Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

I am new to editing on Wikipedia and was unaware of the paid editing disclosure requirements. Yes, I am part of the marketing team at Micron - and used a Micron email to create this account. If I do the following, will the deletion of my edits be reversed? The Wikipedia help articles are not super easy to follow - any clarification you can provide is appreciated.
Editors who are or expect to be compensated for their contributions must disclose their employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any paid contributions. They must do this on their main user page, or on the talk page accompanying any paid contributions, or in edit summaries. Disclosure on user pages may be done using the {{paid}} template as follows: {{paid|employer=name of employer|client=name of client}}. The conflict of interest guideline further advises editors to supply a clearly visible list of their paid contributions on their main user page (see the {{paid}} template documentation for instructions). Disclosures on the talk page for the page in question may be done using the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template (see its documentation for instructions). Request reason:

I am new to editing Wikipedia and did not know about the paid edit disclosure. I mistakenly assumed that the Micron email address used to create this account would tell others I work at Micron. I apologize for the inconvenience—my intent was not to promote the company but to share information about Micron on Wikipedia. I confirm that I have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements. I am employed by Micron and work in the marketing department. I intend to update the Micron Technology Wikipedia page and will disclose my paid editor status on all updates.

Decline reason:

Frankly your statement that "[your] intent was not to promote the company" makes no sense at all. What you wrote was unmistakably promotion, largely written in marketing language. JBW (talk) 23:26, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I apologize for the inconvenience—my intent was not to promote the company but to share information about Micron on Wikipedia. After rereading my additions, I see how promotional and "markety" the content was and will change the tone of my updates. Outside of Wikipedia, I've gone through and removed the promotional language from the content I would like to include and have pasted it below for your consideration. I confirm that I have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements. I am employed by Micron and work in the marketing department. I intend to update the Micron Technology Wikipedia page and will disclose my paid editor status on all updates. Micron Insight (talk) 18:32, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You may use whatever email address you wish; it is not public, though(unless you respond to email sent via Wikipedia). You will need to tell us a new username to rename this account to, one that is more individualistic(your real name is not required) per the username policy. You misunderstand what it is that we do here. Wikipedia is not a place for companies to tell about themselves and what they do. Our articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic, and summarize what independent reliable sources with signficant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the topic, showing how it is notable as Wikipedia uses the word, such as a notable company. The article about your company is not a place for it to tell about its offerings, routine business activities, financial performance, and the like. Your now-removed proposed update was not much of an improvement in terms of marketing speak. I fear that you are too much of a marketer to be able to write as Wikipedia requires. That doesn't mean you are a bad person, you just have a different skill set. You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your company; we will first want to see a history of edits in areas unrelated to your company, as a demonstration of your understanding of relevant policies(i.e. style, content, sourcing, etc.) If you're interested in being a more general contributor, please tell what topics you might edit about. Otherwise, this is likely the end of the road, though you may make a new unblock request for a different admin to review. 331dot (talk) 07:52, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed your improperly formatted unblock request. I have also removed your "proposed edits", as these will not be considered before you are unblocked.

It is unlikely that you will be allowed to retain your current username. Wikipedia accounts are for individuals, not companies, organizations or groups of people. Accounts can never be shared; only the same single person is allowed to access an account for its entire lifetime. As such, usernames must reflect individual use. Your current name is vague and appears to represent a section within the company, which implies shared use.

Wikipedia has no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself; the company has no right of ownership or control over the content of the Wikipedia article about it. We only care about what sources that are both deemed to be reliable and independent of the company have chosen on their own to publish about it. The content of Wikipedia articles are neutrally worded paraphrased summaries of what third-party sources have already published about a topic. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:30, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
