Women in Red #1woman1week January to March 2024

#1woman1week
Thank you, Rosiestep, for creating at least one biography of a woman per week from 1 January to 31 March 2024. I hope you will continue to participate from April to June.--Ipigott (talk) 07:00, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

April music

story · music · places

A few more pics, now from back home, a bird family ;) - listened live to a fascinating woman conducting "her" orchestra which now has an article --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:39, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Wow, Gerda Arendt: "Lyniv is the first female conductor to be named music director of an Italian opera house."! --Rosiestep (talk) 11:48, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
yes, and the first to conduct at the Bayreuth Festival possibly even more sensational, and then she comes and speaks in lovely German on the cause of her youth orchestra, and conducts with great economy of movements, - not a show but serving the music, - did you look at a video? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:21, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed, - and the woman behind it pictured, not the man, and I'm proud of that little bit), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (look up places - no cat) - I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:18, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
Today I see Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:32, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
I have never listened to Marian Anderson previously, but now I shall. Cherry blossoms are so beautiful! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:26, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
now plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, such an accomplished organist. May he RIP. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:16, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
thank you! - My story today is about a piece composed for the Second Sunday after Easter 300 years ago, and I just returned from a (long) opera about the same age, with soprano Pretty Yende --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:18, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Nice! I've been in the Bay Area this weekend at 2 conferences. Yesterday's cat was looking up; today's is looking down. As for me, I'll be looking straight ahead and side-to-side as I make the drive home shortly. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:38, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Hope you made it home safely! - relief: the last of six RD articles in one week is now on the Main page - yesterday I went to a great recital with many anti-war songs by Jewish composers whose music was banned by the Nazis. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:51, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
That must have been a very moving recital. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:00, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
It was, and I sat first row (see my pic, taken standing where I sat), and he sang it all from memory. Schönberg Op. 1, sooo expressive, and has no article ... Positive review. And here we are rehearsing for our next concert, to be very moving. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:48, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
I could see the 'here we are' photo for a split second before a German-language message popped up, but that was long enough to capture it in my brain. Wishing you a wonderful 'next concert'. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:54, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
In my browser, the message comes below the pic, and requests subscription. Perhaps foreigners are treated differently - unfairly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:06, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
ps: your cat today looks colour-coordinated not only with the carpet of flowers but also with our concert poster (in print even closer than in the online version) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
The RD articles were followed by two birthdays in a row, and I prefer those (see my talk). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:29, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Indeed, a good match with your poster. What is 'RD'? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:14, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
(you didn't ask further up) Recent deaths - (DYK OTD TFA ...) a corner on the Main page. Tomorrow will be the first day without one by me in a while. Instead, a dear person died in real life, - we had no contact in decades but still ... listen to my story. I came to say that I uploaded pics of a flock of sheep, matching a title from our poster. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes, now I know what you're talking about. Sorry; should have remembered in the first place. Congratulations on all of those Main page articles. Impressive. Extremely cute flock of sheep! I started an article over the weekend which you might enjoy: Marietta Sherman Raymond, a violinist and orchestral conductor. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:37, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
It was nice listening to the music while he conducted, and also his commentary. "Heavy clouds, Eschenhahn" is a beautiful photo! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:12, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! - For my story, I took the same woman as last year, but now you can see a photo (thanks to Storye book), and listen to her singing: soul, forget them not, the dead. Will look at the violinist, - another 300 years Bach cantata is my topic toda, - we can do better now than in 2011. Snow pic to follow eventually. Brother will play concert at MARTa Herford on Sunday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:58, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
How was brother's concert at MARTa Herford? --Rosiestep (talk) 13:19, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Excellent, pictured! But now I'm tired, needed early rising and longish train travel. Too many composers to even list, Lully, Glass, etc, a Piazzola tango to conclude, and a lot of literature in between in several languages - when you read the players' names you'll see why. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:26, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Nice; I figured it would be. Get some rest! --Rosiestep (talk) 12:59, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

done, nice peaceful day out with friends - today you can look at the last three stories or "music" on my talk: the same topics, Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Samuel Kummer and (pictured as you will have seen) one row of 8 double basses and another of 5 bassists ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:28, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol

