Your GA nomination of Recurring elements in the Final Fantasy series
The article Recurring elements in the Final Fantasy series you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Recurring elements in the Final Fantasy series for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. This edition of the Editing newsletter includes information the Wikipedia:Talk pages project, an effort to help contributors communicate on wiki more easily. The central project page is on MediaWiki.org.
- Reply tool: This is available as a Beta Feature at the four partner wikis (Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian Wikipedias). The Beta Feature will get new features soon. The new features include writing comments in a new visual editing mode and pinging other users by typing
@
. You can test the new features on the Beta Cluster. Some other wikis will have a chance to try the Beta Feature in the coming months. - New requirements for user signatures: Soon, users will not be able to save invalid custom signatures in Special:Preferences. This will reduce signature spoofing, prevent page corruption, and make new talk page tools more reliable. Most editors will not be affected.
- New discussion tool: The Editing team is beginning work on a simpler process for starting new discussions. You can see the initial design on the project page.
- Research on the use of talk pages: The Editing team worked with the Wikimedia research team to study how talk pages help editors improve articles. We learned that new editors who use talk pages make more edits to the main namespace than new editors who don't use talk pages.

Some suggestions
You have some articles that are 95% of the way to GA I wanted to point out. The biggest one by far is Recurring elements in the Final Fantasy series, which is a masterpiece. I dream of the day it is a Featured Article, but I would absolutely love for it to be a Good Article. Two others that are at the one yard line are Noctis Lucis Caelum, Characters of Final Fantasy XV, as well as Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy Legend III. There are also about five others I could find, but these are the big ones that I think you could basically punt to GA status, and no one else can because you are “The” contributor to them. Just some thoughts! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:42, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- My favorite article we have will now be a GA! Hurray!! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:37, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- So we are eight Good Articles now away from 100 Final Fantasy GA! My articles Rikku and Rinoa Heartilly should pass, so that makes six. You have about a dozen B’s you’ve heavily contributed still in the project, and probably another B Emerging in your sandbox. Might I trouble you to nominate one or two of your final fantasy B’s for GA status? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:49, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: I honestly forget which. I could guess one of those you meant was Noctis Lucis Caelum, but what about the others?
- And something else. Please don't take offence. I'm not sure Shirō Hamaguchi should have been nominated in its current state. Quite apart from the warning label on top, I noticed two duplicate citations (Square Enix Music Online and Video Game Music Online are related websites and carried over the profile from one to the other), and I don't see any interviews, only reviews of albums. Plus, most of the credits and some of the main information in that article is uncited. I support this drive, but this looks more than premature. Alas, real-world concerns mean I can't dedicate too much time to Wikipedia at the moment, so source hunts and taking on too many GAs aren't practicable for me. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:45, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, some of these B’s are not as strong as I had anticipated, I might pull back on them. One problem is I am also running out of time myself, I was just hired to read an audiobook, so my rewrite an article from scratch time is going down :) But I want us to get over this 50% GA thing before I take a break for a bit. The Barnstar of High Culture | ||
I, Judgesurreal777, Hereby award you the The Barnstar of High Culture for your work on the drive. As I have said before, without your help, your super human ability to create quality RS content, and to help others build up articles, none of this would have happened. We would be sitting happily at the one yard line forever, with a few random Stubs, Starts, cleanup tags, and not nearly enough GA’s and FA’s. As when I texted you in our “Let’s Talk” discussion, I said if you decided to help me, we could achieve amazing things, and without you it wouldn’t happen. Well it happened, and its mostly thanks to you. Take a break as you need to, but always remember to come back and keep going! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:51, 18 June 2020 (UTC) |
I know you are very busy, but I wanted to just throw this in your mind for consideration. You have done a lot of work on this article, and could be a potentially easy GA nomination for you, since it looks more like an FA than a GA already. It would also allow us to finally have a characters of final fantasy VII good topic! I’m going to try to nominate Dragon Quest XI if I am allowed to, so that the most viewed articles we have are all of high quality. Again, just a suggestion! SaGa Good Topic?
Pardon me for noticing, but it seems like your building a Good Topic, is that so? You’re doing so well with these SaGa articles and have many that are GA ready, is that what you plan? Just curious! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:22, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: I'm just going to be handling Romancing SaGa for the moment. I need to take a rest from serious or SQEX work after RS, Live A Live, and that dratted XV character article. I almost took on all the Romancing SaGa titles, but felt that was too much so I put sources for RS2 and did some work on RS3. If you like, I can also find sources for FFL2 for any missing bits. I may return, but for a series as large as SaGa, if I really want to make something of it and I'm not passionately invested, or have enough time, I need to pick a place to leave off. Romancing SaGa seems a good place to leave off when it's all done. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:06, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah finding the sources would be good if you decide to take a wiki break for a bit, that way I or others can continue where you left off. You should also decide how you feel about people nominating your book length GA’s that you have contributed to, such as these. If you are fine or not with people (like me) nominating them for GA. I’m not looking to get some great award or pat on the back from nominating your GA’s, I just want the project to hit milestones of quality. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:10, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- You might also want to take a quick look for the SaGa series article as well, see if there has been any coverage of it, by now someone should have said something! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:12, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- I have little to no opinion on the matter. I don't mind people nominating articles I've worked on a lot or even written entire, which happened with both Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort by a community, and if something isn't taken on but can be by another editor, I'm happy for someone else to be taken on. I've had several articles I've worked on a lot nominated by other editors after my time, and I don't mind. I even did it myself with the 2013 Tomb Raider article. The only time I've gotten tetchy was with the arbitrary adding of staff or rewording something when the sources don't support those staff or that interpretation. I've met some nasty examples of users trying to "own" articles or twist information to fit a particular view, and I don't intend to follow their example.
- And I considered doing the SaGa series, but...it's just a gigantic job as there is so much to cover for a thirteen-entry series with associated media, an extensive development history, unique gameplay, and a lack of English sources for a good chunk of its history. Just that article would rank alongside my work on the Koudelka/Shadow Hearts series entire (hoping to make the series article my next project and round that out as a GT). I decided doing one game would be simpler. --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:19, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

