Hi,

There's a reply to your comment on my talk page regards the Pat Kelly AFD. WLU (talk) 17:30, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Charles S. Panek

A hangon for a speedy needs to be placed on the article page. The article was actually checked before deletion and there was no entry set up for an AfD dicussionn when it was deleted. The article was tagged, but there was no discussion page. From looking at the logs, it looks like someone was setting up for the AfD while the article was being speedy deleted.

The article did not assert any notability for the person. The fact that it was being created is not a justification for not asserting the notability of the person. Stubs are fine as long as the notability is established. You are free to create the article again. However you need to assert how the person is notable. I suggest you look at WP:BIO for some ideas on what you need in the article. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:31, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Just curious as to why you did not voice a vote on the AFD for the article (Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/George_Bowman). There is another user now claiming a lack of Google hits as a reason to delete. As far as I know, that is irrelevant and both users are ignoring the references. Non substantive arguments. Robin, Ronin...what's the dif?

Oh, sorry about that. I'm pretty sure Robin is the Amuricanization of Ronin though. It's either Robin or Ronald. Which would you prefer?  ;-)

Refactoring is a form of editing whose goal is to improve readability while preserving meaning. Discussions which are general and unrelated directly to and not in response to Keep or delete !votes are better served on the talk page. This is acceptable in order to retain consistency. thanks--Hu12 (talk) 21:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD comment

Saw your question about a philately wiki on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of errors on Portuguese ex-Colonies stamps which I did not know about until I noticed a link removal following the close. Indeed there is: Wikipedia:WikiProject Philately and there is also Portal:Philately. Maybe you have an interest. (I respond where I post!) ww2censor (talk) 23:02, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Was mainly responding rhetorically, and my brief response might not have conveyed it. I was saying that the information might have been more appropriate for a specialized Wiki, but not for Wikipedia. -- RoninBK T C 09:29, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

RE: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/War of Empires

Hi. Sorry for the delay in responding. To answer the question, yes I did review the discussion page as part of review the AFD. I agree with the fact that it should not have been moved, but its content was reviewed. There is the question of whether there were editors would did not see it, and so may have had their opinions swayed. I think that this is unlikely because the reasoning on the discussion page was mainly, as noted at ANI, "please keep" or rather "I play this game so please keep" plus "we are working on making it better". I hope that may allay an fears you have, but please let me know if I can clarify further. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 20:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

FYI

Please note this page where an editor has opened up a Deletion Review of an AfD debate you were involved in. Whilst such a request is clearly within their rights that editor has only contacted one or two of those who took part during the AfD process. It would in my view be more appropriate to include a notice to all persons (including yourself) that were interested in the first Article for Deletion debate, and I provide such a notice and link here. Best wishes --VS talk 22:15, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Non-notable Bible Divisions

Hello. On a recent AfD, you proposed that a guideline be created to cover articles written on a chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse, or lection-by-lection, basis about the bible.

The proposed guideline has been written here - Wikipedia:Organisation of Bible articles, and I wonder if you would like to comment on it.

LadyofPain.jpg

Hi. I have disputed the fair use rationale you applied to Image:LadyofPain.jpg. The concern is that it inappropriate because the article is not about the magazine issue, but rather about the character in the broader context of D&D. Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair point. I admit that I made a few assumptions regarding this image in particular, I had tagged a large number of images that day. I will attempt to rewrite the rationale to accurately reflect its use, -- RoninBK T C 07:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. You should also see the thread on my talk page with User:Shemeska; he, too, has said he'll take another shot at a rationale. See also, my revised comments on the image page. Cheers, Jack Merridew 07:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Skat Bros. AfD

I'm considering doing a non-admin close on the Skat Bros. AfD with a consensus to delete. If you'd like to copy some of the info for a new article I'll gladly give you some to do it, but this AfD is part of the backlog and I'm considering closing it today.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 19:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I take that back. Non-Admins shouldn't close AfDs for deletion. I apologize for misreading the AfD.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 20:30, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't have any investment into the article, and I don't object to its deletion. I merely pointed out that the article title was misspelled, and that the band itself might have a claim of notability, but I do not have enough familiarity with the band to write a passable stub. -- RoninBK T C 01:48, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:Logo groupe bull.jpg

Hi, I was told to put the licencing info on the Bull logo. This kind of picture is of course rather complex on that matter (at least for me). So I just checked a couple of other logo pages and looked what were the licencing terms. Namely I checked Image:Google.png, which has {{Trademark}} and {{PD-textlogo}}, and Image:IBM_logo.svg, which has {{Trademark}} and {{PD-textlogo}}. So I ended up putting {{Trademark}} and {{PD-textlogo}}, simple!