Hi, thank you for your work on New Pages Patrol, including my last couple of new articles. It is a valuable contribution to maintaining the quality of the encyclopedia. TSventon (talk) 15:33, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

TSventon, you're welcome. I really enjoy participating on NPP. I learn so much. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:30, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Would you mind taking a look at the new page that I have created and possibly mark it as reviewed? Jeraxmoira appears to be dragging his feet about finishing the work he started. Also, take a look at the talk page, that will give you some background. I believe that I have made the necessary changes to address all of his concerns and feel that the article qualifies for publication otherwise I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Thank you. My participation in Women in Red

I should inform you, Rosie, that after enthusiastically participating in Women in Red for almost nine years, I have decided it is time for me to turn my attention to other matters, in particular new (and older) page patrol, assisting new editors, reviewing and assessing OKA translations, and helping with new projects such as Elit. My top priority has always been to avoid any kind of editing conflict but in the light of recent developments, I am finding this increasingly difficult and lack the resilience shown by Roger. I have noticed the enthusiasm of several more recent contributors and think it is time we should benefit from their assistance in ensuring the success of the project. I hope they will find it interesting to become more involved in welcoming new members, maintaining our showcase, press and research listings, and above all in selecting topics and ideas for effective future focus. I will of course always be happy to offer assistance to anyone who contacts me although I will not be creating any more new articles about women myself. Maybe I'll feel like returning when things are more settled but for the time being I am simply no longer sufficiently motivated. I would however like to thank you most sincerely, Rosie, for the outstanding leadership you have ensured in maintaining and promoting the project on a global basis. It has always been a pleasure to collaborate with you on WiR and other projects. Drop me a line if ever you think I can be of assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:10, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

