Ranma 1/2 articles
[edit]Hi. I thought we should talk here before we start an editing war on the Ukyo Kuonji page, I removed the mention of her battle spatula being based on the ones used to prepare pizza because as far as I know, no official statement about that has been made by official sources, if you have some official statement, please add it; the same reason applies to her power level compared to Shampoo, there's no official statement about it and the way it is in the page, it definitively is fancruft and not really neutral, if you want it to stay, it can be modified to be neutral and not cruft.Facer 21:27, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, what I mean there is there is no official mention of it being a spatula either, yet it's referred to as 'Battle spatula' throughout the article. I know this is common fan terminology, but it to my knowledge is not any more supported than the peel. As to the other bit, I feel it just needs rewording, because the facts are correct (they did fight to a standstill in the anime, and have never had a conclusive battle in the manga), it just presents that poorly. Derekloffin 21:32, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, regarding the spatula thing, yeah, it is fan terminology, but the way you worded it could be changed into a more apropiate statement, like just mentioning her Battle Spatula resembles a pizza shovel instead of saying it was likely based on that tool (Which we don't officialy know, but I think it's very unlikely), since that would turn your contribution into a fan-based statement that could be considered cruft.
- As for the power levels, I do agree with you, as far as the manga goes the strongest and most skilled girl is Shampoo, followed by Akane and Ukyo (who are pretty much even if you consider the physical feats both acomplish in the manga) and Kodachi would be last. The problem is that it could degenerate into an edit war if its not worded better, just like you said. It would help if you reword that part (or I could do it over the weekend, it's the same to me), just try to avoid mentioning what fans think about it so it won't be confused as cruft. See ya.Facer 01:21, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
You know Derek, concering our anon friend who is messing up the template lately; I've been thinking, do you know of any admin who is willing to give us a hand dealing with him/her? I mean, most of his contribs are fancruft.Facer 19:55, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Afraid not, I'm pretty new here so I'm only familiar with a few frequent posters to the R 1/2 pages. Derekloffin 20:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's ok, I think I can get help with that.Facer 00:49, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Ranme 1/2 Merges
[edit]When you undid the revisions I made to Ranma Saotome (et al.) did you read the reason why I made them? 97.115.129.240 (talk) 19:01, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, but they were faulty as said discussion did exist on the ranma 1/2 characters page, you apparently just missed it. I've added a bit more clarity for such (as I can see how you could have missed it), but the merge headers should remain. Now whether they actually should be merged is another matter, and is currently being discussed. Derekloffin (talk) 20:18, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- I see that you did read the reason why I made the revisions. Please explain more carefully in the edit summary when you undo revisions. (I ran into and edit conflict while writing this.) 97.115.129.240 (talk) 19:15, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Re:Ranma images
[edit]Now, I don't consider myself an expert on Wikipedia's image policy, but I'll try to answer your question. If you find an image on the internet whose source is the copyright holder (if you found it on Viz's website, that's great), upload the image and include information about the author (Takahashi and/or Viz Video, since they own the rights to Ranma in the US), the url where you found it, a good fair use rationale (in this case, it's probably to illustrate the character, etc.) and a license tag (you probably want "single comic book panel" or the like). See Image:Yuna3.jpg for a good example of a properly uploaded image. Axem Titanium 03:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Merging a page

New Ranma section pages
[edit]Hi, I mentioned this at Brokensphere's talk page as well. Given that you seem to be the head maintainer, could you help me out in setting up the 'Battle recods', and more importantly 'Chapter by chapter characteristics reference' pages in a few days? Some of them (Ranma & Akane) are turning extremely (8 page+) long, but they really need to get out, to clean up the entire fandom mess, so people can swiftly browse and check for themselves. I could send them over to either of you and let you edit out irrelevant information before adding them if you'd like? Dave 15:46, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Just an update. Apparently it wasn't ok to add the battle records page to Wikipedia, so I screwed up, but quickly cleaned up my mess, but I learned that it was ok to create Wikifarms and then add closing links to them at the end, so it worked out all right. Better than intended in fact, since I could set up and link to the profile references as well. Feel free to use them at will. :) Dave 19:31, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Items in Ranma ½ page
