Question from Linwoods96 (20:31, 15 February 2024)

[edit]

Hello. This is daunting. I am an entertainment writer and editor. How do you suggest I get started on writing an article on a well established music producer? --Linwoods96 (talk) 20:31, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Linwoods96, and welcome to Wikipedia! Writing an article is a particularly daunting first task. My advice is to do all of your research to find the secondary sources that will support the article, before you write a word of the article itself. I also advise that you read WP:BACKWARD and (just in case) WP:SIMPLECOI. If you decide you want to proceed with the article, feel free to reply here with a list of the sources you plan to use, and I can offer advice on whether they are likely to be sufficient. (That way you can avoid wasting energy on the article if the topic isn't ready for Wikipedia yet.) Good luck and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:57, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Linwoods96, thanks for sharing these. To help you look at them with "wiki eyes", I have examined all of them in a source table. First, for context: there are two kinds of things a source can do on Wikidpedia. 1, It can WP:VERIFY that a fact is true; or, 2, it can demonstrate that the topic it's about is "notable" (which is Wikipedia's term for when something has been written about enough that there is material for an article on it). Once you have a handful of sources that accomplish task #2 (establishing notability), a wider range of sources can be OK for task #1 (verifying a specific fact). Right now, before you start writing, we're just trying to do task #2. So, here's how the sources you provide look for that:

Source assessment table: prepared by User:LEvalyn
Source Independent? Reliable? Significant coverage? Count source toward GNG?
Discogs entry for Klubjumpers Yes No contents are user-generated No only a database entry, not an article No
"Billboard chart producers Sam Michaels and Daniel Mathews make up the production duo known as Klubjumpers" Yes Yes Yes Yes
Whatcha Say Wikipedia article Yes No Wikipedia can never be a source for Wikipedia! No mentions their name but nothing else No
Sam Michaels SoundBetter profile No it's his own profile ? doesn't appear to have editorial oversight ? brief, but it does have some details No
"Programmer Dan Mathews Makes Guest Appearance On Pitbull’s Globalization Radio" ? no byline; looks like promo rather than independent reporting Yes ? also brief yet with some info that could be shared ? Unknown
"EDM Artist NOAH's "Keep On Movin'" Becomes Both a Billboard and UK Music Week Dance Chart Success " No PR Newswire is always promo, never independent reporting Yes No not even a sentence about them, just mentions their names in a list No
This table may not be a final or consensus view; it may summarize developing consensus, or reflect assessments of a single editor. Created using {{source assess table}}.
At this stage, it seems possible to me that there are enough sources out there to write a wiki article, but we haven't found them yet. I'd suggest you look for a few more sources that are of the same caliber as the IndiePulse Music one: something with an independent reporter credited as the author, which focuses in detail on Klubjumpers. Be careful that you're not just finding press releases (like the PR Newswire one) that have been reprinted; press releases can sometimes be used to verify information, but never to establish notability. Good luck and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 00:35, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello LeValyn: I have written my text for the wikipedia page on Klubjumpers. There are two forthcoming articles that are being written as I type that I will use those links to help prove notoriety. I'm just not sure on how I can pour the text into the right format of Wikipedia. How do I access the templates? My sections are: Beginning, career, 2000s, 20210s, 2020s. Origins, Awards, Discography, Labels.
See below my draft text minus my links which are in the original draft on my computer. Please advise. Thanks. Lin. Woods (Linwoods96)
Klubjumpers Wikipedia Page Draft written by Lin. Woods
Beginning
Klubjumpers is a Billboard charting American Electronic DJ and Production duo with over thirty years of experience in music entertainment. The Grammy Award winning duo is comprised of biological brothers Dan Mathews and Sam Michaels. The siblings were born and raised in Southern California but became renowned re-mix hit making producers in Texas. They currently reside in and have their studio headquarters in San Antonio, Texas.
Career
Dan Mathews and Sam Michaels, started their careers entertainment in the 1990s. Dan Mathews was a radio DJ at KPRR at 102.1 FM "Power 102.1", a commercial radio station owned by iHeart Radio in El Paso, TX while younger brother Sam Michaels was honing his craft as a keyboard player.
In 1993 the Dan and Same decided to expand their love of music from just playing the hits to creating music. That’s when they formed Klubjumpers. In the beginning they collaborated with independent artists and produced re-mixes for Dance and Latin music, but soon their repertoire expanded to include R& B and Hip Hop. As their reputation grew as producers of hit re-mixes, so did the caliber of artists seeking out Klubjumpers’ production skills.
By the 2000s Klubjumpers were on their way to becoming Gold and Platinum music producers collaborating and making re-mix hits across musical genres for some of the biggest names in the music business.
Klubjumpers has produced hits for notable top charting artists, including Jason Derulo’s RIAA Certified Gold hit “What ‘Cha Say?” and “In My Head,” Enrique Iglesias “Me Digas Que No,” Michael Buble’s “Crazy Love,” “Baby You Got What It Takes” (WBR) (which went double Platinum), re-mix of “Admit It” by Marcus Houston.
Additionally, Klubjumpers has produced an eclectic list of diverse hits for such artists as Snoop Dogg, Offset, Gloria Estefan, Rickey Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Danity Kane, Mariah Carey, Pussy Cat Dolls, Black Eyed Peas, Pit Bull, Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Christina Milian, Frankie J, Eminem, Trailor Park Boys, 3LW, Az-yet, and Madonna.
Not limited to producing hits heard on the radio, Klubjumpers’ has had their music used in the commercial world as well. The duo earned a Visual Sounds award with Salme Dahlstrom’s “C’mon Y’all” for 2013 BEST MUSIC USE  in the Cover Girls Intense Shadow Blast commercial which featured actress and TV personality Drew Barrymore.
Their production on this song was also featured in a commercial for Subaru and the Television Series “Charlies Angels” and “Saving Hope, “ as well as in the movie “Every Day” starring Helen Hunt.
Klubjumpers has produced over 80 Billboard charting songs and Gold and Platinum Records. The duo currently resides in and has its studio headquarters in San Antonio, Texas.