Dear Ian, I am so s-a-d reading this. I can't imagine not working with you at WiR. I appreciate you and what you have done so much and I believe Roger and everyone at WiR would say the same. I need time to find more words. Right now, I'm gobsmacked. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:42, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Don't worry, Rosie. I think you'll see that other enthusiasts will be ready to help things along. I looked at MSGJ's proposal to delete all our earlier templates and could see he had already received substantial support from his friends. Unless he withdraws his proposal, it looks to me as if they will soon be deleted. Like most other contributors, I edit on Wikipedia because I enjoy it. Over the past two or three months, I have been faced with an increasing number of situations which seemed liable to cause disagreements, in some cases with participants who have made major contributions to the project. I have never been happy dealing with potential disagreements and conflicts and have therefore decided I should devote more time to supporting other areas in need of attention. While I will not be creating any more new articles on Women in Red, I might nevertheless try to improve and update past contributions, especially lists. And I'll still be around for you and anyone else who thinks I can help with anything. Thanks for your concern, Rosie. I appreciate your kind thoughts.--Ipigott (talk) 15:48, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Well I am also disappointed and I know I'm only posting a new article every day to one of the projects. I'm surprised that you didn't raise your specific point about me, with me, before posting here, but that is your choice. Our last exchange was about how much I valued your contribution. I remain faithful to you and hope that you may reconsider or at least have a discussion. The point about templates has been keeping me awake and I had some suggestions. Victuallers (talk) 15:52, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, Roger, I was trying to hold on as long as possible without complaint but the developments yesterday convinced me that I could no longer participate successfully under the evolving changes. Your earlier unwarrented treatment was also one of the reasons I decided I needed to move õn. Day after day I come across your NPP additions accompanied by your phenomenal number of edits. I'm afraid we're just no longer being taken seriously by those who should be supporting our efforts. It seems to me the project needs a new boost of enthusiasm from younger participants such as those who have supported the recent changes and all the other new Wikipedians who have joined the project over the past few months. Let's hope they can live up to our expectations. I'll always remember your original proposal, Roger, about targeting more women as a fantastic idea which as you know is the reason I have devoted the last nine years to trying to move forward on women and their works. To some extent we have progressed but we need new incentives if we are to make any significant impact. I have not completely abandoned the project but will no longer be creating new articles. "You can't teach an old dogs new tricks" (and this dog is really old). Happy editing!-Ipigott (talk) 18:15, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
@Ipigott, I (a not-so-young editor) am very sorry to read this news and admit that I, too, found the number of changes and how they were introduced and implemented most disturbing. Editing is supposed to be enjoyable and some of the past months has been anything but, until I shared my concerns with Rosiestep by email. I was on the point of walking away from the May prep myself until I realised that WIR as a whole and the editors led by @Rosiestep and @Victuallers need the behind-the-scenes editors to make our Event pages and so on to keep the project alive. I will miss your active participation at WIR, you will always be welcome back. I wish you well for your future editing. Oronsay (talk) 19:11, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
@Oronsay: I too wondered if I should discuss these matters by email but I finally decided it would be more useful to comment here and on mu own talk page where anyone interested would be able to follow my reasoning. I have really appreciated your regular involvement in helping to firm up our month-by-month events and to update the WiR main WiR page with the latest figures from Humaniki on the status of women's biographies (now 19.81%) as they become available. I very much hope that many of the more recent "recruits" will be ready to provide support too, in particular by helping to increase membership of the project and assisting those who join. Less critical are the additions to other WiR pages such as Showcase (which attracts less than nine page views a day and has had no other contributors for quite some time). As for Research and Press, these items each receive only one page view a day but I thought it was useful to maintain a record in connection with the history of the project. So the only really significant change is my decision not to create any more new articles about women. Here I notified the project some time ago that I would no longer be creating so many and in fact in April I created only four biographies and one list. On the other hand, I will continue to help with articles created by other editors, in particular SusunW and Balance person, and will always be available to offer advice or assistance to anyone in need of assistance. I hope this clarifies my position and helps to make things look less dramatic. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:38, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
  • I am pleased to see, Rosie, that there has now been significant support on Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 April 29 for not deleting all our original event templates. There seems to be increasing interest in ensuring that technical changes are first discussed in consultation with content editors rather than just with those primarily interested in technical issues. This is an important step in the right direction.--Ipigott (talk) 13:39, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I was surprised but not surprised to see your message Ian. (Sorry I didn't reply before now, but it was my birthday yesterday and I was offline from the day before.) WIR will not be the same with you gone, but I respect your decision. I agree with Oronsay that "the number of changes and how they were introduced and implemented [is] most disturbing". But, I think on a project where anyone can edit, that is always an issue. For the most part, I just try to stay in my writing bubble and ignore the politics and technical changes until I am forced to deal with them. I very much appreciate that you will still be around and are willing to continue to help with advice and assistance. SusunW (talk) 14:02, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
  • Ipigott, I've taken a few days to reflect on what you've said. I think knowing you are still around, shall be good enough for me. I plan to stay connected with you, so count on it! Maybe you and I and Dr. Blofeld can do some more work together on other topics as we did a decade ago. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:47, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
  • The feeling is mutual, Rosie. We should certainly stay connected. I thought I had identified an important new activity with OKA but it very much looks as if it will now be brought to a standstill. Not a very successful month for me so far but let's see how everything works out. One thing is quite certain: there's always more than enough for me to do on Wikipedia. But if you feel like working on other topics from time to time, that might indeed be fun. I was also considering contributing to Elit more intensively. It would be good to see more activity there.--Ipigott (talk) 16:28, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