[edit]Don't know if you've been following the debate, but the page was recently deleted. :( I've asked the admin responsible for a copy of the page and its talk page for archival purposes. --BrokenSphere 18:31, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I've been following it, but trying to keep out of it since my early comments since clearly the admin's don't care about their own rules. *opens mouth, closes it in disgust* I think I'm just going to take a little break for a few days as the admins here have lost all my respect. Derekloffin 18:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Please try not to take it too hard. This guy actually seems sensible. He was ok with re-uploading it once the references and shortening down was cleared up. That said the rules tend to be extremely tangled, confusing, and even contradictory, when applied in mismatched situations, so I can see how it's not all that easy to 'correctly' implement them. It was recently semi-butchered to a format without any character images, due to previously missing fair use rationales. I think I've pasted acceptable versions into all of them except Taro (due to a weird filter at this particular computer), but can't currently revert it without risking missing words for the very same reason. So is there any chance you could restore the version before Seraphimblade revisions, along with cutting a pasting one of the (virtually identical) justification texts in into the Taro image? Thanks for the help. Dave 19:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- You'll have to chat that out with Seraphimblade directly as apparently he doesn't feel rationales are good enough to warrant their restoration although I don't like the new format, it looks even worse than the old format. Perhaps one good full cast screen cap would do (I know the end of the manga has a two page spread with practically everyone, but that one is probably too much). Derekloffin 00:27, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- You mean similar to the one I composed for Ranma's sparring partners from the end of the first 6 OAV episodes? I like that idea. If you know some place where the full image (with all characters) are available, or something similar that would be great. Dave 14:14, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
I added {{Main|List of Ranma ½ characters}} to the Characters section. I am informing you as you (as well as others) seem to have forgotten it. 97.115.129.240 (talk) 20:07, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
- There seems to be some dispute over whether the rest of that section should even be there, but yeah adding that is fine as whether it should be there or not, a link to the other page there is best. Derekloffin (talk) 20:18, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Minor Ranma character image reduction
[edit]Since an admin's tagged the main minor characters page as possibly containing too many fair uses images, as we discussed here, I'm going to start going through this and the manga-only and anime-only pages and pulling images for the characters with the smallest writeups. If you disagree with some of the pulls I make, add them back in before they get deleted as a result of being orphaned. However I think it's better that we start pulling images where applicable and at least we were somewhat warned about it first, as opposed to someone else going in and pulling them all. BrokenSphereMsg me 15:17, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I rerealized that I'm not as familiar as the anime as you might be, so I'll leave more up to you with re. from what to pull from here. Thanks. BrokenSphereMsg me 15:42, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've gone thru and been pretty militant about it. I removed pretty much everyone that was just a toss away character with no character significance. Others, like Kogane are either temporary love interests of some character importance, or like Anna interesting in regards to Akari. Still would like a better ling ling lung lung pic. Only restored 1 pic you took out as they appear 3 times (no including the Christmas episode which I always exclude). Derekloffin 01:40, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your understanding. Not counting the Xmas OAV is a good point. I don't know if you follow the Naruto articles at all, but they were gutted today. If the same thing happens here, if the pic use is much less than it previously was, it could be argued that retention is justified, although even then I'm not too optimistic. I'm thinking of removing the movie charas as well since they only appear once. BrokenSphereMsg me 01:49, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- I suppose the best way to look at it is to be pretty militant at the start. You can always add them back later if it was too much. Derekloffin 03:32, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Ranma images being pulled
[edit]Hiya. I just thought I'd give you a heads-up that lots of images are currently being pulled, or are in danger of being pulled, for a very silly reason. The format has been modified to require providing a direct link to the referral page in question at the top. Several nice images on the minor characters page have already gone down, and I'm recurrently auto-'threatened' for the ones at "musabetsu kakuto ryu", and "fighting techniques". I pasted a standardisation on a few of them, but I'm out of time right now, and if you could find some people willing to go through all the Ranma images one by one to modify to the current required format (paste a link to the page they are used in) that would be great. Thanks. Dave 17:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
I've updated the FURs for only those images that had them in all the Ranma articles. The bot notices seem to affect only these for the moment. I didn't add FURs for those images without them. BrokenSphereMsg me 20:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Excess fair use image in Ranma character articles
[edit]This was raised on the WP:Anime and on the main Ranma talk page. I agree that we have to cut down on the images, but have been waiting for you and Dave to chip in to the discussion before removing any of your uploads. I should also add that if you have orphaned images which you would like to delete, a faster way to do this and avoid all the bot notices is to tag them yourself with {{db-author}}. BrokenSphereMsg me 19:46, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I definitely agree there are too many as is. While many are helpful, most are generally don't pass the need rule. Don't worry about removing any that I may have uploaded, I'm fine with it. I would personally limit it to 1 per character myself. Derekloffin (talk) 21:19, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the understanding. Dave though has most of the uploads, but hasn't been on in a few days. I'll ping him to direct his attention to the discussion. If you don't mind looking through the articles yourself especially at the minor characters who were merged in, particularly those who were manga only, as I'm not sure how much page time they had, and making a call on whether or not their pics if any should stay or go, that would be appreciated. If you think we need to come up with a threshold of notability for retaining an image, let me know and we can discuss on the main Ranma talk page. Thanks. BrokenSphereMsg me 23:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've gone thru all the pages that popped up on my watch list for this. I commented them out in most cases rather than outright removal just in case. Derekloffin (talk) 00:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Things you should be aware of
