Galland[edit]

Can you please not change information arbitrarily particularly when your edit summary suggests a guess and a question? Galland was employed by the Argentine Government as a civilian. He was never a member of the Argentine Air Force. His and title award was honorary. Dapi89 (talk) 13:10, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Andre Beaufre.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Andre Beaufre.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. I really liked it and would love to see it back. However, I don't want to rewrite it from scratch, and I don't want to work on it just to have it deleted again. What's your plan? Czolgolz (talk) 23:44, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Siegfried Marseille requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Inks.LWC (talk) 21:48, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page deletion - response[edit]

Please don't be offended by the tagging - I left it half an hour to establish notability but the page only says 'Gordon Waterfield is a notable British Journalist and broadcaster, He was interviewed in the World at War in the episode France Falls When he was a War corespondent on the Rhine during the Phoney war. He also written a great deal of books,' - which neither establishes notabiltiy nor is indicative of the fact that any could be found. The phrase 'is notable because' highlights this. Please see wp:notability. (talk) 23:08, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well what do you want me to do to improve it? Goldblooded (talk) 23:25, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have asked me on my talk page why I have deleted this article. I have little to add beyond the comments made by Reichsfürst. An interview in a TV series does not confer notability, and stating that he has written a number of books, unspecified, similarly fails to do so. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:32, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Being an author does not automatically confer notability; nor does being a war correspondent. But if you really feel that this gentleman should have an article, and if you feel that it can be expanded to indicate wikipedic notability let me know and I will restore it. Or, alternatively, you can go to WP:DRV and ask the view of the community. In my opinion the article, as it stood, failed WP:NN. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 10:41, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite; what I am saying is give us something that differentiates him fom all the other correspondents and authors. More refs would be good. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 17:23, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Christabel Bielenberg, the article with which you ask me to compare your article, contains a great deal of relevant detail. Your article is 43 words long, without any detail at all. There is a difference; I have already alluded to your two valid options; arguing about the situation as it stands will not help you. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 15:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Siegfried Marseille for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Siegfried Marseille is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Siegfried Marseille until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Inks.LWC (talk) 00:52, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Barbarossa (Episode)[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Barbarossa (Episode). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - The World at War. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at The World at War - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Skamecrazy123 (talk) 13:26, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

World at War[edit]

I nominated the page because it does nothing to expand upon the information that was already present at The World at War and, as such, is nothing more than a repetition of information that has already been included. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 13:33, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:07, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Listen please...[edit]

I'm again reminding you to assume good faith with other editors. While we have no rule against it, please don't remove other peoples' comments on your talk page if they're trying to help you. Also, vandalism has a specific definition, that does not include the comments of others. Dr. K removed your comments as "vandalism" not because it was vandalism, but because your comment was a blatant violation of no personal attacks. Comments like this will get you blocked from editing. Consider this a final warning. Please stop.Jasper Deng (talk) 22:17, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:14, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Marseille Siegfried1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Siegfried Marseille[edit]

  1. Because whether or not the article gets deleted the facts must be correct.
  2. I am curious if you manage to find information that I couldn't. I researched Hans-Joachim Marseille's life for 15 years now, travelling to Africa and Berlin, visiting the German achives in Kornelimünster and Freiburg, I even once spoke to Eduard Neumann before he died.

I truly wish you good luck with the article but I stick with my opinion that he is borderline with respect to the WP:SOLDIER criteria. MisterBee1966 (talk) 04:10, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some general advice[edit]

Hello, Goldblooded. I thought I should come by and share some thoughts with you. I know you're upset with the AfD for Siegfried Marseille, but please understand that this is not personal. At this point, I think it would be wise to take a step back from the discussion there and let it run its course. You've made your argument, and you're only going to antagonize editors who would otherwise have no problem with you. You might consider taking a break from Wikipedia altogether for a few days. Let things cool off a bit and think about what has happened.

