Amphibians of Australia

[edit]

Thanks, it took a long time! There is still some work needed for it (especially to include the Hylids), but I am pretty happy with how far along it is. This article has great potential, I hope we can get it to FA and FL (I think we will need to split it). Good work with it so far. --liquidGhoul 10:20, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice talk page by the way. --liquidGhoul 10:20, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How are the images now? --liquidGhoul 12:42, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you removing the italics from all the genera names, they are supposed to have them (see WP:TOL). --liquidGhoul 06:55, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review

[edit]

The article is coming along nicely. I'd be good if some of the inline cites were to original paper sources - since the information provided by the IUCN etc. is usually just a summary of someone elses research. I can get pdfs of most recently published journal articles, so take a look at this list and let me know if there are any articles you'd like to have the full text for.--Peta 07:19, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Crocodylus johnstoni range.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Crocodylus johnstoni range.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:04, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you attempted to add your name to the VandalProof request page, however you added your name in the Approved section and not the Awaiting_Approval section as required. If you would like to be considered please add your name there, as the Moderator software would have deleted your name without us noticing (if I hadn't caught it beforehand). Thanks in advance - Glen 09:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maps and frogs

[edit]

Hi, the maps look great, thanks. About sources for the frog article - I think that is important where possible to cite original research - not an organisations interpretation of that research, it realtes to the idea of a reliable sources and I think it is important to give some acknowlegdement to the people who actaully did all the hard work, so if you change your mind about wanting to look at the original papers just leave me a message.--Peta 00:49, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:GGBF

[edit]

Not their winter breeding habitat, just their winter retreat habitat. The paper is at the top of this list, but I can only get it by hard copy, so I can't send it to you. --liquidGhoul 03:20, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Use the abstract of that paper if you have to, it contains enough results for an encyclopaedia. I can't think of anything that is missing. It still needs a copyedit by someone better than me. Also, I think you should address Tnarg's concerns on the talk page. Thanks --liquidGhoul 04:20, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit

[edit]

I did as requested; reordered sentences to improve flow in one section and left several inline comments on fragments where there were questions about word choice or, in one instance, a convoluted sentence whose meaning was not unambiguous. I'd rather you improved it than me guessing it wrong. - Samsara (talkcontribs) 21:28, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Froggy, (not sure if I'm doing this correctly, apologies if I am) but the changes I made to Roy and HG's origin commentary page were NOT nonsense-I've listened to every one for the last 5 years, I can assure you of that. The previous unsigned comment was written by 211.31.57.32

Pelodrydinae

[edit]

Don't fret. We won't take action on this part of the paper, it says itself that they weren't thorough enough on these frogs (only a few species were tested). Another paper is coming out soon, and it will deal with the Pelodryines. Always remember to sign your comments :) Thanks --liquidGhoul 11:11, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aus frog list

[edit]

It seems that most of that info should be in the genera articles. I had assumed that was what was happening when I came across it a while ago. You should try and merge as much info from it as possible into the repective genus articles. --liquidGhoul 06:23, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol, rightio. I don't think it is a necessary article then. You can get all the links to Australian genera through Amphibians of Australia, and can see the info in those articles. --liquidGhoul 06:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage maps

[edit]

Hi Froggydarb. I've noticed your excellent work on coverage maps, such as this example. At the Australian wine article, we're in need of something similar, though I'm not graphically minded in any way as much as I'd love to be. Are you able to help out when you've got some time? -- Longhair 02:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent. There's coverage maps available here, under the Map of Australian Wine Zones link, which detail the wine regions of Australia. What we're aiming for I guess is a freely licenced coverage map of Australian wine regions usable for Wikipedia. I hope that explains our needs. If not, feel free to ask me to clear anything up you're unsure about. Thanks again. -- Longhair 03:12, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Regions aren't really necessary for now I think. Just a basic map detailing wine production coverage should be fine. -- Longhair 10:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That looks fantastic and close to what we need. Are you able to add a simple legend off to one side to show why regions are marked as different colours and their respective names? -- Longhair 01:06, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking good. I'll let the others know at Talk:Australian wine to see what they think. Thanks for the speed in getting this done and your great efforts to date. -- Longhair 04:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Frog life cylce

[edit]

I was wondering whether you had a better version of the life-cycle than is currently on the frog article. I would like one which has a really good tadpole photo, and every stage the same species (maybe Limnodynastes peronii would be easiest?). I really don't like the current one. The photos look depressing, and I doubt they are all the same species. Thanks. --liquidGhoul 02:01, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Finding the morph will prove to be the limiting factor. I am going swabbing tomorrow (L. aurea, but also any species possible), so will keep an eye out. However, it will be very hard to find metamorphs, I don't think I've ever seen one with a tail. The Mixophyes in Tyler's Natural History book is beautiful, and large, but most species are absolutely tiny. Might be an idea to go frogging when Mixophyes fasciolatus tadpoles are about to morph. --liquidGhoul 09:51, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. I saw some very early stage tadpoles, but that was it. The GGBFs weren't out (little cold). A whole section was completely flooded from the recent rain though, so there was a huge floodplain, and the frogs were loving it. We went swabbing there. Also saw two rats. --liquidGhoul 22:15, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We caught L. fallax, Lit. peronii, Lim peronii, Lit. tyleri and C. signifera. We also heard Lim. tasmaniensis and L' dentata. Nothing really special, but it is/was a highly disturbed site. --liquidGhoul 02:27, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Extinct frogs

[edit]

What's your source for the T. acutirostris specimen in 1996? --liquidGhoul 12:31, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rightio, that's fine. My reference was also from JCU, so it's all good. --liquidGhoul 13:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crinia parinsignifera

[edit]

With that recent edit to Crinia parinsignifera, are you just talking about with Crinia sloanei, or both species? --liquidGhoul 13:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like both are distinguished by call alone. I am certain that it is only call for signifera but was unsure for sloanei. Also, I was only talking not distinguishing them based on physical appearance, but I can see how my wording was ambiguous. I was planning on mentioning the call in the ecology and behaviour section, but must have forgotten. Thanks. --liquidGhoul 00:29, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

Hi, if you have time could you please make a numbat distrobution map, you can see one here. Thanks. --Peta 06:09, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mixophyes

[edit]

It says in the abstract that the two new species were not suspected. So you may be thinking of something else. Either that, or they have taken a long time to write the paper. --liquidGhoul 05:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind if others can edit this list, so we have an idea of what is done, and what needs to be done further. Also, if we create an article, we can move it up the list, and if it is on everyone's watchlist, we can tell when a new article has been created. It would be good to have a link to it for the new Australian biota project. Also, I would like to bold those which have photographs. Thanks. --liquidGhoul 14:05, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page name

[edit]

For some reason I have been working on WA amphibians, because it is interesting to learn about them I suppose. It also gives me a break from controversial subjects, so don't think I'm going to be hard-nosed about this. How do you feel about the idea of putting them under their scientific names and using redirects for the common names. It seems to me that it would avoid any problems that might emerge with naming and ambiguity, especially if the rest of the world starts doing theirs.

Also, would you like me to notify you of the frog stubs I create so you can add those useful distribution maps. Or can you give me some tips on creating them without me bothering you with my stubs. BTW, you may be interested in this, I just did it for a bit of fun. I'm not sure if it is needed in main space. Regards Fred 19:24, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Vitellinus distribution.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Vitellinus distribution.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:Rheobatrachus silus.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Rheobatrachus silus.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:38, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Froggydarb's Userpage.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused personal photo. Out of scope.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 10:53, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
