Hello! And a request...

Hello! I don't believe we've ever interacted before (and if we have, my apologies). I'm Gen. Quon, and I'm a user pretty active in the X-Files, The Office, and Adventure Time fandoms. Anyway, I'm currently in grad school working on an MA thesis on Wikipedia, fandom, and canon, and I saw on the Star Wars project page that you were/are pretty active in the Star Wars fandom. (also, the username was a clue!) I was wondering if I could ask you a few (~10) questions about how fans like yourself aggregate and define "canon" on Wikipedia in regards to cultural media objects (e.g. TV shows, movies)? You're under no obligation to say yes, but I just thought I'd ask! I'm sorry that this might seem super-weird or out of the blue!--Gen. Quon (Talk) 22:12, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Frozen (2013 film) does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! —  Rebbing  talk  05:38, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Disney category mergers

Look at those

The Muppets split

Honestly, I don't think this split is a good idea at all. The characters are the feanchise and vice versa. It seems like an unnecessary split that will lead to a great deal of redundancy. I'm tempted to just reverse your moves, to be honest. oknazevad (talk) 16:37, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Really? I thought it would be good idea. Obviously, the current state of the articles is not what intend. I was planning on continuing to working on both to flesh them out and have them differentiate from one another in topic. Previously, the article depicted both the characters and the franchise in the same vein but the prose would drift between describing the franchise as whole and then the characters and their specifics. There's a fairly certain amount of information about the characters themselves that exists that has not been included, such as casting history and in-depth character development. Also, the article was very large and had a lot of content, so splitting it would help out with the overall length. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 18:00, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Isn't that why we have List of Muppets? To serve as a location for quick material about the characters and their casting? That's the appropriate place for that info. We don't need a huge, detailed write up of characterization; this isn't the Muppet Wiki. It just seems to me that the article titled The Muppets should be the article about the franchise, the one to list the tv shows and movies which make up the franchise, and such. It jet seems to me like a distinction without a difference, that major real-world info such as that should be in the main article, and that character material belongs in the character list article. oknazevad (talk) 01:02, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
What I meant was that there's a lot about the Muppets that can be discussed about in great detail (e.g. creation, history, physical design, operation, creative team, cast of performers, etc.), and not the individual characters (characterization) themselves, which is already addressed in the list article. These aforementioned topics are ones that I'm currently expanding upon, and the aim I'm intending is to have the article depict the characters in a broader sense, akin to a performing group, and have it distinguish from the media franchise itself. Do you think this idea really might be all for naught? I would really like to know, cause I'm doing this mainly to improve on the presentation of information we currently have and don't have. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 22:56, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
Sad to say, but, yes, I do think it's an unneeded bifurcation. That sort of information belongs in the franchise article, as it's real-world production information, which is important to the franchise as a whole. It's good info (really god info, actually), but I don't think readers are served by having it split over two articles instead of in the one article. Especially considering many of these aspects of development, casting, etc, are directly tied to a particular production; keeping the media productions separate doesn't make sense to me. I think it makes best sense to merge back in most of the info you moved to The Muppets (franchise) back into the main article. For the purposes of WP:SUMMARY, it might make sense to have a List of The Muppets productions for the lists of movies and TV shows, but that should be just that and a pretty barebones list. The history of he franchise belongs with the history of the performing group, as they are one and the same. oknazevad (talk) 00:23, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Alright, I can concede to that reasoning. I'm going to continue modifying the content I'm working on and then I/we can merge everything back into place. I'm also very partial to your suggestion of creating a "List of The Muppets productions" considering that the majority of what I moved to the new franchise article were lots of tables and lists, which would make the reunified article lengthy and cluttered again (that's something I'd like to avoid). Perhaps we should enact that—maybe that would be a more wiser move than what I did. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 00:42, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that's just a better way to spin off a daughter article per WP:SUMMARY while still providing the best scope for the main article. oknazevad (talk) 00:53, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Okay. I'm going to merge most of the content back to original article now, and create the new article for the list of media productions. ~ Jedi94 (Want to tell me something?) 00:56, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. I've already take care of most of the links. oknazevad (talk) 01:22, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Just dropping by to say that your user page makes me nostalgic about how mine used to look. So very similar only with some spam images of me. Also thanks for being one of the valuable contributors to Miami articles, as there has long been a near-dearth of "normal" and reasonable attention to them. B137 (talk) 02:21, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jedi94! I've been admiring your work on the Disney franchise articles I created. Those logos add so much to the articles! I was wondering if you could have a look at doing the same thing for a widely popular video game series called Disney's Animated Storybook? Thanks in advance.--Coin945 (talk) 05:59, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi. There was a lot of edit warring over the production companies at Ready Player One (film). That's why I cited a source for the production companies and copied verbatim what it said. Everyone seems to have their own interpretation of who the production companies should be; what I added is what a reliable source explicitly says. Let's just stick to that instead of original research. If you think that Variety is wrong, you could always raise the issue at the talk page, but Variety is pretty much the golden standard for sourcing on film articles.