Perhaps the best option at this point is to userfy the article so you can continue working on it without it being under threat of deletion. Once you get the article to a point where you think it satisfies the objections of those who have advocated its deletion, you can request that it be moved back into the article space. Another option is the article incubator, where you can find help from other editors who work there.

I've been on Wikipedia for a long time now—just about five years—and I've seen a lot of editors come and go. Quite a few have left involuntarily, and I would be disappointed if you followed in their footsteps. Trust me, I know how frustrating it can be for someone to revert your edits to an article, attempt to have something you wrote deleted, or insult you, but you can't retaliate in kind. I know from experience that participating in these kinds of disagreements will only drag you down. You have to be the bigger person, shrug off any negative comments, and if need be, disengage from the situation completely. I know it's difficult to stop yourself from needing the last word, but you'll feel better about a disagreement if you just walk away from it.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you work through this. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 02:21, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message[edit]

I thought I'd reply here to be sure you see it (not sure if you're watching my talk page). I did get your email though only this morning (I probably don't check my mail as often as I should). It's disappointing that you feel the way you do, but as I said in an earlier post your sanctions were self inflicted. You shouldn't have been insulted by another editor - that was wrong - but you reacted badly and went on to cross a number of lines. The most serious of these was edit-warring (repeatedly removing/restoring edits). This almost always results in a block, and always if the three revert rule is broken. Another was messing with other editors' posts (especially after being warned not to), and a third was maintaining a confrontational and overly protective attitude to your article after others had pointed out some issues with it (see WP:OWN). Taken together these are what got you blocked. The reason I protected your talk page for the duration of the block was that you removed the block message and started posting further inflammatory messages; this was in essence what you'd been blocked for and I didn't want you to dig yourself deeper and get your block extended. The only reason talk pages normally remain editable while blocked is so that blocked editors can post unblock requests. However I should probably have informed you at the time that's why I locked the page - I apologise for not doing so and any upset this may have caused you.

You don't have to take any further advice from me, but you do have to edit by Wikipedia's rules if you want to stay here. Like Parsecboy above there are many other editors that would be happy to help you out - maybe you might even consider adoption by a more experienced editor until you learn the ropes? General Article Creating Advice[edit]

I never thought I could create content until User:SuggestBot inspired me with a 1-sentence stub article. That article was about a former country, so it could not be deleted for being non-notable. 30 edits and a history merge later, I turned this into this. I duplicated the feat with this, and even got a shiny award when the article was featured on the main page. Unfortunately, my attempt to write an article about a video game, Backyard Monsters, was smashed to pieces by the 302-centimeter-thick Novel of Deletionism, First Edition.

Short version: Write an article about something inherently notable, like a former country. If you want, you can find references with Google and expand this 2-sentence stub. Alternatively, you can help fight vandalism.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of last occurrences, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Articles and expanding them[edit]

In my opinion, it's easier to expand a 1-sentence stub such as this one, because when you create a new page it appears in Special:Newpages, where an army of new page watchers search for pages that do not meet Wikipedia's standards. Expanding an existing article, however, will not place the page under the eyes of the new page watchers, which is why I prefer expanding 1-sentence stubs (like the aforementioned) instead of trying to create a new article. --Σ talkcontribs 00:35, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

British airman[edit]

Your personal oppinion on the issue (which you yourself said it is) doesn't count. The official line of the British government is that he died as part of and in support of operation Ellamy. This source has been provided. Like I already said to another editor, there have been around a hundred non-combat US military deaths in Kuwait in support of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq (and they didn't even step foot in those countries) and they have all been declared to be casualties of war by both the media and the US government. This is the same thing here. Removal of sourced information to push a personal point of view is not good faith on your part. So please refrain. EkoGraf (talk) 03:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, you've got the same claim here? Lol, EkoGraf should cool down a bit! That's not a way to win an argument... ~ AdvertAdam talk 07:57, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Response

I agree adam, Ekograf you could of at least WP:assume good faith and worded your arguement a bit better and some of the stuff you said to me on the talk page saying my views arent valid, saying i need to refrain myself AND then saying IM in bad faith are all deogratory comments.

