Successful RfA

[edit]
Thanks for your support on my recent RfA, which I am pleased to say passed with a final tally of 80/1/1. If you ever need any help, or if I mess something up as an admin, please let me know.

I'm an admin now!!

[edit]

Thanks for voting on my RFA and helping me become an admin. The final tally was 108-0-1 (putting me on the WP:100 list. I hope to do my best in upholding the integrity of Wikipedia. Thanks again, Gator (talk) 13:19, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

But one of the prerequisites of becoming trustworthy enought to gain admin tools, is to have been a good (maybe even excellent) contributor. You may have seen on RfA, that users who have definitely proven themself trustworthy to the community (through extensive community participation), do not get admin tools simply because their contribution to the encyclopedia is not enough. Now, regarding the template, since nobody has criticized it for so long, I would prefer to let it remain there, unless I receive some criticism.--May the Force be with you! My RFA Withdrawal :(

[edit]

Hello DaGizza, it is my apologies to bring you that I've withdrawn my RFA. Due to the lack of experience, I would go under admin coaching first before trying again later. I would thank you for your vote in this RFA whether you voted support, oppose or neutral for me. I appreciate your comments (if you do have) you made and I hope to see you here in future. --Terence Ong 15:12, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Smurrayinchester's RFA

[edit]
Thank you, DaGizza/Archive/5
Thank you! for voting in my RFA. It passed with a result of 100/1/0. Thanks for your vote! If you have any comments, please say so here. Thank you!

Hey DaGizza, I see you've done some work on the Indian cricket team page in the past. I've nominated as a possible candidate as Indian Collaboration of the Week and would appreciate your vote to see it pass through and possibly rise to the status of Featured Article. Thanks... Rama's arrow

[edit]

"...Rama turned his bow to the sky and shot the arrow of Vishnu flaming into the darkness with which Parasurama had enveloped them. That shaft of infinite trajectory still flies through the deepest galaxies. Some say the earth will end on the day Rama's arrow returns." (Ramesh Menon, The Ramayana (2003), pp. 59)

Why I respect Rama so much

[edit]

As for Shaivism, its a great philosophy but in Hinduism, there are no distinctions. I understand that Shiva is the same as Vishnu, Jehovah and Allah - the ultimate goal.

I asked for a week to think properly about the question you asked, of why I was fascinated with Rama. Thanks, becoz I learnt some new stuff myself. Its easy to describe Rama - good, kind, powerful, just, etc....Yet all these are properties recognized amongst humans, and his basic body is recognized amidst all life. Yet nobody has a clue to the real nature of that Man who stood before and amongst so many men. So near, yet so far....the ever-perplexing and eduring journey for God.

Btw, I fully understand that Rama might have been just a human king who through the course of time was elevated to God-head. I'm not perturbed by such a possibility becoz I don't think anybody knows God completely, and so everything is a stepping stone - and anyways, who are we to identify who/what/... God is or is not? Cheers, Rama's Arrow 21:35, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Amateur AFL teams

[edit]

Hello daGizza. Good work on all those AFL teams. Recently, North Carolina Tigers was put on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/North Carolina Tigers by myself, with the result being to merge the team to its respective league - United States Australian Football League, on the grounds that the performance and competition level is not of first-class standard, although the leagues in themselves are of interest. At the time I wrote a rather large discussion, indicating that the AfD could be a litmus-test or precedent for similar AFL teams and I would like to see what people think about this, as to I (or someone else) should go ahead and merge them, without sending a whole pile to AfD. I have posted this at WP:AWNB and WP:AFL and would appreciate some feedback.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 02:45, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me and India

[edit]

Hmm, there may be a few factors, but I'm not sure.

  • Flamboyant cricketing style, I like spin bowling much more than fast bowling
  • I haven't identified as such, but I'm supposed to be Buddhist (I don't think that I represent Buddhism though) and a few family have made pilgrimages to Bodh Gaya and Varanasi, which I will do someday
  • Indian friends at HS and now Uni

It's good to see that my RfA nomination hasn't had any incriminating side-effects. I have archived some of my talk, but some of it is still only 5 weeks old, so I don't feel that it is dead, buried and decayed just yet. You may want to check Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar because I feel that User:Doctorbruno is making selective statistical edits and random micro-analysis of selected events which I feel contravene NPOV. They appear to be suggestive in that Tendulkar > Dravid. Regards, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 01:45, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New format user pages

[edit]

Hey Girik, Jarrah here. My User page is a bit drab compared to yours, I was wondering how I might get the features you have, like the Babel, and little summary of the things I am on it. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks, Sastrawan 10:38, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

[edit]
Thank you!

Thank you for supporting / opposing / vandalising my RFA! The result was 71/3/0 and so I am now still a normal user / an administrator / indefinitely banned. Your constructive criticism / support / foulmouthed abuse has given me something to think about / helped me immensely / turned me into a nervous wreck. If there's any way I can help you in return, please ask someone else / suffer and die / drop me a line! --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 19:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr Blanning, thank you for choosing the ACME Auto-thanker! Simply strike out the phrases that do not apply and tear off this strip at the indicated line to give all your supporters and detractors the personalised response they so richly deserve.
N.B: DO NOT FORGET TO TEAR THIS BIT OFF, MORON!

Yes, I am an Indian Australian. How'd you work it out though? I considered joining WP:AFL but don't believe I can contribute too much apart from giving information on matches or famous matches.

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for the luck. I hope you keep this Fundy Watch thing on.. i'm currently bogged down with studies and blogging, hence havent been able to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia this month, but i think i'll have more free time in April. As for the nomination, i wanted to nominate you! Too bad somebody beat me to it. Anyways looks as if you are sure to become an admin, lucks mate. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Thank you for supporting/opposing/commenting on my request of adminship, sadly the result was 54/20/7 an thus only 73% support votes, resulting in that the nomination failed. As many of you commenting that I have to few main-space edits, I'll try to better my self on that part. If you have any ideas on what kind of articles I could edit, pleas send me a line. :) AzaToth

The Sydneian

[edit]

Hi. To be honest I wouldn't have a clue about the copyright status of the book. I wouldn't think that any part of the book would be allowed to be copied in any way. Paintings, short stories and poems shouldn't really be copied for sure, but I'm guessing that's not the part of the book you're thinking of using. Could you specify what part of which edition you're thinking of using?

I know that if you go to the library you can pick up old versions dating back to last century I think, and based on Australian copyright laws you'd be allowed to you anything before 1955.

Anyway send me a message letting me know what exactly you're thinking of copying - there's not really much you can use that talks about the history though. Cheers, mdmanser 09:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't think my sentence was POV, it simply stated that the award is of greater importance to the winner than a lot of other sports, for example football (soccer). Please give a good reason why you deleted it, or I shall revert it. -- Boothman 13:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

RfA Results and Thanks

[edit]
DaGizza/Archive/5, thank you for supporting me in my recent RfA. Although it did not succeed as no consensus was declared (final: 65/29/7), I know that there is always an opportunity to request adminship again. If and when that day comes, I hope you will once again support me. If at any time I make any mistakes or if you would like to comment on my contributions to Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to do so. Regardless of your religious, cultural, and personal beliefs, I pray that whatever and whoever motivates you in life continues to guide you on the most righteous path.