So
Great work getting those GA’s done! It helps the drive a lot, and I wanted to ask if you would mind if I nominated either Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV or Noctis Lucis Caelum, if you are tired out from all the nominating. There are few articles left from the Final Fantasy series that aren’t GA’s, so it makes these kinda a high value. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 13:16, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: Don't mind at all. I've spent too long with Final Fantasy XV as I did with Sakura Wars, and the subject leaves me cold. I want to focus on other things, as well as my work outside Wikipedia. --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:53, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

- Well anyway, thank you for letting me nominate the articles do you work so hard on, it will help this new drive tremendously! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:34, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- How about Final Fantasy Legends 2 & 3? They look pretty good, could they get nominated as well? I got the Monsters article to GA! I could keep going... Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:03, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: I'd hold off on them. They need tidying, and some of the stuff there cites magazines I may be able to find and clarify. I've come across a few articles where a review said the opposite to what the editor put in. Found that with Unlimited Saga. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:34, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Confused about Japanese translation
In the past weeks, I've tried expanding more the CyberConnect2, especially the .hack games. When writing the character Haseo, I thought he was created by director Hiroshi Matsuyama based on his comments in English sites. However, when reading this I kinda found a commentary involving novelist Tatsuya Hamasaki but it's hard to get with google translate. Could you give it a look? It kinda seems like the two talk about how his PC evolves alongside his maturity. Also, when it comes to the character I managed to find he was created by a person named Hosokawa but sadly the artbook with all of concept arts was never translated. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 20:14, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: Basically, Matsuyama is talking about having the basics down for something before doing anything else, something he shared with Hiroto Niisato (staff member, needs research). He says the core theme of the story and character narrative is personal growth and cooperation. They designed Haseo's character traits was decided from the outset, as was him featuring as both game and anime protagonist (at different points in his game life) to draw in different audiences. His bangs (hair bangs, I mean) symbolise his continued immaturity. Due to the massive scale of the story, and its spreading across multiple media, Matsuyama brought Hamasaki in to help with the writing due to his pedigree of working on the previous .hack project. Hamasaki wrote the game's script so the team could focus on developing the game. Under Hamasaki's suggestion, production of two different writing teams worked on the game and the anime.
- It then notes at the bottom that it's an excerpt from the .hack//G.U. Complete Setting Document Collection Archive 2. I think that's its title, there's a link to its two editions at the bottom of the post.
- Hope this helps. --ProtoDrake (talk) 11:12, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks so do you suggest crediting Hamasaki as another creator behind Haseo? I don't know how it works but it was something similar with Kite (.hack) where the director worked alongside a famous write to write the first .hack protagonist.Tintor2 (talk) 14:48, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell from that excerpt, Matsuyama created the character, and Hamasaki wrote the script, but it was Matsuyama who crafted the character that we see in those games. It's a bit of a case of semantics and interpretation, but I'd credit Matsuyama as creator. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:19, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