New wikiprojects

Ipigott, I think OKA will be fine, and I'd be happy to work on this with you and others. It does need a helping hand with workflows... something you and I have quite a bit of experience at WiR. While being required to go through AfC is an extra step, I don't think it's a bad thing. I actually think it's good, if it will prove the worth of the articles in general (e.g., they aren't about companies or BLP), and OKA in particular. What's missing is the on-wiki info. I get why OKA wanted to stay under the radar initially, but I don't think that concept will serve it well at this point as it's matured past its start-up phase. I think it's time for it to become a wikiproject where there's a defined mainpage, talkpage, table (e.g., like this), article talkpage template, etc. But I won't push it. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:55, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

  • That sounds very positive, Rosie. As for listing their drafts, they could simply be added to the bottom of this list where all their new articles/additions appear. I for one would be only too happy to promote their drafts to mainspace (without necessarily going through AfC procedures). I would be far happier to help with OKA translations than with the many other paid creations I am asked to review. (For some reason I have gained a reputation for helping with these.) If the OKA editors simply list them in their user space (User:ABC/new article name) it will be easy to identify them. As far as I know, even with COI that should still be possible. Up to now, I have only needed to make major changes to one article. Nearly all of them have been well up to standard from the start although minor changes to the lead are frequently needed. So if we can put something together to help them along these lines, there should be clear benefits for both OKA and the English wiki.--Ipigott (talk) 17:21, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
I'm happy to see Elit and Women Do News flourishing! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:55, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Ipigott Is this one formatted correctly: User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Electronic literature? This one seems to have more columns: User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Women Do News. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Up to now, Elit have not opted for importance ratings, only quality. That's why there are fewer columns. WP Women artists, WP Women and many others only go for quality.--Ipigott (talk) 17:50, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Ipigott, IMHO ... I don't think the list you link to is the way to go any longer. The days of OKA "staying under the radar" have passed; it is no longer a newbie community. The AfC requirement is evidence that it's time to be more aligned with EN-WP processes. In order for it to continue flourishing -and I truly support that- I believe it's time for OKA to have a more mature integration into EN-WP, e.g., articles should be listed on-wiki on a WikiProject subpage. It could be a subpage of WP:WikiProject Intertranswiki, or a subpage of a newly-create WP:WikiProject OKA. It could have components of this and/or be in table format like this. This requires the commitment of its leadership. I'd be glad to help as an advisor in an on-wiki capacity as time allows. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Yes, you are probably right about the need for a completely new setup for OKA. If we organize an Intertranswiki task force, the coordinator will have to bring things in line. Let's hope the translators can adapt.--Ipigott (talk) 17:56, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

May music

story · music · places

On the bicentenary of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, I remember our recent uplifting choral concert in pictures, on my user page and in my concerts (leading to the two at the church's article). The closest was in the paper. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

