Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because: possibly misleading username per WP:IU. If, after reviewing that policy, you believe your username does not violate policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you can file for a change of username, or you can simply create a new account and start using that one instead. Thank you. Syrthiss (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Hopefully I'm answering this correctly as this is my first time editing information on Wikipedia. Regarding my user name, the reason for the generality is because I work in the Fort Benning Public Affairs Office and we established this account so anyone in our office could edit, update and maintain information about our Army installation. Please let me know if this is still a cause for concern. Thank you. Fort Benning (talk) 18:39, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The recent edit you made to Fort Benning constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. Please do not continue to remove content from articles without explanation. Thank you. Ipatrol (talk) 19:33, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • And here you did it again. BTW, there is something about https://www.benning.army.mil/WHINSEC/--it requires some security certification, and as such can hardly count as a source to verify the information that it is supposed to back up. Surely you can find another source, one which is accessible to other editors. Thank you, and please refrain from reverting and removing sourced content. Role accounts

[edit]

I think you ought to have a look at Wikipedia's policy on accounts shared by several people: Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#'Role' accounts (which refers to meta:Role account). I would suggest that you confirm that this account is to be used by one person only, and invite other members of your staff to create alternative accounts. (This policy stems partly from copyright attribution issues; however, if you represent the office in an official capacity, you might want to discuss whether the copyright to be attributed to your office—i.e. the U.S. Army—instead of to yourself or one of your co-workers sharing this account.) This account, Fort Benning, has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because your username does not meet our username policy. This block is only regarding your username—it is not a judgment of either you personally or your contributions.

Names should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, misleading, or related to a "real-world" group or organization. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Cirt (talk) 03:08, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