- Found some extra commentary about Haseo's final armor from the series (it's simply called 5th where he looks like a samurai) here but I can't understand well if Matsuyama is talking about its making or not. I tried with google translate but I barely get it. The fourth form is called "Xth" but it doesn't seem it's the focus of the article. The only thing I kinda get is that they decided to Xth white in order to discard his past black blocking in some sort of growth. Sorry for bothering you with this again.Tintor2 (talk) 19:50, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I checked again and when mentioning the Xth and 5th forms they are only mentioning possible merchandise. Still, it's kinda weird I can't find info about the 5th considering it was one of the selling points of the last GU game and how vocal is Matsuyama.Tintor2 (talk) 03:14, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
I managed to find two pages of an artbook I found two scans from an artbook but not the translations sadly here and here. It seems commentary about the 5th form and the default weapon Gate of Uroboros. Could you give it a brief translation? Sorry for bothering again.Tintor2 (talk) 01:48, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: I had as good a look as I could. Nothing that I can distinguish about the character's new design. The most I can distinguish is that the original Gate of Ouroboros as designed by Senchiro Hosokawa was eight different weapons, but at Matsumaya's suggestion it became its current eight-piece single weapon. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:13, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

New referencing style
Earlier this month, I updated my Monster Truck Madness GA so that the {{rp}} template (and its q= function) can be used in conjunction with one source multiple times to convey information decently. Here's excerpts using this technique in action:
"Monster Truck Madness offers twelve monster trucks, including Bigfoot, Grave Digger and Snake Bite,[a]
like BC Place[1]: BC Place description and Tacoma Dome;[1]: Tacoma Dome description
themed after Arizona,[1]: Arizona description the highlands,[1]: Highlands Rally description and the Yucatán.[1]: Yucatan Adventure description In Tournament, the player participates in a custom series of events with computer opponents.[1]: Tournament menu "
- ^ a b c d e f g Terminal Reality (August 31, 1996). Monster Truck Madness (Microsoft Windows). Microsoft.
- ^ The other monster trucks are Bear Foot, Boogey Van, Carolina Crusher, Monster Patrol, Overkill, Power Wheels, Rampage, Samson, and Wildfoot.[1]: Races menu (Pick A Truck)
I think it could be a useful reference style. It ain't perfect though, so it's optional. iaspostb□x 07:47, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Need translation
Sorry for bothering but when expanding Ovan (.hack) I found this commentary about the creator Matsuyama but I can't understand it even with google translate. I can't tell if he is talking about the making of the character or just joking. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:13, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: It's nothing to do specifically with Ovan. It's basically a story about Matsuyama and Niisato, thrashing out basic story beats surrounding Haseo's personality, and how the production was handled. There's nothing about how Ovan was developed and portrayed. At least it's confirmation that Ovan was present from the outset of production. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:41, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks.Tintor2 (talk) 14:27, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

