[edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 19:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]- When writing on a talk page or pretty much anywhere else other than in an article you should always sign your post with four ~. You seem to be adding budapest1379budapest1379 at the end of your posts rather than User:Georgie sydney? I'll happily adopt you if you wish.Paste Let’s have a chat. 19:39, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've created the following page for you - User:Paste/adoption/Georgie sydney go there and let's see how we get on. All the best.Paste Let’s have a chat. 20:02, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Sandbox
[edit]- I've had a look at your sandbox article and tidied it up for you. It could do with a good bit more detail, try having a look at The 2i's Coffee Bar for some ideas on how the final article could turn out. Paste Let’s have a chat. 20:26, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've amended the article, there were some spelling and formatting errors. You are still not signing your posts on talk pages with four ~. Try and complete the adoption page and then we can move on. Regards Paste Let’s have a chat. 21:17, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes you can create in another programme and then C&P to the Wiki. But I'd suggest making a page of your own such as User:Georgie sydney:pagetitle in which you can create to your hearts content, much as in our adoption page and then when you are happy with it you can transfer it to the mainspace. Paste Let’s have a chat. 09:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've had a look at The 2i's Coffee Bar and can I suggest that you use the 'Show preview' button at the base of every article edit window as you had placed some info on budapest there that was certainly not required. The preview will show you what your edits look like before you save them. This budapest info appears to be typed by yourself on a lot of your entries. I have asked you before why you type it when 4 x ~ should be placed at the end of your edits but you haven't replied. All the best. Paste Let’s have a chat. 17:02, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I have edited the 2i's, and Hand-jiving stubs if you could look at them, please. Not sure about how to write the references styles; I guessed I was saving each section after previewing them and then later realised I should not be signing the four ~. But when I do sign four tilde "the budapest 1379" comes out - because that is what I put in earlier on as my signature. It looks like I've misunderstood. so how do I change that signature from budapest-bla-bla to Georgie sydney?
also have complete 'about me' on adoption page, now i know where to find it! budapest1379 17:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- At the top of the page you will see 'My preferences' click on this and look out for signature. You can change that as you wish.Paste Let’s have a chat. 18:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Paste, can you check out the cat's whisker on my stub and see if it is okay to move to mainspace? thanks, Georgie sydney 10:16, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Help
[edit]- Hi, firstly the 'helpme' tag is not required, just write whatever your question is and I'll get back to you. On the e mail question go to Help:Email_confirmation and there you will find what you require. I'll look your sandbox and move it to the mainspace for you if its OK. RegardsPaste Let’s have a chat. 11:12, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- The Cat's Whisker is up and running. Paste Let’s have a chat. 11:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Paste. Is it now okay to remove the cat's whisker from the sandbox so I can start on something else in the sandbox? thanks for all your help so far.
Georgie sydney 08:38, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- I just moved the sandbox article into the mainspace, so it no longer exists. If you want to create another article (and lets face it thats one of the main reasons for being here!) then type the name of the article into the search box on the left just to check it doesn't exist yet and if it doesn't you can just start the article in the mainspace, preview as you go and save when you are ready. Alternatively create another sandbox article under user:Georgie sydney. Paste Let’s have a chat. 09:42, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- FAO Paste: I have two cites to the cat's whisker but am not sure how to put them in: when I go the article and edit it doesn't want to take. Raffles cite is http://www.thehandbook.co.uk/raffles-chelsea-london-venue.asp and further up for ChasMcDevitt Skiffle Group is http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,862551,00.html -- can you add please and then tell me how you accessed and added.. cheers Georgie sydney 16:58, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, go to the article and click on 'history'. There you will be able to see what I have added. I've done the Raffles ref, you now try and do the other one.Paste Let’s have a chat. 17:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- thanks re raffles; the chas mcdevitt name is showing up as red with blue cite [1] - not sure how to set the ^1a b c etc when they are same refs Georgie sydney 17:38, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- expanded david nightingale hicks page - can/will add photo - is this okay, Paste?
- extra cites for hand-jiving stub —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.137.53.74 (talk) 14:13, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- It looks fine what you have done except that your signature appears at the bottom of each article. I have removed them as you don't sign with the 4 x ~ on article edits otherwise if you think about it all articles would be inundated with sig's? Put any other questions that you may have on your adoption page and any particular areas of interest in Wikipedia that you'd like to get involved with.Paste Let’s have a chat. 15:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Georgie's images- help needed
[edit]PASTE 1. DO I NEED TO BE SIGNED INTO WIKI COMMONS AS SEPARATELY FROM ALREADY BEING A SIGNED-UP CONTRIBUTOR IN ORDER TO PUT IMAGES ON MY CONTRIBUTIONS? 2. DO, CAN, I PUT ALL MY I MAGES TO BE USED ON VARIOUS ARTICLES IN WIKI COMMONS? 3. OR DO IMAGES GET UPLOADED DIRECTLY TO THE ARTICLE THEY GO WITH? SORRY, BUT THIS IS NOT ENTIRELY CLEAR.