Hi Linwoods96, if you want to start writing an article I suggest using the wizard. Do note that you can't cite forthcoming articles as sources, especially for notability, since only a published source will work. Also, the draft you've posted here has a lot of WP:FLOWERY language which is not a good fit or an encyclopedia. It can take practice to write in the dry, just-the-facts style of an encyclopedia article; I suggest seriously scrutinizing what you've written. When you use the wizard, it will make a draft that you can edit over time and hit "submit" when it is ready for someone to review. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:38, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice and direction. Linwoods96 (talk) 18:14, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

how do I save an article draft so I can come back to it later? --ScottMcKelveyCM (talk) 20:57, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ScottMcKelveyCM, and welcome to Wikipedia! Looking at your edits, it looks like you have figured out how, and have successfully submitted your draft for review through AfC. It may take a little while to be reviewed, since drafts are reviewed in no particular order, but you're welcome to keep working on it if you like while it's waiting. Something I notice at a glance is that the cited sources are all relatively local and Princeton-oriented; if you're able to cite any coverage from a larger newspaper, especially a national one, that would make it clearer that the subject meets wikipedia's notability criteria for articles. I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have about editing wikipedia, and for a faster response you can also always ask at the Teahouse. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:11, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Unianceguidance (09:13, 23 May 2024)

[edit]

Hi. Im trying to make a page for a young girl kashvi khurana who is the youngest adaptive clothing designer in india. Can u help me --Unianceguidance (talk) 09:13, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Unianceguidance, and welcome to Wikipedia! This sounds like a challenging article to write, but it might be possible. Before you do any writing, the most important thing will be to make sure you have independent, reliable news coverage that you can use as the "source" for any information in the article. If you want to post here with links to the sources you've found, I can offer my opinion about whether they're likely to be enough for an article. For general article-writing advice, I suggest reading WP:BACKWARD and WP:YFA. You should also make sure you're following the instructions about conflicts of interest at WP:COI; if this is someone you know, that is regarded as a conflict of interest, and you'll need to use the WP:AFC process to make an article. Good luck, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:23, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yorkshire grit, and welcome to Wikipedia! I left a message on your Talk page with some starting pointers. You may also find your homepage here useful. But at the most basic level, to edit any article look for the word "edit" or a little pencil icon and you can start improving what you're reading right away. Hi Nikewolf, and welcome to Wikipedia! I left a message on your talk page with some places to start. You may also find your homepage here useful. [edit]

Hello, i am sorry if i disturb you. But do you know how to cite references in wikipedia mobile.