Now I see that Image:Apple-logo.png has {{Non-free logo}}, Image:Dell_logo.svg has {{Non-free logo}}, and Image:Microsoft_logo.svg has {{Non-free logo}} and {{Non-free media rationale}}. So maybe this {{Non-free logo}} is better. If you think so, please go ahead and just add it to Image:Logo groupe bull.jpg :-)

Pieleric (talk) 12:49, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, {{Non-free logo}} is the correct usage here, and it's the one that currently exists on the Bull logo. I'm not sure why the {{PD--textlogo}} in particular is being used at those other images, I am going to look into that. You might want to ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions if you have any further questions. -- RoninBK T C 13:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
After more reading, what I realised is that the Bot which added the original warning message said that the fair use rationale was missing, even if it was there with {{Logo fur}}. That confused me. I guess it was more just a false warning. I just completed a bit more the rationale of fair use, and it should be really ok now... Pieleric (talk) 13:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I added the {{logo fur}} after the Bot added its messages. Either way, it's good now -- RoninBK T C 13:30, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

New message

Hello, Roninbk. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Interwiki_Userpages.
You may remove this notice at any time by removing the {{newmessages}} template.

Hi. With regards to your closure of the above, I first wanted to let you know that the template used at the top is {{at}}. You evidently placed {{ab}} at both top and bottom, which is why it did not close in standard form. I have repaired this, so this is just for future reference. I'd also like to ask you about your decision to close as redirect. Other than the nominator, who wanted the article deleted, both participants to that discussion argued for merge, which of course relocates material from one article to another. Is there a reason to close as redirect instead? :) If you choose to reconsider your closure, I'd be happy to help with the merging if you're not experienced with those tags. It's not a complicated procedure, but I've found that it can be daunting for people who have not done it before. I'm watching your page, so if you'd like to reply, I'll see it here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:11, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I apologize for the typographical error in the closure template. As to the choice to redirect instead of merge, I did not see any substantial mergeable content in the redirected article, otherwise I'd have done so myself. No content has been deleted, the original content still exists in the original article history, so anyone who wants to merge material into the article can certainly do so. If it would help to edit my closing statement to reflect my interpretation, I can certainly do so. -- RoninBK T C 18:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
No apology necessary. As I said, the information was for future reference. :) If it was a typo, then you probably already knew the proper template and just failed to notice that the AfD had not closed. That sounds like a good reason to choose to redirect rather than merge. In general, I think it's a good idea to explain why you close an AfD in a way that seems inconsistent with consensus. I believe it can save some headache down the road. I don't know if it's necessary to go back and revise this one in particular, but you may find it helpful in the future. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:32, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Article rescue

What can I help you with? Hmm...I recall that the idea was to keep things simple. Come up with something interesting that would get people to rescue articles. It looks like a lot of rules have accumulated over time. That might be a consequence of the fact that Wikipedia is now much larger and more complicated than it was back then. If I remember correctly, it was Mindspillage who started the page. I think the judges on that list were simply the first to express interest and wanted to help out. Let me know if I can give you more background into the project. --HappyCamper 16:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Use of the Rescue template

Hi, thankyou for placing the rescue tag on Media representation of Hugo Chávez and Re-exportation - it would appear that they articles have been kept! However, could I please ask you to place the tag within the two sets of <!-- --> tags in future, as I have highlighted below:

<!-- Please do not remove or change this AfD message until the issue is settled -->
{{AfDM|page=Robin Sage|date=2007 September 11|substed=yes}}
{{Rescue}}
<!-- End of AfD message, feel free to edit beyond this point -->

Adding it within the two sets of <!-- --> tags will also allow the closing admin to automatically remove the tag when they close the AfD. If you have any other questiosn please let me know - Fosnez (talk) 07:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to get some consensus before we start doing that, because that contradicts what the AfD template specifically states. My understanding is that you are not supposed to place anything before the "feel free to edit beyond this point" message. I'd support placing a message in the template such as "Administrators: Please remove this tag as well when closing this AfD" -- RoninBK T C 04:17, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi, placing the {{rescue}} tag within the afd section has been standard operating instruction for nearly 6 months now. The main reason for it being included in the tags is so that the admin can easily remove the template when the afd is closed as keep (Weather they know they are removing it or not). This automatic removal is be design, so that it dosn't get left on the article after the afd is close, as unfortunatly happend with your two rescues. (No offence intended) I hope this explains? - Fosnez (talk) 04:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
First off, the Chavez article was tagged by User:Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles, not I. Secondly, while that may have been the case internally to the project, I don't believe that Wikipedia policy/guidelines would support the project's interpretation. I don't think it's a good idea to run contrary to policy/guidelines just to "trick" an admin into removing a tag that he/she should be removing anyways as a part of the closing process. But then again, all I was asking for is to open u a discussion, and get community consensus. -- RoninBK T C 05:09, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I meant no disrespect, I must have misread who tagged that article. Perhaps it would be best to raise this as an issue on the Rescue Squadron or Rescue Tag talk pages to begin with, then if you do not feel compfortable with the answeres from that you recieve there, well, i don't quite know what the next step is. But i am sure we can cross that bridge when we get to it. - Fosnez (talk) 05:59, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 04:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
