03:22, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I sleep just fine, once I get there, but I have had very little success in starting before about 4:00 a.m. I like to be asleep before the birds start their morning racket, and the rooster next door begins to strut. And then I am gone for 7 to 8 hours. I make no appointments before noon because I hate waking up to an alarm clock. I did the daytime schedule for 50 years -never again. They'll have to find an old-age home for me that does breakfast at 13:00. And on that note, the screen is beginning to swim, so I am off to read -different focal length, and so still possible. Enjoy the quiet. Bielle (talk) 03:33, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thank you for your recent book title translation "Tip Tip Hurray". You can see it in all its glory at Edi Hans Pawlata. I owe you a virtual

pint!

Alansplodge (talk) 19:13, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and cheers to that! By the way, I added the interlanguage link to de:wikipedia.org, but only later noticed that MystBot had already removed it [1] from your first version. I wonder why. Leaving it there for now. ---Sluzzelin talk 09:59, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Phantom Photos

[edit]

Now how did you do that? If you lived in his district, I might understand, but you are on the other side of the world. Do you have a photo-match program of some sort? Bielle (talk) 03:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing so fancy. I merely clicked on the picture and read the explanatory text (but maybe I misunderstood Stu's question). ---Sluzzelin talk 13:34, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It never even occurred to me that a Ref Desker as experienced as StuRat would not already have checked the photo, so I didn't either. Ah, yes, assumption tends to make fools of some of us. Bielle (talk) 21:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert

[edit]

I suppose I must have misformatted my comment or posted it in the wrong place or made another kind of mistake that you fixed here, but would you mind telling my why you reverted this edit[2]. That way I can avoid making the same mistake another time. ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 01:31, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh crap, finger must have slipped or something. I hadn't even noticed it. Otherwise I would have reverted and explained and apologized immediately, as I have done before whenever my fat finger slipped. Just logged back in. Sorry about that and especially for confusing you. I didn't see anything wrong with your format nor do I generally care much about talk page structure. Please help yourself to my virtual pint above. I've wondered about ridding myself of rollback. ---Sluzzelin talk 01:53, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I figured that either your finger slipped (it's happened to me as well, I've almost blocked someone in a similar accident) or it was a formatting issue (sometimes I have posted in the wrong section and nice peeps have fixed it for me).·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 01:59, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Latin?

[edit]

Hi, Sluzzelin - it's been a long time. Is my memory correct - are you a bit of a Latin scholar? If so, can I ask your help with something? No worries if you haven't the time, of course. Adambrowne666 (talk) 04:17, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...

for pointing out the CIO link confusion. Cheers. Leaky Caldron 13:02, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I still think your link to WP:COI is misapplied in this situation, but I'm happy to leave it at that (an agreement to disagree). ---Sluzzelin talk 13:24, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrano

[edit]

Dear Sluzzelin; I'm sorry it's been so long. Did I tell you my Cyrano novel, with which you were so helpful, is being published in September? You can see a bit about here, publisher, and on my blog blog (scroll down - there are bits and pieces scattered throughout)- I'd love to send you a thankyou copy when it comes time - is there some way you can get a postal address to me?

Adambrowne666 (talk) 19:53, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You did mention it, and I'm thrilled to see that everything's still on schedule. I am moved by your lovely offer and gratitude, and will be sending you an address by email sometime come late summer (I don't know for sure where I'll be living in September yet). And thanks for the links! Can't wait :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 06:22, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry to repeat myself - I often forget who I've told what - will look forward to your email - wish we could share in your summer down here... Adambrowne666 (talk) 00:28, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain

What is the reason for this,[[5]],I'm a very reasonable person,I can understand removing one of my comments, but why both? 74.163.16.52 (talk) 19:12, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have so many enemies...

[edit]

...it gets hard to take them apart. Thanks for keeping tabs. I notice that none of the three accounts has been used simultaneously, so that makes a WP:SOCK charge hard to stick, but it is prolly a good idea to keep tabs on him. Thanks again. --Jayron32 00:11, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really keep tabs. Some cheerful personalities just shine through, no matter what the current account. Anyway, I thought you'd like to know, but won't pursue this otherwise. Waste of attention. (Hence the abuse of edit summary :-)---Sluzzelin talk 01:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Phoning

[edit]

I was adding a reply when you deleted your Ref Desk post. It means the same thing as "call", but "phone" is better, IMHO, because "call" can also mean other things, like yelling out someone's name, or "calling on them", in person. StuRat (talk) 00:17, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and sorry, I had misposted, and now moved it to the language desk. I will add a specification based on your reply. :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 00:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

Sorry I reverted your edit to Wikipedia:Reference desk/Language by mistake. MilborneOne (talk) 22:19, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problems, happens to my fat fingers all the time. Thanks :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 01:23, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

[edit]

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrano

[edit]

Hi, Sluzzelin - I'm back at last - the novel you helped me with has been published at last - sadly, it's small press, so I only get two copies; one I'd like to keep, the other's for my father - I'm so sorry I can't send you one as I promised - but you know you can't trust we writers!

I hope you're in rude health and all's well.

Thanks again for your assistance way back when.

Adambrowne666 (talk) 13:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You could purchase a copy and send it in thanks. Bielle (talk) 02:30, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

French capitalisation

[edit]

Thanks for helping with my rewrite of The Carnival of the Animals. I suppose the rule is to write the most common name (used in English), which in this case is the English translation, with the original in parenthesis. Fine. And you capitalised 'Carnaval', which looks odd to me, but is I see the way it's written in a (smelly paper) book in front of me. Gosh. But double-gosh, there seems to be another rule for "Musical article style" here, saying the other thing:

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Classical_music/Style_guidelines#Capitalization:_original_language_titles

Hmm. Should there really be a rule for capitalisation of French within English? I see Le martyre de Saint Sébastien has interestingly different capitalisation in French French...

Imaginatorium (talk) 18:54, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I had only changed the capitalisation; the common name switch was done by another editor. I changed the capitalisation according to Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/France_&_French-related#Works_of_art, but didn't even bother to read the next paragraph on music which indeed says something else. So, I now changed it back. Sorry for causing confusion. ---Sluzzelin talk 20:44, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bowing on the Ref Desk

[edit]

The chance of that being a sincere question is probably less than the chance that Yushchenko is me in drag. Straight answer and a curve ball for an edit summary - I like your style. Regards, Bielle (talk) 02:28, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedians

[edit]

You joined the Category:Wikipedians who are not a Wikipedian, which is being discussed at its entry at Categories nominated for deletion.

You may wish to join the category Category:Wikipedians working towards even enforcement of civility.

Kiefer.Wolfowitz 10:55, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It would be a misnomer, as I'm not working toward anything. I liked the paradoxical category (and no, to me it wasn't about the arbitrator who's being quoted) and the category is going to stay on my user page, red or blue. But thank you for letting me know, Kiefer! ---Sluzzelin talk 19:00, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I too am keeping the red-linked category on my user page, and I have a feeeling others are as well. What would you think about creating a page or sub-page where those of us who had joined the category could add our names? It would keep us together in one place and ostensibly render their efforts to delete the category null and void. Joefromrandb (talk) 15:50, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like something similar already exists: Wikipedia:Wikipedians who are not a Wikipedian. In any event, I don't think I will be joining any further discussions about this category, given the amount of heat and resentment it seems to have generated. Thanks for stopping by though. ---Sluzzelin talk 19:57, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing me to that! Joefromrandb (talk) 23:15, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
