Geraldine Aron

[edit]

Hallo, Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your work on Geraldine Aron. Unfortunately you introduced several problems to the article - breaking a reference, removing the one named copy of a reference which was re-used later, etc - that I've reverted your edits rather than unpicking each individual muddle. Please reintroduce your change, but more carefully so that the encyclopedia isn't damaged. Thanks. PamD 20:41, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself, at Geraldine Aron. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Hallo Geraldine

I see that I created the article about you, on 15 Apr 2012, having seen My Brilliant Divorce the previous evening. Where? Can't remember: possibly an amateur production by our Village Players in Silverdale. (I'm so glad that I keep a note, on my user page, of what inspires me to create each article I create, as I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise!)

Wikipedia's rules are confusing, but one very clear rule is that people should not create, or edit, articles about themselves - or their companies, works they have written, members of their family, and so on. It's called WP:COI or "Conflict of interest".

The various changes you'd made to the article when I first tidied it up recently had managed to mangle the article somewhat. You then made more changes, and I've tidied it up quite a bit since then. If there are other changes you think should be made, then please say so on the article's talk page Talk:Geraldine Aron; I or some other editor will then probably make those changes, especially if you can provide references to independent publishes sources to support them. Could you please provide sources for the various things I've tagged with "Citation needed": that 14-year Prague run, the feature film, the anthologies (ISBNs for the books would be more or less enough).

I'm sure you can see that an encyclopedia has to protect itself very carefully from being used for self-promotion by companies, organisations, or individuals. There are also strong rules that everything said about a living person must be particularly well sourced - we don't know who any editor is, and "reliable independent publishes sources" are needed. Most of the initial article came from the biographical note on Doollee.

As for photos: Wikipedia is very firm about copyright. We cannot add a photograph of you to your article unless there is one which is freely available for use and re-use. I've seen a nice one at http://chicagoontheaisle.com/2015/10/12/preview-of-irish-theatre-of-chicago-2015-16-season/ (very glamorous, far from "elderly"!), but we can't use it. If you or someone you know has a good photo of you of which you or they own the copyright and which you or they are prepared to make freely available permanently for unrestricted use and re-use, then the way to upload it is at Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard. There's more information about images at Wikipedia:Uploading images.

When it comes to signing your name, a "tilde" is the "squiggle" character ~, so typing four of those adds your name, date and time to a post on a talk page. Another way is that if you look above the box in which you're typing you will probably see a little picture of a pencil and some writing, just to the right of "B" and "I" - clicking that has the same effect.

Editing Wikipedia is great fun and can be an immense time sink! (Look how long I seem to be spending here now when I ought to empty the washing machine and get ready for a committee meeting). It's immensely satisfying, and the encyclopedia needs people who can spell, punctuate, and put a sentence together. I'm one of several retired librarians around - sharing and organising information goes with the territory. I hope you can find an interest in editing other articles - perhaps about other aspects of Irish theatre, other playwrights, or whatever (see my user page for my own random selection of article creations, and I've edited probably thousands of others over the years). Good luck. PamD 14:28, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who use multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. That's a standard templated message, except for the italicised bit, but it really is serious. Please stick to just one name or folk will object. PamD 17:04, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re the photo: what Google shows up is nothing to do with Wikipedia, except that if you had a photo in the Wikipedia article it might get picked up by Google. I can't do anything to help - I've explained how to upload a photo which could then be added to your article. PamD 17:06, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
