Hey

[edit]

Hi. Please do not change my sig in discussion pages. Thanks :)  INFORMATION CENTER©   Talk   Contribs  05:16, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting WP:SYPOTP: "Very long signatures that contain a lot of code ("markup") make it difficult for some editors to read talk pages while editing." "Long signatures with a lot of HTML/wiki markup make page editing more difficult." I consider your sig to be very long. In my full width edit window on a 1024x768 monitor, it takes up 11 lines, which is 11 times larger than the preceding comment. This is pretty distracting when I'm trying to edit pages. It's 760 bytes long. Note also that my sig only takes up 2 lines in the edit window. ~Crazytales (talk) 13:16, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for nominating me for RfA! It succeeded, and I now have The Tools – which I'm planning to use as wisely as I possibly can. I hope I will be worth your confidence. Thanks again! :-) –mysid 20:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm Javitomad, a Spanish user of English wikipedia.

I've seen you've created some articles about Spanish culture.

Because of that, I want to give you a Barnstar, the Spanish Barnstar.

Faithfully. Javitomad (...tell me...)

Thanks! May I ask which article you noticed I had created? ~Crazytales (IP locations!) 18:43, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Users may do what they wish with their own talk pages. They are not required to keep anything there if they do not want to (an exception existing for vandals). While the edit summary was slightly incivil, restoring the comments was not appropriate. In addition, I encourage you to read this essay, as you might find it helpful. You know, you could have just slapped me with a {{templater}}. But seriously, point taken. Templating Dev may have been seen as a bit unfeeling. ~Crazytales (IP locations!) 02:30, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why I use a proxy

[edit]

I use it for security. Wikipedia doesn't prohibit editing with an account via a proxy. They just don't allow editing directly through the proxy. --Azer Red Si? 00:57, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I don't edit through a proxy and tend to view proxy usage dimly as it's a nice way to bypass account blocks. Sorry about that. ~Crazytales (IP locations!) 12:58, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Itunes47SS.PNG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Itunes47SS.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECUtalk 23:54, 30 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hi. Could you provide links to your RfA's? It'd help reviewers focus on any problem areas, and you could also provide a summary of what you've done since those RFA's to correct the problems. Xiner (talk, email) 17:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hey Chris, I noticed that you had planned to take pix of both Whiting and Longway (articles I wrote! yay!). That makes me happy, and what I was hoping to do was get a good night shot of Whiting for the lights and any shot of Longway. The only problem is, I have not been down to the Cultural Cen. recently. Well, randomly, I said this all. Anyway, I just thought that a night shot would be best for Whiting due to its lights. What do you think? --tennisman sign here! 04:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hello Crazytales,

Effeietsanders seems to be inactive on nl:wiki for the moment, regretfully. Re your question to him: the oldest literary fragment in Dutch is hebban olla uogala nestas bigunnan hinase hic enda thu / wat unbidan wi?, meaning "All birds [fowl] have started nests, except for you and me; what are we waiting for?" The user page varies on this, replacing uagala with uiki. Best regards, Bessel Dekker 18:51, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Audio Signpost

[edit]

I'd be most concerned with you covering the main stories. For other stuff:

  • WikiWorld- I'd make a brief reference to WikiWorld and this week's topic ("Hodag" this week)
  • News and notes- I'd do the stories, but not necessarily the "X Wikipedia has 500 articles" stuff, etc.
  • In the news- Whatever seems important to you.
  • Features and admins- I'd mention the administrators and featured articles; the rest is optional (and obviously featured pictures would be tough)
  • Technology report- You could probably ignore anything that you don't deem important.
  • Arbitration report- Maybe just cover the new cases and closed cases? The rest you could do if you want.

But it's all up to you. As far as licensing goes, there are issues; you'd probably have to license it under the GFDL since that's what the text is licensed as. If you get the audio project going, I might ask contributors if they'd be willing to license their contributions under the CC-BY-SA license. Ral315 » 19:41, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me about this quickly. Image:En-WPSignpost 2007 04 16.ogg is my effort at this week's edition. I'm covering all the main stories, ITN, News and notes (including milestones), and BRION. (Well, there was no BRION this week, so I didn't have anything to cover.) I'm not doing the TROLL report on orders from ShakespeareFan; I guess it's not relevant to WikiCast. I didn't do WikiWorld this week, since images don't translate well to text. I'll probably do it next week though - referto what it is and where to read it, as well as the topic du semaine. What I'm doing as far as the main stories (and everything else really) is summarising it to about 1/3 size - saves on tedium. With a full Signpost, that means by my seat-of-the-pants judgement it'll take about 20 minutes or thereabouts. I'm also using the Image:Arpeggio.ogg music by Oona Svan, which is CC-BY-SA. So I'm split-licencing the file as CC-BY-SA for the intro music and GFDL for the spoken content from Signpost itself. Again, thanks for getting back to me about the Signpost, and I'd like your input on the audio files. Cheers, ~Crazytales 01:38, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I'd say that even for WikiCast, if someone's listening to things like the technology report and news and notes, TROLL would be relevant- to me, it's all internal wiki-related news. But that's ShakespeareFan's department, not mine, and I have no problem excluding it as well. I'll try to listen to this week's edition tomorrow or Friday and give more input. Hello, Crazytales. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:VandalProof icon.jpg) was found at the following location: User talk:Crazytales/Archive. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 10:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Since Republicofwiki (talk · contribs) has not been connected with any known blocked user, banned editor or abusive sockpuppet, I do not see any rationale for an indefinite block. Unspecified source for Image:Ah-HA!_Familiprix!.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ah-HA!_Familiprix!.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:12, 8 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 10:12, 8 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Remember you doubted your admin eligibility by AGFing me? [2]. Seeing that you indeed got your adminship, it shows that when you give the benefit of the doubt, everyone is a winner. I know in that situation how tempting it is to paint that person as a "troll" and block them. BuickCenturyDriver 06:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
