Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Murray Williams, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Writing about yourself is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians.

As this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them. A page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. If you are writing about yourself, or someone you know as a friend, colleague, client, employer or relative, you have a conflict of interest, and you must disclose the nature of that COI. Helped

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your feedback. I am an independent copywriter, writing as a sub-contractor on the subject, film Director and Producer, Damien Brown. I have tried to insert that I am a paid editor, but have obviously not connected that correctly.
I will remove the IMDB links.
I have tried to change the draft article title to Damien Brown but cannot.
Please can you assist me.
Kind Regards

Hello Murray. First, since you are writing as a paid editor, you must first read and understand WP:PAID. That has instructions on what to do to make this declaration, and what your limitations are as a paid editor. Second, the manner in which you wrote the draft on Damien Brown was entirely non-encyclopedic and purely along the lines of of a CV or promotional material. Please read and understand WP:PROMO to understand how this is inappropriate. As such, the draft was deleted and will not be restored. You will need to start fresh. I highly recommend reading WP:BACKWARD as an informative essay on how to go about successfully writing an article. Finally, I see that you signed off as "Tracy Cahill". Is "Murray Williams" some for of organization? - UtherSRG (talk) 13:57, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JIm,
I have tried to access the article that I wrote so that I can make the recommended amendments, but it is not appearing on my page. Please can you assist me in accessing it. My understanding is that drafts remain on Wiki for six months.
I am a paid editor so I need to make that change, and I work for Murray Williams on behalf of his client Damien Brown.
Thank you

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

I was going to add the suggested amendments, including paid editing disclosure but you abruptly blocked my account before giving me a chance to do so. This is not at all conducive to a cordial working relationship between a writer/editor and Wiki. Murray Williams (talk) 12:34, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