Above all that; He still didnt die of enemy action and he wasnt wounded like the briton who was airlifted to cyprus from afghan either. It wasnt in southern italy it was actually near Abruzzo region he was travelling to Gioia Del Colle with the logistics corps to refill NATO jets there and he crashed on the way , Just like any other simple road accident, theres nothing major about it and it shouldnt be on that page but you could put it somewhere else in the article. Goldblooded (talk) 09:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please don't make up things as you see fit. First of the Briton didn't die from wounds sustained in Afghanistan after being airlifted from there. He died from a boating accident while in Cyprus after he had already left the war zone uninjured, and still he was declared a casualty of war. Read the source more carefully. My comments on your behavior were strictly keeping in line with Wikipedia policie and were never at one moment threats, if I wanted to make deogratory comments there is a whole host of bad faith words that I could have used but I didn't because there was no need to. If anything you two feel more strongly than I do on this subject. And your claim that I am not much liked are totaly unsubstantiated since I have a good working relationship with a number of editors, and all of my discussions ended peacfully with all editors. And besides that is not the point of this discussion. I never, ever, said your views are not valid, I said your personal oppinions don't count, the official sources count. And when I said you should refrain I ment you should refrain from trying to make your edits based on your personal feelings for future potentional conflicts with other editors who follow Wikipedia policie. And your comment that you are assuming the result of the discussion is going to be to remove the airman is simply not fact since Vojvodae and EllsworthSK, who also had concerns like you two that the airman should be removed and were included in the discussion, have changed their minds after I had a talk with them and explained them the same things I did to you, and neather of them accused me of deogratory comments. According to them at least I wasn't wrong since you said I have been proven wrong on multiple occasion. :) Also, if anything, your accusations that I have been threatening you and accusing me of a bad working relationship with other editors, which is not true, is realy deogratory and should warn you its in violation of Wikipedia rule on civility. So I would politely ask you to cool off for a bit before making such heated arguments and try discussing this in a manner we can reach a concencuss, I have at every turn assumed good faith from you but pointed out that you didn't assume good faith toward me and pointed out to you the mistakes you were making with Wikipedia rules, that was one of my false claims as you put it. So if you have sources that counter the official line of the British government that he didn't die as part of the campaign against Libya please provide them, if not again please refrain, simple as that.

What? Goldblooded (talk) 19:25, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What he means is probably (I may be wrong, as this is a guess) "don't call random people you don't know 'supporters of the IRA'". As I don't know what that even means, I wouldn't be offended, but remember that talk pages are not a social network, and such comments have the possibility of being identified as vandalism. You're already under a lot of radar after being unblocked purely from the goodness of User:Zscout370's heart, and you shouldn't resume activity that caused you to be blocked in the first place. Remember to be civil and no personal attacks. Comment on content, not contributor. --Σ talkcontribs 20:07, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right. Nah it wasnt really offensive it basicially means he has an extreme view on irish republicanism and judging by his templates , pages and unconstructive edits he evidently does. But anyway Sorry about that. And im really not. Ive actually been creating new articles and on microsoft word im drawning up ideas for new articles. thanks for the comment Goldblooded (talk) 21:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would advise you against using "Click here to return fire" when you notify other users of replies on your own talk page. Don't encourage WP:BATTLEGROUND behavior.Jasper Deng (talk) 18:49, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

I know we had our dispute on my talkpage, but I want you to know that I don't hold it against you, and I really want to see you succeed here. We need more history-oriented people (I actually just graduated with my BA in History, and I've been trying to put it to good use here), and we need more younger people; you're both. I see you're working with a mentor now, and I hope that all works out for you. Ping me if you ever have any questions or if you want to work on history-related articles outside your typical areas (I specialize in Ainu history myself, and I've worked on some Burmese history as well).
