File:Motherussia.jpg | Zdorovo, Conscious, and thank you for your support at my request for adminship, which ended with an awe-inspiring 86/1/2 result. Do I need to give it process - or I can just zap it? - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 14:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you are asking. I saw that a category (Category:Wikipedia articles whose topics' importance is unclear) was redlinked, so I went to investigate. I then saw that the template that was using that category ({{notability}}) used to link to Category:Wikipedia articles that need their importance to be explained. I went there and it says "Note: this category has been changed to Category:Wikipedia articles with topics of unclear importance." As a result, I changed the notability template to reflect that. I'm sorry if I've created any confusion. Amalas =^_^= 17:05, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Just got your note about User:JDoorjam. Hopefully this will all get cleared up. Amalas =^_^= 17:07, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for your help. Amalas =^_^= 17:35, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Followup
[edit]Was confused by the message "Note: this category has been changed to Category:Wikipedia articles with topics of unclear importance. After the category has been emptied, per CFD, it should be deleted." at Category:Wikipedia articles whose topics' importance is unclear until I traced your, Amalas and JDoorjam's messages to each other. Hopefully noone else will be puzzled by the mismatch between CfD outcome and action taken. Glad a duplication of categories was spotted. Regards, David Kernow 23:23, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]2006 FIFA World Cup (squads) has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.
Isn't it annoying when someone pastes a big piece of text like that, then other people work hard on improving the article, oblivious to the fact that the starting point was a copyvio? I've now gone through and added back many of the things people had added to the article, plus a few extra things from pages I've referenced. So the article is half decent again now! Copyright issues on Open Letter to Hobbyists
[edit]I disagree with your decision to remove the letter text on copyright grounds. The title alone suggests Gates gave permission to freely distribute the letter. Would you agree to have it hashed out by Wikipedians with an interest in copyright at Wikipedia:Possible copyright infringements? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dgies (talk • contribs)
Tyndale copyvio
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you redirected the copyvio article Tyndale University College & Seminary to Tyndale University College and Seminary. I agree with the redirect, but I think the article should have been deleted first, then redirected, so that the copyright material is purged from the viewable history.
I deleted the redirect article/history, then re-created the redirect. If you disagree with me, please let me know. Thanks. Mindmatrix 21:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the note. Wikipedia:Copyright violations seems to have two different cases; for short bits of copyvio in a larger text, it simply says to remove it, but if the entire text is copyvio, then "after a week, the page still appears to be a copyright infringement, then it may be deleted following the procedures on the votes page." At least, that's how I interpret it. Mindmatrix 21:37, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion, please. I've got all templates done, and am ready to do the half a dozen shortcuts with the edit screens ready to go, but just discovered that the page is move protected.
- I'm sorry, but I won't move. The page is move protected for a reason, and I suggest you launch a formal move request in order to perform this rename. In addition, as one of the important Wikipedia processes in concerned, publicising the proposal at WP:VPR (or WP:VPP) and WP:CBB might be in order. Conscious 07:50, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, after weeks of sporadic discussion on its Talk, and agreement on the name, and my posting status of the steps involved.... Oh well, I'll just post the list of edits there, and some enterprising admin can do it when they feel like it. I just thought it should be done at the low server load.
The image is from the archives of Tower Hamlets council (where the station was located). When I asked the archivist about it, I was told that they consider any council photos taken pre-1950 or so to be public domain; as I understand it, Crown Copyright only lasts for 50 years anyway. Move of Low German to Low Saxon
[edit]Hi Conscious
I see you have closed Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 June 19#Category:Low Germanic languages, renaming it to Category:Low Saxon-Low Franconian languages. User:Gilgamesh and me have moved the corresponding articles (see Talk:Low Germanic languages#Requested moves).
The only page that remains to be moved is Low German to Low Saxon, since Low Saxon-Low Franconian languages should obviously consist of Low Saxon and Low Franconian, not of Low German and Low Franconian. However, Low Saxon (currently a redirect to Low German) has been edited a few times, so I am not able to perform that last move by myself, but I need an administrator's help.
Would you be so kind as to make that move? (You are an administrator, right?) You need not worry about linkfixes, since the move shouldn't cause any double redirects from the main article namespace, and I'm going to fix the other links once the article is moved. ― j. Thanks for Supporting my RfA!
[edit]Thank you for supporting my RfA, which passed by a margin of 54/6/1. Sorry I haven't thanked you yet, but since I am hand-typing each of these, it takes a while. NWA Virginia Title pages
[edit]The pages were put on Wikipedia with the permission of NWA Virginia and its owner, Rick O'Brien.
- I see. For the text to be on Wikipedia, it must be licensed under GFDL. If the copyright holder wants to give permission to use the text under this license, two simplest ways to do this are:
- to put a notice on the NWA Virginia's pages saying they are licensed under GFDL, or
- to send explicit permission to Wikimedia via email (it's also possible to send permission to an administrator, e.g. me; this will probably work faster)

