Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Dear Cheddington2001: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

PS Thanks for all your contributions in the last 2 days -- you're off to a fast start! Wikipedia always needs good, new content. I hope you'll expand some of your new stuff as well as adding more articles. I noticed some of your contributions were Crosse-related, so I'm guessing there's a possibility these people may have been ancestors as well as historical figures. If they're "notable", that's OK -- I've corrected information in existing articles on some of my own ancestors -- but you must be extra diligent to make sure your work meets Wikipedia's guidelines (see Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Vanity guidelines).

Anyway, thanks for all the contributions -- keep them coming!

Yes - Cheddington is a beautiful village, as are the surrounding ones.

Cheltenham College

[edit]

Greetings

You have reverted the Cheltenham article to exclude my early reference to Cheltenham College without any explanation. Please would you kindly explain by leaving a message on my user talk page? If there is good reason then I have no problem with the exclusion.

Thanks

Hi. The issue has been discussed ad nauseum on Talk:Cheltenham (talk page is always your first port of call if you find resistence to your edits) and consensus was to only mention the Ladies College. (I orginally argued for inclusion of Cheltenham College; we lost). The problem is that everyone thinks their school is fascinating and should be mentioned, in reality we should only be making a point of mentioning those which are internationally famous and it was felt that this school is not. If you want to reignite the debate and try for a change in consensus, please raise the issue again on Talk:Cheltenham. Hope that helps. --kingboyk 12:29, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since you're new and keen, I don't suppose you'd be interested in turning the above link blue would you? :) If you created a stub, I'm happy to mop up behind and sort out redirects and categorisation. --kingboyk 12:54, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Replied at user's talk page.

Agreed that it's a beautiful village: I live in nearby Aylesbury. Feel free to improve the Cheddington article at any time! -- Francs2000 07:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion of Richard Henry Cornwall-Legh, 6th Baron Grey of Codnor

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Richard Henry Cornwall-Legh, 6th Baron Grey of Codnor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. If you want to create the plural of a link, you can simply append -s or -es after closing the square brackets. For example:

It can be simpler than creating redirects. Cheers. -- Skarl 21:09, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
