Got a digital camera?

If you have a digital camera, Wikipedia Commons DESPERATELY needs good photos of horses and horse equipment. There are a lot of images, but most are of horses grazing in pastures. I went through my tack room and shot a bunch of photos of bits, bridles, saddles, brushes, etc. If you see an article that needs an illustration, consider creating one and making it a free image on commons. Dr. Bristol??

Interesting edit, but how CAN you "rotate" a Dr. Bristol, unless it has the "hooks" of a Myler bit? Maybe explain that, or even photograph it; I would like to see an example. (I also noticed that the French link was described as always rounded, not all are, I'll tweak that) If it would help, I can photograph my French link from the side to show how the middle joint aligns with the bit, as a comparison... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Montanabw (talk • contribs) 16:35, 2 May 2007 (UTC).

Kind of a judgement call whether to talk things to death on the talk page, or just plug in the edit and watch what happens. Sort of depends on the "culture" of the article. Some articles (notably anything on military history) talk everything to death before a word is changed, other articles are completely rewritten with nary a peep on the talk page. The vast majority have a few dedicated editors and a bunch of whiners on the talk page who complain a lot but won't contribute an edit to save their souls. So as for your edit, I think it was fine for you to plug it in, as you weren't removing or dramatically changing anything else. Then others look at the edit and tweak it, sometimes people carry on whole discussions in the edit summery (usually snippy little comments, but hey, it's a discussion!) and people sometimes use hidden remarks in the text to flag issues. Your sketch was interesting, and indeed, I believe you are correct that it would only work with a full cheek. If you look at the French link photo, that's on a dee ring, no way to stabilize it other than the force of gravity. I think if you took your comments in the Dr. Bristol section and explained that with a full cheek you can make the adjustment, that would be OK. Love your screen name! Just saying hey to a fellow horse-loving wikipedian. Given your experience, I hope you can help revise/add to some of the hunter/jumper articles (which I added a lot to, despite my admitted limited knowledge, and so I'd love for someone to look over it and make sure its all correct). And I agree with Montanabw... any pictures (including the ones of your cute pony) would be nice to add to the database. There are very few pictures of hunter riding (more of show jumping), so... if you happen to be at, say, an A-rated show and you want to get a few, it would be great to have some of the top of the sport. Draw reins and running reins

Hi. I have split Draw reins and running reins, an article you have contributed to, into Draw rein and Running rein. Does that work for you? I had to guess about where to put some of the content; some paragraphs were not clear which thing was being discussed. Also, Martingale (tack) still has a lot of content about running reins aka German Martingale aka Market Harborough, which I think should be moved to Running rein. Basically, Martingale (tack) should also be split in two, along the lines of what I have done with the redirects to it in Template:Reins. --Una Smith (talk) 07:04, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