200 years! Such an amazing piece of music. I was able to adjust the settings on my laptop so that I could access the website you link to (wiesbadener-kurier.de) and see the photo. What a beautiful rock wall in your 5 May photo. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:45, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, - yes, we love the wall, and it's good for the music ;) - Today is the Feast of the Ascension for which Bach composed his oratorio, - perhaps watch a bit how the closing movement was performed in Bach's church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:03, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Curious ... what affect does it have for the music? --Rosiestep (talk) 07:34, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Don't know, - just know that our conductor, who listened to many recordings of the piece, singled that one out as not going for speed alone ;) - I also know that David Erler, one of the strong alto voices in the choir, was also soloist for tha Mass in B minor in 2013. (He was also the soloist for the oratorio but that movement is not on yt.) - Magdalena Hinterdobler is on the Main page today, together with an opera that reviewers deemed not interesting and too obscure for our general readers. The soprano thought differently, - listen and see. - Also on the Main page: a TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:36, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
The soprano is up for deletion, and I'm on a family gathering. Perhaps make a note on WIR? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:29, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Enjoy the family time. I made a note. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:27, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the note. Interesting discussion. - I thought of you when I made today's story with a pic of a woman holding her cat, a DYK of 5 years ago - the recent pics show 2 orange tip butterflies --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
I clicked and clicked this morning but could not find the woman holding her cat. Link please? Also, would like to view the butterflies. Still traveling, and multi-tasking. Maybe that's why it's not easy to sort out at the moment. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
you click on "story" below the image, and if the day passed, you scroll up ;) - similarly, for the pics you click on "places", and scroll up - if that doesn't help look for Hedi Schoop, pic from 1957. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
I tried the clicking/scrolling but didn't locate it. Clicking on Hedi's article, though, did the trick. Great photo! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
I heard lovely chamber music today, and the DYK mentions "profoundly human" singing (that you can watch), connected to a place where we'll sing in September - sorry about the misleading description: in the story, there's the link to the complete year, and within that, you can scroll (or add the date as day and three digit month, such as _14_May for the cat). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:37, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Nice! I really enjoy chamber music for its intimacy. Later today, I'll be attending a symphony performance; I'll let you know how it goes. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:03, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Yes, it's like personal exchange of thoughts. In the current series, it's also teachers (here Antje Weithaas and Lawrence Power) playing with their students, another one one coming up tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:31, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
... which was also great! - I liked seeing Erschallet, ihr Lieder on the Main page today, 310 years after the first performance! We sang it in 2000. Today's program was easier but also spirited. I found a nice video of "I will sing with the spirit", with nature photography, - enjoy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:36, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
You must be quite proud -rightly so- seeing it on the Main page. I was at a recent symphony performance which also had photography background; I'll admit to not being keen on it. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:34, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Well, proud, no, that was rather easy, - I'm proud that I noticed that Pentecost Sunday in 1714 was Pentecost Monday in 2024. OTD insists that it has to be the day (20 May) not the occasion, but this matched, sort of. I am proud of today's story which mentions a concert I loved to hear (DYK, and the memorable discussion is on the talk) and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD, - that was little discussion but a lot of sourcing and expanding work yesterday. And then I noticed today that I had forgotten to write the article about Schönberg's Op. 1 (now at least begun) and the translation of the baritone into German ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Just read it; nice. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:55, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Today's focus is Ethel Smyth (per the TPF), written by many, and I wonder if it could become GA if not FA even. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:08, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is my little contribution to Trinity Sunday, with a church named after the Trinity (which I'd have liked to see pictured, and what would be a good description of that kind of facade? "splendid" was reverted as not neutral) and a cantata Bach conducted 300 years ago for the occasion (having composed it 9 years earlier). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Your story's venue, the Spiegelsaal (Schloss Köthen), is beautiful. I wonder why there's no article about it. Maybe it's more commonplace in Europe, but it's rare to see someplace like that in the U.S. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:02, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
The Spiegelsaal (story on 1 January) is an unusual place even in Germany, but there are so many uncovered topics ... - 29 May 1913: The Rite of Spring - today's story, actually something I saw at that place in a revival. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:37, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
Enjoyed reading the The Rite of Spring article. Always something new to learn. Also trying to visualize how "... the avant-garde nature of the music and choreography caused a sensation." at that 1913 performance. The image in the infobox is beautiful. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:01, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
The Rite article was written by sadly missed Brian Boulton, today's TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. - Today's story is about Samuel Kummer, one of five items on the Main page - more musing on my talk (including that I found the DYK sadly too shortened). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:14, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
last offer in May: photos of the river Rhine, and the adjacent Eltville rose garden, - high water and interesting weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:07, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Are you in town or attending remotely? Gamaliel (talk) 15:23, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Gamaliel! Remotely. :( Do you know when Ariel will start the Zoom call? (I have to leave at the top of the hour. But I'll continue working on things later today.) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:52, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Thanks, Gamaliel, and hi, Figureskatingfan. Hope it was an enjoyable event! I uploaded some Shaker hymns to Commons. May upload additional ones as time permits. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:34, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi Rosie. In connection with OKA, today I've come across articles by the paid editor Mathieulalie. From here and from M's talk page, you can see that submitting drafts to AfC seems to be working quite well. I think Liz probably deleted the articles I moved because I am not an established member of AfC. I think it will therefore be better if from now on I discontinue any involvement with OKA as I seem to be creating problems for their members. I still think it would be useful to have an OKA task force on Intertranswiki but you are probably the best person to take this forward.--Ipigott (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Ipigott, I think you've been as supportive as you could be with intertranswiki article improvement. The paid editing issue is really complicated, and I totally get why you want to step back from involvement with OKA articles. I enjoy being involved in conversations related to intertranswiki article translations, and for that reason, I joined and continue to support WP:WikiProject Intertranswiki. Where I draw a red line is involvement with paid editing issues as I think others have more experience with this, and, ergo, are better suited to do the needful follow-up. I would be supportive of an OKA task force to WP Intertranswiki if the OKA leadership goes in that direction. It's their decision, of course. On my part, it was only a suggestion so that paid editing discussions could be compartmentalized separate from translations themselves, e.g., if OKA weren't a paid editing organization, there'd be no need for the task force. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