On 25 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Unlimited Saga, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2002 video game Unlimited Saga was one of five games planned for use in a Sony promotional lottery that was cancelled due to tensions between the U.S. and Iraq? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Unlimited Saga. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Unlimited Saga), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Akira Fudo
After Devilman Crybaby became GA and found more reception to Devilman products I went into creating Akira Fudo's article yesterday. I don't know if something is lacking in regards to making of the character (besides the multiple voice actors Akira had) but I found this interview with Go Nagai from the Amon spinoff OVA. Sadly it's all in Japanese so I have no idea what he says. If I turn on captions, Youtube adds literally a transcription but in Japanese. If you have the time, could you give it a look to see if the article can be expanded? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 17:31, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: Can't help with this one. I'm afraid I'm terrible with spoken Japanese, and when I've used video interviews it's after I've found summaries or subs for them. However, I did come across something else you might use. It's the translation of an interview (spread across two posts of this thread) between Nagai and Hideaki Anno from the artbook Devilman Tabulae Anatomicae Kaitaishinsho. From a brief glance, Nagai does discuss some of the origin and thinking behind Devilman. --ProtoDrake (talk) 17:42, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- No problem. Still, thanks for this. I'll try to make good use of this.Tintor2 (talk) 17:48, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks again for that source. However, I think the reference is lacking publisher and isbn since I don't get Japanese. Could you check it?Tintor2 (talk) 22:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: This is the book's citation version: デビルマン解体新書. Kodansha. February 10, 1999. ISBN 4-0633-0070-6.. This is Kodansha's store/archive page for it. I think you can use this. The Tabulae Anatomicae title appears to be an alternate English title. --ProtoDrake (talk) 11:51, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother with another translation. I've created an article for one of Yakuza's leads Haruka Sawamura who becomes playable in the fifth with her actress doing some songs. I happened to find interview with the cast here and apparently here but I can't tell what Kugumiya is saying about her role in the game. I don't know if you remember but when I expanded the game's remake there was also commentary about whether or not the cast had or not to remake the script but I didn't find too much about the actress.Tintor2 (talk) 16:49, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: Since those are video interviews and I'm not good at spoken Japanese, I can't translate. The PSBlog article doesn't have any interviews at all. It's all descriptive PR with no dev-relevant information at all. --ProtoDrake (talk) 17:24, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Reply tool
The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.
- More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
- Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
- Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[1]
The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).
The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.
New requirements for user signatures
- The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
- Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.
Next: New discussion tool
Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.

Are you busy?
Hello! It seems you take 24% of authorship of Final Fantasy VII. Awesome. Now, this article has taken a beating. Promoted to GA, then a review, then promoted to FA, then demoted, restarting the process all over again. I was wondering if you could give your help, or guidance, on Paper Mario: The Origami King. I'm in the process of making this article FA status, and is currently in peer review. I've gotten a couple of reviews, and they all agree that there are some special cases here. My biggest concern right now is, what should be done about gameplay? It features an entirely new style of combat, and we can't just simply "explain" this overly-complicated ring-style combat. What would you do?
Obviously, you didn't do this on your own. PresN is my "mentor" per se, for this process. I tried to contact Masem, but was left unanswered. Le Panini Talk 04:55, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi there
Long time no talk. After that .hack//GU nomination, I worked in The King of Fighters XIV article and made it GA. Now I'm aiming to make Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 but I don't know if it needs some touches after its copyedit or any information regarding Famitsu to provide more coverage (the game got one big DLC, and a Switch port). Also I added a mention of Dante to the article Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne in the plot section. I thought about Raidou but I don't know how different is his role in the game's redition. Anyway, take care.Tintor2 (talk) 16:30, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- About Storm 4, I think everything is well covered but there is something that I couldn't find anywhere. There is some censorship in the game when two characters lose an arm. However, when showing it later the two still have arms in the next scene but covered in black. I tried asking in reddit but there is still no response. Then again, I guess it's just a new censorship law considering gore in T rated games is not allowed similar to Sephiroth's actions in the Shinra building in Remake.Tintor2 (talk) 20:30, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: I looked. There's absolutely nothing. --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:52, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks still.Tintor2 (talk) 21:29, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry for bothering again but as I edited Kimihiro Watanuki, I noticed there was little content in the article about his creation. I wondered if you might know about it since you edited two works from Clamp where he is featured, Blood-C and its movie sequel. Anyway, cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 22:39, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2:, This page is an interview from a CLAMP magazine, and has related links in the page to other translated interviews. You might find something in there. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:10, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

Oh yeah that site. Now I feel old. I already added that from the book Clamp no Kiseki in Watanuki's creation years ago. Still thanks.Tintor2 (talk) 23:25, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- Managed to add more involving the actors. Still, it sure feels weird when the character's name literally mean "April 1st".Tintor2 (talk) 12:42, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Watanuki became GA :D I'm not planning to turn Subaru Sumeragi into GA considering his new series is coming soon but I just found out he had a liveaction film (even more obscure than the one from 1996). Passing through the wiki, I found a lot of commentary from a Japanese book about the cast [2], [3] [4] By any chance does this mention something about Subaru or Seishiro's actors and roles? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:27, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
