Knuth candy bar prize television
[edit]Hello, thank you for your edit on Donald Knuth and the clear reasoning in the edit summary. I noticed this by accident and it got me to look up more details. Turns out, Knuth both appeared on television (WTMJ-TV) and his school won a television. See Selected Papers on Fun and Games Chapter 28 "Ziegler's Giant Bar" on pages 395-400, especially page 400:
The big prize, a television set with a 17-inch screen, was given to my school at a formal ceremony on 21 December. It was installed at the front of the eighth-grade classroom; my teacher used to come to school on Friday nights to watch boxing. I received a handsome red toboggan, about ten feet long, that was destined to provide much pleasure during Wisconsin winters. And plenty of candy bars were also given out to the other members of my class.
So I'm going to undo the edit (later today, have to run now) with this reference added. Cheers, Shreevatsa (talk) 15:00, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, now, that is a solid reference :-) I'll gladly let you undo the edit, since I don't have access to the book myself. Thanks for following up! OmneIgnotum (talk) 03:24, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