WiR

While I'm here, you may be pleased to hear that in the absence of any support for many of the areas I have been handling in support of WiR, I decided to continue my collaboration (except for Showcase for which there seems to be no interest). In reaction to Roger's comment in connection with just editing talk pages. I've also created a couple of women's biographies and will no doubt create more.--Ipigott (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Ipigott, well, you made my day with this post (re. continuing your collaboration with WiR)! Yay! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

TY!

TY v much for creating Mary Louise Booth. I cited one of the books she translated in John T. Hatcher and it was a treat to discover the translator was notable and had created such a wonderful life. Nice to meet her. :) Thanks again. 🙏 jengod (talk) 16:49, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

You're welcome, Jengod! So cool how things come together around here. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:40, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Jeanne C. Smith Carr

Sorry, I edited Jeanne C. Smith Carr before I spotted the {{in use}} tag. Apologies. — Hebrides (talk) 18:10, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Hebrides, no worries! I stepped out to run errands in the meantime. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:58, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

June music

story · music · places

Today's story is about the TFA, by sadly missed Vami_IV. In my support in 2018, I hoped to do justice to Schloss Köthen next - which I will begin today, finally, promised. Its Bachsaal was pictured to begin this year year. For more related thoughts and music, look on my talk for 1 June. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:24, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today, - listen to the music, beginning with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:43, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

