Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, DCAFcommsmgr. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Cahk (talk) 10:07, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, We have added the COI on our user page. Can you unblock the account? Please include the following information in every request:

Blocking administrator: LexICon Reason for blocking: User account not verified despite request Ineligibility begins: 02:41, Jan. 5, 2021 End of suspension: unlimited IP address: 93.8.34.102 Lock applies to: DCAFcommsmgr ( http://de.wiki.x.io/wiki/Spezial:Beitr%C3%A4ge/DCAFcommsmgr ) Block ID: # 2490174 DCAFcommsmgr (talk) 08:09, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

There was no block on this account directly, but there is now because your username violates the username policy and you have also violated the conflict of interest and paid editing policies. Please follow the instructions I will place below to request unblock. 331dot (talk) 09:48, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 09:48, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand why I have been blocked. I had no intention of promoting a business or a product, I created the account to update information on Wikipedia about the security sector (DCAF included), gender and security as it is my expertise. My goal is to provide accurate information. I understood that editing pages should not include external links and I will not do it in the future or anything that could not follow the Wikipedia rules and content policies. I have also added the COI on my user page to follow the disclosure rules. Below is my connected contributor paid request (with my current and new username) I understand that in the future, If I want to update the DCAF page, I need to use the Talk page to mention the "connected contributor paid" information and explain the reason of the change. I hope it is ok and that you could change my username and unblocked my account.

Decline reason:

One open unblock request at a time, please. SQLQuery me! 00:00, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I see that you have attempted to make disclosures on your userpage, but you've made a few mistakes.

  1. You left the "nowiki" tags around the code, which prevents it from displaying properly.
  2. {{UserboxCOI}} is not the correct template for you to use, anyway. Since you are employed by the organization, the correct template to use is {{paid}}.
  3. I see that you have included a page on French Wikipedia. While we appreciate your transparency, French Wikipedia is a separate project, and editors on English Wikipedia have no involvement with articles there (unless there are blatant cases of cross-wiki spamming). You don't need to list the French wiki page here.
  4. That said, I have left messages at fr:Discussion utilisateur:DCAFcommsmgr concerning your username and paid editing status, as they relate to the policies on French Wikipedia.

Thank you/Merci. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:49, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thanks for you answer.

  1. I will edit my user page with , instead of the Userbox COI. However I am blocked, and I cannot edit it. Is it something you can do on my user page and then unblock me?
  2. Thanks for the French discussion, I will also do the correct user page there.

Have you also read, and understood, our rules regarding conflict of interest? Chiefly, you would need to refrain from editing any article with which you have a COI directly. Instead, the change would need to be proposed on the article talk page, and reviewed by editors without a COI. (You can add the text {{request edit}} above or below the proposed edit to ask for review.) Do you understand, and are you willing to agree to follow, that and our other COI guidelines for editing? Comment: what is the point of blocking a user for promotional edits without removing those promotional edits as well? . . Mean as custard (talk) 10:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