Thanks! --MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti (talk) 14:36, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello MahmoudAbbasAlDilfti, happy to help! Adding a reference on mobile works roughly like this. Basically, you find the pencil icon on the top to enter "edit" mode, and then tap within the text for where you want the citation to go and hit the quotation-mark button to add the citation. Let me know if you have any problems with that and I'm happy to help troubleshoot. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:43, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from DanicaShardae201 (20:59, 3 June 2024)

[edit]

Hello!

I was reading through info about vocal range and found the category "singers with a 5-octave vocal range". I know one of the artists I listen to belongs in that list but he doesn't have a personal wikipedia page, only a band one. Is there a way for me to update the list to include him without writing an entire page? Thanks --DanicaShardae201 (talk) 20:59, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DanicaShardae201, and thanks for this interesting question! I think the best way to accomplish this would be to follow the thinking at these guidelines for adding categories to redirects. Basically, we could make a redirect from the singer to the band, and add that redirect to the vocal range category. The outcome would be, people who browse the category will see the singer listed there, but when they click the singer's name it will take them to the band's article, where they can learn more. If anyone ever makes a full article about the singer, it will also naturally be categorized correctly.
You can't make the redirect yourself yet because your account is too new, but I'm happy to do it for you -- just let me know what singer and band you're talking about. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:56, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! That would be great!
The singer is Tim Foust, with the band Home Free. There are a number of celebrity blurbs which mention his 5-octave vocal range.

Hi there, I run the website and social media for a football club - Garforth Town AFC. The club logo that is shown on Wiki is slightly inncorect and I want to update it. [edit]

Hi, How can I create new articles? --Editor 5692 (talk) 21:20, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article creation wizard is here. Making an article is not usually a good way to get started on Wikipedia; I suggest reading the advice here before you start. The most important thing is to make sure you will have sources to cite that meet Wikipedia's standards; if you like, you can share links to your sources with me and I am happy to give my opinion as to whether they are likely to work. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:23, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, from that description all I can really say is “fill in the information which that field requires”. It sounds like you’re trying to use a template that can’t work unless a particular piece of information is provided. Can you get more specific about what you’re trying to do? Maybe a screenshot? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 04:38, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Editor 5692 (17:08, 20 June 2024)

Hi,

I just wrote my first article. It was rejected. Can you help me to improve it in order that it will not be read promotional --Editor 5692 (talk) 17:08, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! This sounds like a frustrating start. The best way to avoid promotional writing is usually to write just 2-3 factual sentences with the basics, with citations to 3-4 super high quality sources. Often the sources are even more important than the specific words. What is the topic you’re trying to write about? If you link me to your 3 best sources (most independent, most in depth) I can give you my personal opinion about whether they will work for an article. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 04:42, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I did my first sandbox and it was deleted under 5 minutes. Trying to find out why --Deolububble (talk) 14:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Deolububble, and welcome to Wikipedia! It looks like your draft was deleted as being unambiguous advertising. Wikipedia is a reference encyclopedia, which aims to provide basic, neutral, factual information rather than praise or recommendations. If you want to try again, I suggest reading WP:BACKWARD and WP:YFA. You should also probably read WP:SIMPLECOI. Another good approach for learning encyclopedia-style writing is to start with just a "stub" article of 2-3 very well-sourced sentences covering the bare-bones basics. Question from Farrowways (01:10, 29 July 2024)

[edit]

One of my articles automatically placed a hyperlink for a person I was writing. Instead of putting the hyperlink for "valorant' Life it put the "starcraft' Life. Do you know how I can fix this issue? --Farrowways (talk) 01:10, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