My grandmother did some professional translations (German → Serbian) of Kafka. Thank you for letting me know about his 100 year anniversary. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
I am impressed! - On the occasion of your 17 years, Graham is turning a barrel-organ, - I uploaded a particularly happy pic, with the consent of his mother. I can also offer a brandnew GA, about a woman, - the one that was supposed to be deleted ;) - I took a pic of a black cat, but don't like it enough. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
From first edit to Good Article in less than a month -- impressive! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:25, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Well, that was an act of defiance. First I called for help, then several added facts, and that made it comprehensive ;) - New pics of spectacular weather. Another interesting person: Alexander Lang. Wish we knew about the four important women in his life, not just Katja Paryla and Annette Reber. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Defiance? Seems pretty collaborative to me. ;)
Lot of interlanguage links in Alexander's article, including Katja and Annette. Plenty of fodder for our polyglot friends. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:07, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
It was collaborative defiance against that deletion suggestion. Few of my articles were really deleted. - Today's story is about a tune used by Bach and Mozart. Call it defiance again, - compare the Gustav Mahler discussion. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:08, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Karl Friedrich Schinkel's Stage set for Mozart's Magic Flute (ca. 1815)
Ok; got it. Few of mine, too. Beautiful stage set for that 1815 production. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:13, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Please help me remember which 1815? - Today I wanted to write a happy song story, on a friend's birthday, but instead we have the word of thunder on top of it, which would have been better on 2 June, this year's first Sunday after Trinity. The new lilypond - thanks to DanCherek - is quite impressive. As my 2 Jun story said: Bach was fired up. - Today's Main page is rich in music, also Franz Liszt and a conductor. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:28, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Added here. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:39, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Got it, - yes, quite iconic. I think it was pictured in our music reader when I was little. - You may have seen a related sculpture in my pics, in the Schinkel church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a performance I watched in 2012 and made a DYK hook in 2017, and my prediction that we met a great singer was right ;) - if you have more time to read, there's a new GA, Cecelia Hall, and the de:Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine on the German Hauptseite, - both topics were stories before. + new pics --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:03, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
Nice story about Cecelia from North Carolina, and that's a great photo of Andreas. I've been enjoying beautiful weather here. Definitely signs of summer being around the corner. Looking forward to more grandma time this weekend. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:55, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata (and why does it come before the third?) - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up. I took a "cat" pic on 13 June, but it was a sculptured cat on a rooftop, - the moon above it, however, was real. I guess I won't upload it, but look forward to extremely wonderful food. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:17, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Extremely wonderful food makes for a grand life! I had that experience myself last night. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:32, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
... and here you go: new pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. - Imagine the cat in front of that moon ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
I frequently change the background image on my laptop, and today, it's your "Cornflowers in field, Malbach valley, Ehrenbach", though "Daisies and a dandelion, Idstein" was a close contender. "Indian appetizers, Idstein" looks yummy! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:19, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! I saw the daisies with dandelion after the 9 June service, it wasn't in focus, tried again on the way back, the dandelion was wilted and something wrong with the "Belichtung", - but then finally ;) - Today we have a centenarian story (documentation about it by Percy Adlon) and an article that had two sentences yesterday and was up for deletion, and needs a few more citations. - Took a cat pic, will come one of these days ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:22, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
Cat pic came, but I found no time to announce. - Today is a feast day for which Bach composed a chorale cantata in 1724 (and we had a DYK about it in 2012). Can't believe that Jodie Devos had to die, - don't miss her video from the Opéra-Comique at the end, - story to come. The weekend brought plenty of music sung and listened to, and some of it is reflected in the last two stories! + pics of good food with good company - enjoy your time away. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:14, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
The image in my DYK story is what I happened to see from my seat in a performance before the festival (with Anna Netrebko in the title role but sold out of course, and the other was possibly the icier Principessa anyway). I recommend the trailer video, with various scenes to the end of the music that Puccini was able to finish before he died in 1924. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:52, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
the sad story today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:55, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

Lady Baltimore

Sad to report, an article you helped me with a long time ago has had a sad ending. Lady Baltimore (eagle). She was euthanized last February, and her death is just now being reported. Incidentally, a photo I took of here roughly 9 years ago and placed in her Wikipedia article has been used, with photo credit, on this article:[1] Juneau Mike (talk) 06:15, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Oh, Mike, what a sad ending for that eagle. Thank you for letting me know. I remember working on that article with you. Lovely that the photo you took was used by the newspaper, with appropriate credit. So happy to hear from you, Mike; hope you are well. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:39, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

I heard you had a letter

Seems there was a response:[3]. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:39, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Gråbergs Gråa Sång. Thanks for reaching out to me, albeit this is my editor account and I think you're writing to me in my role as a Trustee of the Wikimedia Foundation Board. Just FYI, that account is here: RStephenson (WMF).
The Wikimedia Foundation's response that you inquired about is here: "Wikimedia Foundation statement on volunteer processes on reliable sources", By Wikimedia Foundation, 26 June 2024. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:54, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Request for Article Review

I hope this message finds you well. I have recently noticed your diligent work in reviewing pages on Wikipedia and would like to kindly request if you could review my article "Cherry on Top" and "Biniverse: The First Solo Concert"

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Acrom12 (talk) 17:49, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words, Acrom12, and for reaching out to me. However, I don't review present-day songs and concerts as I don't feel I have expertise in this area of Wikipedia. Sorry about that, but maybe one of my pagestalkers will take a look. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:05, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
Alright, thank you so much! Acrom12 (talk) 18:06, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