- While the notice does include Google TB explicitly, I really can see no other explanation for the undocumented dissapearance of half of the page for no reason. Maybe it's a bug in FF as well? The wording isn't too clear, and maybe it's just inaccurate. I just think you should either investigate this further or be wary of what your edits are doing behind your back. --UlTiMuS - ( T | C ) 21:21, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Rugby
[edit]Hi Conscious, great job at writing the World Cup article in Russian! I was wondering whether you have any idea where the Russian Superleague article is on the ru wiki? The RS is the domestic championship in Russia, and from what I have heard is fully professional, but I cant find enough info on the net to write about it on the english wiki, so I though I would ask if you know if it exists on the RU wiki..? Cheers. Cvene64 14:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ah I see, I'm guessing you rewrote most of the rugby union article on the ru wiki? If so, fantastic job! Thats a pity about the Superleague though, I was hoping to find a list of champions or something. In regards to the Nations Cup, the 'A' teams, are basically second best teams, but it varies, for example, I think the majority of the current Australia A team have played for Australia, but other nations may be using rookies, just domestic-based players or even under-21 players, so I'm not sure what level Argentina and Italy were at for that comp, hope that helps though. Also, you should really add your name to the WikiProject Rugby union participants list. If you don't mind me asking, do you live in Russia? Cheers. Cvene64 15:19, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh ok, so he expanded that article, and I see you live in Saint Petersburg, a place I plan to see one day! Thanks for your compliments, and keep editing those rugby articles! Cheers. Cvene64 15:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:A Turkish Kaleidoscope (1926)- Ankara Bazaar.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:A Turkish Kaleidoscope (1926)- Ankara Bazaar.png. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

SVG logos
[edit]I've marked a number of SVG logos you have uploaded as copyright violations. Please read WP:FU, it says that only low-resolution images qualify as fair use, and SVG images are not low-resolution by definition. That said, I think you should refrain from uploading SVG logos and linking to them from the articles. Copying all contents of Brandsoftheworld to Wikipedia is not a good idea either. Conscious 06:41, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've read it in the past, and I'm not the first or the only to upload SVG logos to Wikipedia. I'm not uploading high resolution logos, none are wider than a few hundred pixels. If someone opens them up in Inkscape and makes them 20000x20000, that's their copyright violation, not mine. Also, I'm not "Copying all contents of Brandsoftheworld to Wikipedia." All logos uploaded to Wikipedia are used in their respective articles. I'm not uploading for nonexistant images. However, I will be modifying my template that I use for the information (Template:Brands of the World SVG). --Keeleysam 00:04, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Abortion map
[edit]What, exactly, was your reason for inexplicably and unilaterally deleting Image:AbortionLawsAroundtheWorld.png? You have failed to transfer at least one discussion topic from the seperate Talk pages of Image_talk:AbortionLawsAroundtheWorld.png to Image_Talk:AbortionLawsMap.png. There was second topic on South Dakota, which, I imagine, is now gone beyond recall. You have also failed to readd the image to the categories Category:Abortion maps and Category: Maps of status worldwide. It would've been appreciated if you would have discussed your concerns with me, beforehand, as I am the one who created and regularly updates the image. -Severa (!!!) 22:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Bot error
[edit]You may not be aware of it, but Cyde's bot has implemented the exact opposite of two of your decisions on CfD. It moved Category:English & British princes to Category:Princes of England and Britain and Category:English & British princesses to Category:Princesses of England and Britain to the new names even though the majority voted no and you rightly concluded that the only decision taken was to remove the ampersand. Pictures
[edit]Hi. I'm guessing you're tidying up the titles on pictures, I've noticed a few edits on motorsports related ones. In some cases you may be removing useful information, such as the 'F1' from the picture of Emerson Fittipaldi - if the info is held in the picture title it can't be lost. Just something to bear in mind. Cheers. 4u1e 20:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- See what you mean. I guess that means someone else put them on commons (legitimately) since I only uploaded them here. I should probably start uploading stuff directly to commons rather than to Wikipedia, where appropriate. I'm not sure I agree re the details, by the way, in the title they are not liable to random editing or other forms of data loss - and the more detail in the title the less liklihood of a duplicated pic title. No big deal, however. Cheers. 4u1e

