Hello Pearll's sun,

You are receiving this notification because you signed up as a translator to Russian on Meta. The page Grants:IdeaLab/Towards a New Wikimania/Outcomes is available for translation. You can translate it here:

The priority of this page is high. The deadline for translating this page is 2016-02-09.

Hi translators, this is Jethro. The page here describes the outcomes of a recent consultation on Wikimania and movement conferences, for which the WMF will be publicizing on 8 Feburary. There are many very important changes coming for Wikimania beginning in 2018, and it's important that contributors from as many language backgrounds as possible are aware of them. In my judgment, it will be most important to translate the sections labeled "Summary," and "Next steps" be prioritized, but any translation you can provide for the more specific details on the page will be appreciated. Please contact me if you have any questions about the translation material. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 21:24, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey translators! This page is actually a hub for several pages related to the current Inspire Campaign, an event associated with IdeaLab to invite editors to propose ideas along a specific theme. Because we ran a campaign last year, and some materials are being reused, some pages may not require much translation. Some pages, however, are completely new for this campaign. In terms of what pages are most important, the main landing page (Grants:IdeaLab/Inspire) and the FAQ page (Grants:IdeaLab/Inspire/FAQ should be prioritized if possible. Please let me know if you have any questions on the discussion page for the translation hub. Thank you so much, and I am very grateful for any time you can give. -- I JethroBT (WMF) (talk)

References on talk pages

[edit]

Hi there, unrelated to Kabali, when you post references on talk pages like here, there's no need to use <ref></ref> tags. When you use ref tags, the talk page wants to display the references at the bottom of the page, so those references wind up bleeding over into other conversations that may appear on the talk page days, months, or even years later. One workaround is to use the {{reflist-talk}} template (as you'll note I've applied for you and others at Talk:Kabali (film)), but that template can make discussions hard to follow. If you just bracket the links, they wind up taking far less space on the page like this: [2][3][4]. And if you want the URLs to show, just paste them twice within the bracket with a space between, like this: http://www.financialexpress.com/photos/entertainment-gallery/338580/sultan-box-office-collections-salman-khan-burnishes-take-ups-total-to-rs-297-90-crore/ or you could label them, ex: Financial Express. You can look at my comment's source code to see how it's done, if you're interested. Obviously you're free to format them however you wish, but it would be appreciated if you'd please use the {{reflist-talk}} template to prevent the bleedover I mentioned, if you choose to use the <ref></ref> tags. Thanks and regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:18, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Superhit, failure, flop, all-time blockbuster status!"

[edit]

Re: this, I'm not sure what inspired this decision, but we don't republish as facts subjective declarations made by film outlets. "Blockbuster" has no academic value and only serves to promote the film. We deal in objective terms. Film review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes uses "Fresh" and "Rotten" as its cutesy in-house measurement, but we don't say "Rotten Tomatoes declared the film rotten." Wikipedia would become a laughingstock if we did that. In film articles we might convey Rotten Tomatoes' findings, but we would do so in an objective way that provides significant academic context.

Finding Dory received positive reviews from critics. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 94% based on 245 reviews and an average rating of 7.7/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Funny, poignant, and thought-provoking, Finding Dory delivers a beautifully animated adventure that adds another entertaining chapter to its predecessor's classic story."[5] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 77 out of 100 based on 48 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews."

I don't see any gushing praise in that write-up. It omits biased subjective labels and presents information in a neutral way, which is what we are supposed to be doing here. And even if Metacritic's evaluation indicated "universal critical acclaim" (as it sometimes does), we'd find a neutral way to convey that, because "universal acclaim" is unachievable hyperbole. Surely somebody didn't like it. It would be appreciated if you'd please avoid this in the future. And for the record, I've scrubbed this stuff out of scores of Indian film articles for the last 2 years. This has nothing to do with you or Kabali. [6][7][8]. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:18, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I just added the info thinking it may do good to the article but if wiki's policy is otherwise then no issues for me. I have nothing personal towards kabali nor any other article here so all is well. Thanks. --Pearll's SunTALK 13:31, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:29, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