- You should always upload images to Commons rather than Wikipedia as that is the purpose of Commons, you can upload images to Wikipedia but it is better to put them straight onto Commons. You can add whatever images you wish to Commons as long as you know their copyright status etc. Once you have uploaded images to Commons then of course you can use them in whatever articles in Wikipedia are appropriate for them. Hope this helps, come back to me if more info needed. PS - writing in caps is considered shouting! Paste Let’s have a chat. 11:22, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Georgie sydney 10:47, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
sorry about the caps; it's my Mac - I often don't realise it cap lock is on - I should have checked.... I'm just finishing my sandbox and then I'll try doing Wiki images... do I have register separately for Commons?
- I've had a look at Peter Evans, I've made a few minor changes, there seems to be quite a lot of info that is not referenced and there is no DOB. Is he still alive, if so then you have to be particularly careful, see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons.Paste Let’s have a chat. 11:37, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes, he is still alive; and I am still putting in the references/citations.. had forgotten how to do them so am re-checking them all...thanksGeorgie sydney 11:40, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
- You've got the references repeated in the bibliography. Paste Let’s have a chat. 12:25, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I've deleted repeated refs; learning how to do images nowGeorgie sydney
- Have a look at the edit I have done for the picture of Evans and you will see how images can be correctly displayed. Paste Let’s have a chat. 16:18, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Signatures
[edit]- I have mentioned before about signatures. These should only be used (4 x ~) when talking to others/leaving comments etc on talk pages or project pages. It should not be used in articles otherwise all articles would be riddled with such signatures. However you seem to be still leaving sigs such as here. Regards Paste Let’s have a chat. 07:41, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I am the middle of edits and thought all sigs disappeared when article was"saved"!?! And it's hard to get out of the habit of saving, saving.... when using computers. so to clarify, when I am in edit of my own articles I do not use 4~? Only use 4~ when editing others' articles?!?
I notice that the top of this page reminds me to sign! 4~
The welcome notice states:- 'Please remember to sign your name on talk pages by clicking Signature icon.png or by typing four tildes; this will automatically produce your name and the date.' Note 'talk pages' we don't want signatures on your or anyone elses articles. Paste Let’s have a chat. 16:41, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- You are still adding your signature to edits that you are making, please stop. Paste Let’s have a chat. 16:34, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
printing article in sandbox...
[edit]- Another point, how can I print out a copy of my article without getting all the cites coding appearing? Makes it very difficult to read! ThanksGeorgie sydney 17:11, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well I've never printed an article but I guess if you are looking at the article (not the edit) and if you hit 'control P' you will be able to print. If not how about highlight the whole article, and then copy and paste into word and print from there? Regards Paste Let’s have a chat. 16:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
printing
[edit]- you do surprise me, but you probably have a large monitor and having done so many stubs and articles I guess you can easily read what you're writing and referencing... I have managed to cut and paste para by para into Pages and then print out; otherwise if you print when in WIki Edit you get some of the link coding and this make it impossible to read. thansk, but I have tried control+P for printing and pdf printing... think itwill work when I get to mainspace wiki. Sandbox is virtually ready now, one more read through and I want to change the image as I've tidied it up a bit...
image folder
[edit]how do i start an image folder for all the pix I want to use - a holding folder? can you help please? possibly set one up for me and call it "georgie sydney images"/ thanks I know it will go in wikimedia commons, where my name is 'gilberta". Georgie sydney 15:20, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- thanks, but I see one has also been created at Commons with 'all' my pix I'm using.
The story so far!
[edit]- You've made a great start to editing Wikipedia with some very solid contributions. As your adopter do you require any further help and assistance from me? I look forward to seeing your contributions to the wider project in the future. Kind regards Paste Let’s have a chat. 15:04, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Paste; it was a lot harder than I thought it would be so do appreciate your help and hope I don't forget all I have learned. Am working on a few more.. collecting references Georgie sydney 11:51, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
- Wrong image showing up
I have been trying to upload and insert an image of Robin Eldridge; the picture that appears is the wrong one and I have never seen that man! What's going on? I the file I want to add to Peter Evans restaurateur is called File:peter3.jpg|right|thumb|robin_eldridge - I will check that and come back if necessary. the problem may be that the image on my computer is caled peter3 but on COmmons I called i Robin Eldridge... but still the image that appears is the wrong oneGeorgie sydney 14:02, 17 November 2009 (UTC) asd at 6.50pm tuesday 17 nov correct picture of robin eldridge appears.
