Non-disruptive editing

After you accused another editor (unjustly, in my view) of disruptive editing, reverting his work as recorded at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_December_4#Category:1250_in_Egypt, please would you reinstate the categorisations of biographies where these are warranted, as requested at WP:CFDWM#Other? – Fayenatic London 20:10, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Syrian opposition

The Syrian opposition isn't a unified group. There is the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, the Syrian National Council, and the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change, all 3 of them are rivals to each other. The Syrian Democratic Council identifies itself as Syrian and opposes the current government in Damascus, so based on this it would be considered a Syrian opposition council, just like the other 3. Editor abcdef (talk) 09:33, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Indeed Syrian opposition is not unified, but encompasses the three main groups National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, the Syrian National Council, and the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change and associated rebel factions. The Syrian Democratic Council identifies itself as Syrian, but doesn't openly call for deposition of Asad Ba'athist regime in Syria, but rather for the establishment of Federation, which may or may not include Asad. This is very different from Syrian opposition, and Syrian Democratic Council is not being identified as "opposition" in any source.GreyShark (dibra) 12:33, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Could you step in as a third-party?

A new user is making some rather extraordinary claims here. Since you were previously involved in that discussion (for the record, we disagreed), and since you are quite knowledgeable on the subject, I was wondering if you could step in and help find a solution? --Mikrobølgeovn (talk) 06:17, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

@Mikrobølgeovn: OK, so i understand you would like me to moderate or to join discussion?GreyShark (dibra) 06:31, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
In this case, it seems like it will take more than two users to reach a consensus. You don't have to do anything. I was just thinking in case the discussion happened to interest you. Don't bother getting involved unless you want to. --Mikrobølgeovn (talk) 07:08, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
Let me re-join indeed.GreyShark (dibra) 07:09, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

After your re-redirecting of Government of Syria to Syrian government (disambiguation), there is an unsolvable link to a redirect page in the template Template:Syria topics. In my opinion the only realistic solution is to revert your action.

Could you please look if there is any other solution possible to solve the link? The Banner talk 21:26, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

IMHO, that redirect was unjustified, regardless of whether it created an unsolvable link. The Kurdish regional government does not claim to be a "government of Syria," and no one looking for information about that region would search for it using this term. And the primary meaning of the term clearly is the Assad regime. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:22, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

MfD nomination of Portal:Mandatory Palestine

Portal:Mandatory Palestine, a page which you created or substantially contributed to (or which is in your userspace), has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Mandatory Palestine and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Mandatory Palestine during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. — Train2104 (talk • contribs) 01:54, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

West Bank

Hi. What's the need to have the term "rabbinic Judaism" in the infobox of West Bank? Is there any other type of Judaism today? Could you please change it to simply 'Judaism'? Thanks--Yschilov (talk) 10:05, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

@Yschilov: First of all, there are other forms of Judaism - Karaite Judaism, Haymanot, Conservative Judaism and Reform Judaism, as well as some novel minor sects. Second, you can fix yourself - not a big issue.GreyShark (dibra) 10:37, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello: request for feedback on proposal for "Palestine-Israel conflict" article

I noticed you are a relatively frequent editor of that article and so..... since I am very new here to "serious" contributing on WP and so rather than just try to go and create what I propose and then submit it; I instead wish for feedback on how substantive and possibly useful what I suggest might be, here is what I am thinking: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Talk:Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_conflict#Hello.2C_new_here.2C_and_I_perceive_a_GRAVE_.28.26_not_even_mentioned_offhand.29_total-omission_of_the_possible_actual_ancient_root_of_this_conflict

Yes I now realize the word "grave" is too much. Tell me what you think. Thank you for time and attention. Sinsearach (talk) 15:36, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Zealots (Judea) into Jacob and Simon uprising. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:40, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the point - will take a note. Anyways, the background section is already directing to main Zealots (Judea) page, where the paragraph was taken from, so taking some material from there is wikilinked.GreyShark (dibra) 16:42, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

I see by your edits to 2012–13 escalation of the Syrian Civil War that you are still not adding the required attribution, as required under the terms of the CC-by-SA license. Please have a look at this edit summary as an example of how it is done. I also added attribution templates to the talk pages of each article. Please have a look at them so you know how to do it in the future. Please leave a message on my talk page if you still don't understand what to do or why we have to do it. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:12, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

I see by your edit to Berber separatism in North Africa you are still not adding the required attribution, as required under the terms of the CC-by-SA license. Copying from one article another without providing the required attribution is a copyright violation. Please begin fulfilling this mandatory legal requirement, or you risk being blocked from editing. The article Syrian territories has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minimal to no evidence of the use of this term in line with the definition provided in the article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2017 Qatif unrest, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eastern Province (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Syrian Arab Republic (1961-70)

Hi We have Iraqi Republic (1958–68), so I think we should create that article. What is your opinion ? --Panam2014 (talk) 14:10, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Panam2014 Iraqi Republic existed in between the abolishment of the Hashemite dynasty in 1958 and the rise of the Iraqi Ba'athist authoritarian rule in 1968. In the Syrian Republic case there was no abolishment of the monarchy, but rather transform from Mandatory rule to independence in 1945/6 and it existed until the takeover of the Ba'ath in 1963 (with brief period of United Arab Republic union with Egypt between 1958-61). Hence the Syrian Republic (1945–63) should be the case. See the split proposal for Syrian Republic (1930–58) in this regard. GreyShark (dibra) 05:10, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi, good idea for the pre Ba'athist republic. But like to Romanian People's Republic/Socialist Republic of Romania, who changed it name, we should write that Syrian Republic have been renamed Syrian Arab Republic in 1961. --Panam2014 (talk) 11:30, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Good point, it hence makes us to distinct five periods in Syrian Republic history: Mandatory Syrian Republic (1930-45), Syrian Republic (1945-58), United Arab Republic (1958-61), Syrian Arab Republic (1961-63) and finally Ba'athist Syria (1963-present). It doesn't make much sense to create an entre article on 61-63 period, since except official name change it was not much different in terms of governance and territory from the Syrian Republic (1945-58) and actually Syria and Egypt were pretty much distinct republics during their 1958-61 nominal union as UAR, so it is most suitable to consider 1945-63 period as continuous, changed only with the rise of Ba'athists in 1963.GreyShark (dibra) 05:36, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Possible Autopatrolled / Referencing

Hi Greyshark09. With the number of articles (plus cats and redirects) you create, you'd be a candidate for WP:AUTOPATROLLED, which would help with the reduction of the backlog at new page patrol. However, a few recent article creations have left bare URLs (eg, at Two-state solution (Cyprus), South Lebanon security belt administration, or Capital punishment in the Gaza Strip). Would you please consider committing to consistently using a fuller citation style (whether via Template:cite or manually, ref WP:CITE), and if so then applying at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled for the bit. Would you please also consider turning on "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing.