[edit]My concern at the bottom here goes unanswered. Perhaps you can shed some light? And I too have noticed that JJonz continues his time wasting sock attacks. Did you know that you can have ips blocked? Just follow the right CHECKUSER procedure. Lord Sesshomaru (talk • edits) 21:32, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't the one to change them so that's why I didn't respond and had no real argument (beyond the misgivings I've already talked about). The current setup is fine by me. I would prefer references if possible, but that preference isn't strong enough to raise a big fuss over it.Derekloffin (talk) 22:19, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh and thanks for pointing that out, but I'm thinking he's using different IPs (probably using a school connection or something similar) so I doubt it would be effective sadly. Derekloffin (talk) 22:21, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

The claim of being a graduate of communications fits, but he's only interested in anime as far as I'm aware, not US comics, and it seems like way too much of a coincidence to bump into him here in an unrelated matter. So, I really don't know what to make of him, and what to do about edits he is making that are unconfirmable. Ranma Wikia?
[edit]I currently don't have time to be around to keep track more than very cursorily twice a month of so, but given our earlier discussion about this possibility, and the "notability" tags that are starting to show up at the character pages, which will likely lead to nearly complete wipeouts of the entire section within a few months going by what little I've seen elsewhere, I would greatly appreciate it if you, User:BrokenSphere or others would be interested in moving our work, by creating a Ranma Wikia in the meantime, or at least back it all up to reinstall it there later. This would also give you tyhe chance to create additional sections and feature more images depending on preference.

Sozin's Comet FAC
[edit]Hey, Nuke and I are planning on another FAC push. He's done a bit of editing recently, and we were hoping for someone to come and just give it another quick review before we ship it off. Thanks! --haha169 (talk) 18:31, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:AmazonVillage.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:AmazonVillage.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 07:51, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Re:Consensus discussion on character to include on List of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters
[edit]This response comes nearly half a year late and I am truly sorry for that. Somehow, I seem to have missed your request. I have given my input for the discussion at Talk:List_of_Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender_characters#Characters, and I have some concerns about the current state of the list. Thanks! --haha169 (talk) 22:29, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Green lantern Page dispute
[edit]
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, please place a new {{help me}} request on this page followed by your questions, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page. |
I'm having an editing dispute on Green Lantern: The Animated Series and List of Green Lantern: The Animated Series episodes (both on the same issue) with another editor(User:799272OO2). I don't want to further the revert battle so need some assistance on the issue to resolve it. Derekloffin (talk) 23:14, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, I warned the user about edit warring (See the three revert rule). I suggest asking 799272OO2 to reply at the article's talk page. Please do not revert his edit though, as it will only make things worse (Unless you add a source in the edit summary and be very descriptive)! If he does not reply to your suggestion or you need more advice then give me a shout Cheers, Riley Huntley talk No talkback needed; I'll temporarily watch here. 02:37, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Toph image issue (answer)
[edit]Hi. I remember that image : I've moved it (Toph ep26.png -> Toph chief.png) after an user request (before a control, of course, if it was a normal request). This is the edit. If I have well understood what you said, it were two different images about this character (Toph... this cartoon is unknown by me), merged into one... or something similar. This action wasn't done by me, because it is out of my technical knowledges/possibilites and because my only practice about Wikipedia (non-Commons) images is only to move 'em after request or to categorize. If you mean that the desire is to revert image to the previous title (Toph ep26.png), by now a redirect, it is possible adding {{rename media}} (showing a reason). Due to the fact that this file name exists, the action could by done not by a simple filemover (as me) but by an admin, that may delete the file redirect (Toph ep26.png) to move the actual file name (Toph chief.png) into the other. Yes, it is possible and could be done quickly by an admin. Sorry for the eventual problem, because when I find a move request I control reasons, who requested it and other. Sorry for my English, I hope I was clear :-) . Anyway, placing the template I linked above in the image with a reason, the page will be moved soon. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 00:11, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, figured it was already gone by the time you got to it. Thanks for the response. We'll just have to get a new one I'm guessing. Derekloffin (talk) 01:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
