Hello & thanks

[edit]

Hi Mat (if I may be so bold). To save you wondering – simply because I imagine it must be a little strange to find yourself the subject of an article here – I'm just a book editor/frustrated songwriter-musician who spends too much time of late writing music-related articles for Wikipedia!

Your time at the helm of Mojo alone warrants an article, of course. But what really sparked my interest was the degree to which your reviews engage with the subject – it's so satisfying to find critical commentary that transcends personal opinion and actually enhances the overall discussion of a work. Back in January 2012, when I first came to Wikipedia, I decided to focus on one artist, and it happened to be George Harrison. So I'm thinking especially about your 2006 review of his Living in the Material World album, and your comments on that album in Beatles Solo. It's more with the song articles I've written here, where a comment such as your "George, an old-school pop tunesmith to his marrow" just sits perfectly with Harrison biographers' discussion of the Brill Building and Motown DNA of "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long". Okay, it's a favourable assessment in that instance; but then I find there's the same sense of completeness with, say, a famously negative critique like Bob Woffinden's NME review for the Dark Horse album.

Thanks for your offer to supply more details via email. I may well get in touch, because we should certainly mention something like Mojo winning any notable magazine-of-the-year awards during your time as editor. I read that online a few days back (maybe about FourFourTwo as well), only to then forget where – and any details need to be supported by a reliable third-party source, of course.