[:Image:El_Campello_Tower.jpg]
[edit]Could you please explain why you replaced the original image, which I uploaded in November 2005, with a copy of my image that had the image name changed. and why my original image was deleted from Wikipedia? I have now re-uploaded my image and reverted the El Campello edit to point back to my original creation, with my original Title. To have such a change and deletion made without being at least consulted I find to be rather rude. Richard Harvey 16:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have deleted the image under the speedy deletion criterion I9, because it has been marked with {{NowCommons}} since 12 May. Now there are two copies of your image, one on Wikipedia and one on Commons, and I don't see why both should stay. Is there any reason for this? Conscious 16:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- No information was placed on my talk page about my image being marked for deletion, I see no reason why it should have been so. The original image, which I created and uploaded, Was 'El_Campello_Tower.jpg', that is the image that should be retained on wiki. I suspect that the second image with the Spanish naming was downloaded and then re-uploaded, with a new name, for use on the Spanish Wiki. Could you please delete the copy - [:Image:Torre_del_Campello.jpg]. Thank you. Richard Harvey 16:27, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I cannot delete the image with the Spanish title because it resides on Commons. Furthermore, it should not be deleted, because it's visible from all Wikipedias. (That's why we have Commons, an image is uploaded there and can be used everywhere.) It is the original image that's redundant. Conscious 16:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Am I then to assume that any person can download an image of mine change its Title then re-upload it and have my original deleted? Which is pointless! As then it could be again downloaded and reuploaded with another name again. My cursory check does indeed indicate that the image was downloaded and reuploaded to the Spanish wiki page with a new name. If you look at the image you will see my initials in the rock face directly below the tower!. I again strongly request that my original Image and title remains and the copy is deleted. Please note that this also affects my contribution list as I am no longer attributed with the image in my List if it is deleted. Should someone decide to download all my contributed images, change the titles and then re-upload them, after which my originals are deleted I will not have the images listed as my contributions. I would be most unhappy if this is so. Richard Harvey 16:53, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- You've got it wrong. The transfer of image is to happen only once, from Wikipedia to Commons, making it available for Wikipedia editions in all languages. The images are identical indeed; I wouldn't have done the deletion otherwise. Are you sure that you understand how Commons works and what was achieved by moving the image? Conscious 16:55, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes the image is deleted from your contributions list. That is one more thing that may encourage you to upload images directly to Commons. You're still credited as the author of the image, though. Conscious 17:00, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

- Im sorry but I cannot accept that! How can I be visibally credited with the image when it has had its Image Title changed and also been deleted from my contributions list. Yes it may have my name on and say Source = http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Image:El_Campello_Tower.jpg. But! even though it has been moved to a wiki section, which I did not upload it to, it does not show up in my personal contributions list. I am most unhappy about this. I have contributed a considerable number of images to wiki and do not want to suddenly find this happening to all of them. I am not a great editor for text But images yes, so that is what I rely on to show how I help. What is in my contributions list is how other editors judge what sort of person I am and if or not I have any value. I would also assume other contributors would feel the same, should this happen to them. This is a serious issue, to me, and there must be someway to address it so that my contributions show in my list. The issue here is that my contribution has been copied changed and reuploaded by an unregistered editor, who has not even had the courtesy to contact me first about doing so - therefore that copy should be deleted. If this is to be how it is then I will have to seriously consider if I wish to continue contributing images to wiki. Indeed even if I should request that my previous contributions are also deleted forthwith. Richard Harvey 17:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Conscious - fair enough to move this to commons, but why did you change it to a much lower resolution .png file? (and additionally with a weird blue background). [edit]Conscious Hi! I have completed transferring my images from Wiki/en to commons. I noted your message on Meegs talkpage about licences. I have re-uploaded the ones that had the no commercial useage tags. with different named images using the cc-by licence. I would be gratefull if you could delete the images you mentioned:-

Many Thanks. Richard Harvey 19:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok! They have all been delinked and marked {{duplicate}}. Thanks Richard Harvey 20:12, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. I have now changed the coding to {{badname}}. and I think correctly re-linked all the relevant article, pages and their linked pages with images, pages back to my images. Richard Harvey 10:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Image redirects on Commons
[edit]Sorry Conscious, my bot doesn't have "authorization" on Commons. Additionally, there's really no such thing as an image redirect. However, what you could do is replace the images at the old filenames with "The correct filename is <filename>". That way, people can take note and start fixing accordingly. —this is messedrocker

- Oh-ho-ho! You meant changing links on Wikipedia! I'd be glad to do it, but my bot (read: dedicated AutoWikiBrowser outlet) has been acting a bit pear-shaped lately. Not to mention that I'm literally thousands of miles away from it ;). However, I'd be glad to upload messages in place of the old versions of the files. Heck, I could even draw SVG versions of those images! —

[edit]Hello, could you please help me resolve the dispute with User:Lowg on the SCG/SER issue on both UEFA Champions League 2006-07 and UEFA Cup 2006-07? I feel that the two flags adequately represent the situation and this is a good compromise, but Lowg refuses to budge. Since you're aware of the issue and you changed the Intertoto page to the two flag version, could you please add another voice to this discussion. Thanks. - Pal 19:24, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Just wanted to thank you for getting involved in the dispute. It's very frustating spending so much time and energy on something like that instead of working on something more productive, so hopefully we can get a broad range of opinions on this since it's obvious that myself and Pal do not see eye to eye on this issue. --Lowg 20:05, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
